Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Emberbrand has hidden a stone at the bottom of the Jagged Falls. We'll swim to find it, and the first cat to find it will win. She has no issue with the cold water," he assured her, "only the stone. She doubts it exists."
Wintrystar thought over the task, glanced at the falls before her and spoke her decision. "Rowanstrike, retrieve Roseshade." Her eyes went back to the challenger, "if this stone was placed by another, I see no problems with the challenge itself. It appears fair to me. Our Witch will complete the challenge set before her."
Against he's better judgement, but at the command of his Sovereign, Rowanstriek left to find the Witch in question. Part of hi wished Wintrystar would have issued a different challenge, but knew she would not. She was more than likely offended that it was nearing midday and the challenge wasn't completed and all because the Witch refused the challenge. It was a stupid challenge in the tom's eyes, and yet the Sovereign thought it fair. If he could, he' have proposed a new challenge, but knew the other warrior wouldn't have it and begin a fight infront of the Sovereign regarding it.

Roseshade had already left the leader and Robinring far behind, leaving camp to get fresh air into her lungs and calm her frayed nerves believing that the matter had been settled. The reoccurring nightmare she had since coming to WinterClan, fresh on her mind, as she tried to push it away.
Roseshade sat on the edge of the icy river, only in this nightmare she was nothing more than a kit. She had been playing with a brightly colored red rose in the snow, when she batted it to hard sending into into the river. At first the rose floated along the surface, but as the water sloshed onto the delicate flower it was dragged downwards sinking into the dark depths below the surface. The currents slammed it from stone to ice, ripping it apart piece by until it was hardly recognizable, but then it was no longer the rose that was fighting against the river but her. The all to painful sensation of icy water flooding into her lungs as she gasped for air, the impact of being slammed into boulders, the desperation of fighting her way to the surface only to meet with a solid sheet of ice. Slamming her paws upwards as the faces of her family stared down a her from up above, as ghostly white paws gripped her pelt with their claws and dragged her downwards. Down, and down, until she could see nothing. Feel nothing.
Roseshade shook her head, forcing herself to take several deep breathes having not realized that she had been holding it. It was just a nightmare, at least that what she had always believe. She had almost drowned as a kit, so it was only natural for one's mind to make up such things while you were sleeping. Only information she had gathered since then made it all the more frightening. How the river that ran through the territory had once been called the swallowing river, known for taking the lives of those that were unfortunate enough to fall into it. The ghostly paws she thought she had imagined, reminiscent of the white cats that WinterClan used to believe in so strongly. Of course saying so in recent times would be considered blasphemy, so she had kept her nightmares a closely guarded secret only speaking of it with her sister.
Rowanstrike didn't need to go far before coming up on Roseshade. Seeing the puzzled she-cat, he sighed and called out. "Roseshade." His pace had bene that of a job, one that'd mostly been used to clear his mind and try and think of a way out of this for Roseshade, but so far he thought of nothing. How was she to get out of this mess? Out of marrying that...that brat! Hurrying to her side, he couldn't bring himself to look at her, knowing all he was bringing was bad news. "Wintrystar made a decision on your challenge."

"Then she can and come and tell me the decision herself" she replied coldly, and perhaps a bit unfairly to the tom that had only been trying to help. It wasn't that she didn't recognize that, but simply her delaying the inevitable while she thought over what to do next. She turned away from Rowanstrike careful to compose herself before he could see the expression on her face "I will not participate in this challenge"
"Trust me, I don't like playing messenger either, especially for this. I don't agree with he challenge, but I can't exactly oppose the Sovereign either. She stated to come get you, so that's what I'm doing. Just know, if I could, I'd take the challenge on for you, would even ask Wintrystar for the honor myself." He hoped that she understood that he didn't agree with this challenge, at all. It was dangerous, especially for the idea of taking the only Witch's paw in marriage. And he definitely didn't understand why Wintrstar allowed the challenge but he couldn't protest against her word. Rowanstrike circled around her so he could look her in the eyes. "Maybe...maybe with your position you can convince her that it shouldn't happen? Surely she must listen to you, you're the Witch a direct connection to the Gods!" Maybe the Gods would intervene, how funny would that be. Even Wintrystar couldn't tell them no.

"Even if the gods sent me a sign this very moment she wouldn't believe" she replied flatly "I am a witch with no training, a healer with no knowledge of healing, interpreter of the gods with no mentor to guide me. All she would see is excuses" Roseshade wasn't a fool, and her options were becoming narrower and narrower with each passing moment. Part of her thought about even just up and leaving, she had a far enough of a head start and Rowanstrike wouldn't have stood in her way. However, even if she left now it was her family that would pay the price
"Tell them that I will meet them at the waterfall"
No she would not do this challenge, even at WIntrystars insistence, the way out was quite simple. She would have to prove that he was cheating, that the stone in question didn't exist. Without waiting she took off, waiting near the water for WIntrystar and Robinring to arrive
Rowanstrike didn't answer as he watched her walk away. He had no words of condolences and nothing he could give to help her. The tom had already tried offering himself in her place, a representative, but that had bene struck down fairly quickly. So, with nothing else to do but relay her message, the tom began his trek back to where he'd left the other two. Once there, he told them what Roseshade had decided and waited their words.
Robinring considered her words in silence. His face was stoic as ever, but he nodded with finality. "Then I'll head there right away," he decided. Turning to the leader, he dipped his head and asked, "Wintrystar, will you accompany me?"
Wintrystar nodded, motioning for the tom to lead the way as she joined the parade of cats who'd come to watch. She was a mere spectator now, her decisions made. Only one thing would change her mind at this point and she wasn't sure the Gods would interfere in something as simple as the challenges of the day.
Robinring took the lead without hesitation, and the group found their way to the falls.
They arrived to find Roseshade was already there, perched by the water in silence. His careful gaze studied her as he approached and sat down at her side, glanced at the dark, glassy surface of the water. It was too deep, dark, and clouded to see the bottom, but he knew his stone must be down there, among the reeds and fish.

