"Grumpykit, Firetooth is going to take a look at your eyes now. Try and hold as still as you can, I know they are hurting you, but he is going to make you all better" Grumpykit had been getting more and more out of control, lashing out at everyone around him. She couldn't blame him, not really. He was nearly in constant pain and all she had been able to do so far was give him some pain relieving herbs and try and keep his siblings from bothering him to much. She moved her paws around his head to help hold them still so that Firetooth could get a better look at the way his eyelashes curled inwards.
"No," Grumpykit snarled, jerking violently away from his mother's grasp. He wrenched free and jumped away, his short fur spiking as he glared at them through eyes wide-stretched to keep his eyelashes at bay. "I'm fine." The small tom was insistent, though his inflamed gaze suggested otherwise, and he knew he cried out in his sleep. But it didn't matter. His eyes might hurt a little bit, but he wasn't going to let his stranger look at them. The orange cat had looked at his siblings too, and none of them had gotten any better.
Firetooth sat patiently in the entrance of the Nursery, his ginger tailed curled around his paws as he listened to the Queen and kit argue back and forth. Of Jetfire's kits, the Medicine Cat had the least amount of interaction with Grumpykit, who seemed to be constantly napping or sulking by himself. He certainly lived up to his name at least; grumpy and stubborn, a cat after his own heart. "Persuasion alone isn't going to convince him," he casually remarked to Jetfire. When he had been a bitter young apprentice, a warrior would have better luck pulling out his whiskers than getting him to do something he didn't want to. Slowly rising to his paws, he strided across the den until he was towering over Grumpykit. "Alright, we know that you're not fine - you're not that good of a liar. So what seems to be the issue? The sooner I take a look at your eyes, the sooner I can figure out a solution that'll make them hurt less. What'll it take, Grumpykit? Give me your best offer."

After there time in SunClan Jetfire had always taken a much more gentle approach to parenting. Part of it was just her personality and the way her mother had interreacted with her when she was a kit, but it was also because of the guilt that still ate away at her. Knowing that their problems were her fault, and the fact that they had already been though to much. However, she didn't say anything as Firetooth tried a different approach... Grumpykit needed his eyes looked at, and if Firetooth thought he could get through to Grumpykit than it was worth a shot.
Grumpykit glared at the medicine cat as he towered over him, and his claws sank into the ground. Were they trying to scare him into behaving? It wasn't fair that they got to be so big and strong and he had to remain tiny. He was growing fast, but not fast enough. He fluffed up his fur as he met Firetooth's eyes with a critical look.
"I don't want anything from you," he resolved, but his voice was a little softer now. He didn't trust the strange tom, not by a longshot, but Firetooth's approach calmed him. His eyes opened wider as he evaluated the offer, enough Firetooth could get a better look, though it would be difficult to diagnose anything without a closer examination. At least he was being treated like a mature cat now, as a warrior, instead of a baby like his siblings.
Firetooth stared down the stubborn kit, who's eyes had opened just wide enough for the Medicine Cat to note that the problem definitely wasn't the pupil or iris...Grumpykit's eyes were red and bloodshot, but there wasn't any damage to the eye itself. Maybe the eyelids? He'd need a closer look for that, though. "Listen, I need to look at your eyes one way or another. It'll take a minute tops, I just want to find the cause of the soreness. You don't even need to eat any nasty herbs or whatever today, and you can go back to sleep right after I finish looking. Heck, I'll even throw in a piece of pray of your choosing when you wake up to sweeten the deal. Is that fair?"

Jetfire nodded but stayed quiet as the medicine cat talked to her son, he seemed to have this under control and she didnt want to ruin his progress by saying anything that would upset Grumpykit and further. Cleaver
"I don't want anything from you," Grumpykit spit, his hackles rising as he took a step back from the medicine cat. His head snapped away and he stared off to the side so the adults couldn't see his eyes well. "Just leave me alone!"
Okay...the Medicine Cat was starting to run out of ideas. How stubborn was this kit? Had he been this unreasonable as a kit? How in Starclan's name had Breezestep and Creekghost ever put up with him?! Taking a breath to calm himself, he considered his options. Firetooth could always just pin Grumpykit down and check his eyes by force, but that would probably result in the kit never trusting him again. Maybe...he should try giving him what he wanted instead? "...okay. You want to be left alone so you can nap? Okay, I'll leave you be then." He took a few steps backward, putting space between him and Grumpykit. "I can't make you do anything that you don't want to do, so I won't. Just know that I'm here if your eye pain ever gets too bad to handle. I want to help you, Grumpykit, but only when you want the help that I'm offering."