"Yes" she replied with an air of confidence that no cat in her position had the right to hold "I will accept your challenge" though she had placed distance between herself and the water's edge. Refusing to even look down into it's depths "I am confident that there is no stone in the bottom of that river, so I have nothing to fear from accepting. You can dive in the water until your heart is content, but you won't be able to find it. For even if the stone was real, the swift waters of that water swallow the things that enter into it into it's depths or sweep them downstream"
She paused allowing her words to sink "If your intentions are pure and what you have said is true, then you now have your chance to prove that my doubts have been unfounded. You may enter into the water and retrieve the stone before the sun sets and I will honor your marriage request, but should you fail to retrieve it in time..." her lip curled up slightly "Then you will admit to your treachery before the clan, and never speak of marriage to me or any other she-cat again"
"OH MY GOSH! I'm so sorry I'm late! What did I miss?!"
Brindlemist bounded toward the assembled cats right after she heart Roseshade say 'and never speak of marriage to me or any other she-cat again.' She knew that this event was a challenge so it wasn't too difficult to put two and two together: Robinring had challenged her sister to be his mate. It made Brindlemist just melt at the thought of Roseshade finding someone to love, but she could tell her her sister's tone that it was not quite so mutual.
"Roseshade! Don't condemn the poor guy to a life of loneliness if he loses whatever bet he's just made," She said sternly, booping her sister lightly atop her head with his paw, "Why don't you just leave it at he has to leave you alone forever? Also, what exactly is this challenge again?"
Robinring did not answer her; instead, he turned to Brindlemist with interest. Far more open and energetic than her sister, he had not seen most of her own challenge, but now he considered he should have attended. She was easier to read than Roseshade, and she may hold some useful insight to her strange behavior.
“I appreciate the defense,” he responded, dipping his head to her, “but I’ve offered a difficult challenge, it’s only her right to do the same.” His critical eyes turned to Roseshade, studying her. She had given in, but why? He tracked through her words slowly until he identified the catch.
“I can dive in, but you won’t.” That was what he had missed. Robinring’s eyes narrowed.

Roseshade's glare never faltered, even as he sister appeared at her side begging her not to condemn that cat that stood before her to a rather lonely life "Brindlemist" she replied slowly, taking time with every word that she spoke "You should step aside and allow me to handle this" she clipped the end of her sentence, stepping forward to meet Robinring head on
"Correct" so he had managed to see through her counter, not that it truly mattered if he knew the truth or not. Either way, she wasn't going into the water "If you intentions are truly to become mate, than this shouldn't be an issue for you" there was a mischievous glint in her eyes
His pale blue gaze held hers as he reflected on the offer in silence. His eyes gave nothing away, only the silent ticking of cogs behind his eyes, a quiet whirring of machinery as he debated his options. Robinring wanted more from her. She had disappointed him and she continued to let him down, to refuse his challenge, and he wanted to see her take on this challenge.
But in the end, he had other priorities to consider. He would see her truth in time.
His eyes shifted sideways to the leader and he lifted his head over Roseshade's to look at Wintrystar questioningly.
"I'm willing to accept this change to the challenge," he relented, "unless you believe it goes against the spirit of these challenges. It is not a challenge if I am the only one fighting."
Wintrystar nodded her head at what had unfolded before her. "These seem like reasonable wagers, but Roseshade know you are the one being challenged, I do not see why you shouldn't also be participating in the challenge or a challenge of some sort. He is your challenger, why is it not yourself diving in to find the stone? If you come up victorious then you can have the option of saying no, otherwise, I see not finding the stone as a failure. Does this not sound like a better challenge? Considering who the challenger is and who is being challenged?" Her eyes were narrowed in thought, unable to find why the one who'd started the challenge in the first place was now the only one competing in his own challenge. "I may propose a time limit. If the stone is not found by nightfall then the challenge is ended." She tossed her tail around her paws, confused by the change in challenge but she shrugged as she spoke further. "But by all means ignore my suggestion and go about your challenge as you see fit."

Roseshade’s eyes narrowed, her tail swishing from one side to the other. Her mask of calm beginning to show it’s cracks “I refuse” she tilted her head up and rose to her paws
“I will not dive for the stone” the was no quiver In her voice, for of that she was certain. this is simply something she would not do even if her leader demanded it of her. The dream of the drowning rose still at the forefront of mind. “Wintrystar do what you must, but I will not dive and I will not acknowledge Robinring as my mate even if I am forced to marry” her gaze shifted to him, or rather pierced through him “I had higher expectations of you Robinwing. A mate should care for intended. You have lost what respect I had for you”she spat at his feet, her lip turned up into a snarl
“I can’t stop you from doing this, and I shouldn’t have to if you were doing this for the right reasons. One thing has been made crystal clear through your actions today, it is not me that you seek but status and power. I may not be able to stop this challenge, but I can and will make sure that you don’t get an ounce of what you are seeking”there was a much darker threat looming below the surface of her words
