Pinepaw's training thread hals. It'll be the night after the ceremonies. Why Bloodystar would trust him with an apprentice he didn't know. Nightfury had just initiated a few moments prior, and now he supposed to teach the ways of SunClan or something like that. He couldn't speak to the ways of SunClan too much. He kind just went with the flow there when he wanted to, but he understand the ways of his real ancestors. Those ways helped him survive, and they would help Pinepaw survive as well. He told Pinepaw to get ready for his training the following day, but that was a lie.
As the moon rose into the sky the pitch black tom entered the apprentice's den without a sound. It didn't take him long to locate the other tom's grey and white tabby coat. He stood over him for a moment, and in quick motion he was on top of the apprentice and pressing his paws into the apprentice's neck. Not striking, but suffocating. Nightfury started his own training this way. His mentor made him pass out, but Nightfury wasn't sure if he'd go that far this time.

He almost had it, but the mouse skittered out of his grasp before dashing back into the undergrowth. Pinepaw went to huff out a breath, but found he couldn't. He couldn't breathe was so ever. Painc crept into his mind and the young apprentice was shaken out of his dream, his eyes blinking open rapidly. Above him he could make out the dark shadow of a tom and felt the press of a paw against his throat, cutting off his air supply. Fear and recognition jolted through him and he began to twist his body around violently as he tried to escaped his newly named mentor Nightfury. Pinepaw prayed that this wasn't the end. He would have never expected to die before his first full day as an apprentice or murdered by his own mentor none the less! Claws came out and began to scratched at the paw that continued to cut off his oxygen, hoping it would be enough to force Nightfury to remove it from the apprentice's neck.
Nightfury cold blue optics betrayed no emotion as he kept up the pressure on the young tom's throat. Some cats had turned their head to see what was going on, and they were in a state of shock. It only took a warning glare for them to shrink back into their nests. He returned his gaze to the cat below him. His apprentice's claws hurt, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. The younger cat had such poor leverage that he knew the wounds would take no time at all to heal. The only thing it did succeed in was getting Nightfury black blood on Pinepaw's neck fur. He unsheathed his claws and dug them into the young tom's neck and spoke softly. "Fight harder. Life or death."

Pinepaw’s eyes widened as he realized that Nightfury was not going to let go. The apprentice felt the tips of claws digging into his neck and Pinepaw twisted his body from side to side as he tried to wriggle out of the hold. When it failed, a hiss of frustration tinged with fear escaped him. Trying to change tactics, Pinepaw stretched his hind legs and began racking them at Nightfury’s underbelly. His muscles bunched together as he put forth all his strength into his attack. Sending a prayer, Pinepaw hoped dearly that this would work or someone would step in the least.
He chuckled as the tom finally tried pounding at his underside. He learned fast, but that wasn't the point of this lesson. Not at all. Instead of letting go, he put more of his weight on the tom's neck and dug his claws in deeper. With his hind legs he caught one of his strikes and pinned it to the ground. Nightfury was by no means a particularly big cat, but he still had plenty of size advantage over the new apprentice. This wouldn't be so easy the day of his warrior ceremony. Again, the tom's icy blue eyes stared down at the apprentice. "Fight harder. Life or death." He curled his claws into the tom's neck, this time puncturing skin and drawing blood. "Choose."

Pinepaw bared his teeth in frustration, fear shooting through him as he felt the claws dig deeper onto his neck. With one of his back limbs pinned down by the larger tom, the apprentice’s struggles were greatly reduced. Pinepaw violently thrashed in Nightfury’s hold, his one free hind leg kicking out at the other tom’s leg that pinned his rear limb, trying in vain to get it free. In a last ditch effort, Pinepaw lashed out with his front claws as he aimed for Nightfury’s face. If he could temporarily blind his mentor, he might stand a better chance of getting away and surviving. Black crowded around the edge of his vision and Pinpaw knew it would not be long before he lost consciousness. He lashed out with his front claws extended with all his might.
This is what he wanted to see. A small smile crept onto Nightfury's face as he started thrashing about. Most of them were in vain, but the tom did draw back his head when the first swipe went for his face. Better, even better. He kept pressure on the young tom's neck for a few moments longer before he sheathed his claws and let go. His icy eyes stared the apprentice down for another second before they turned away. "Good." He turned his back on the apprentice and started walking out of the den. "Come." The tom looked down to his paws, and they were a bloody mess. He didn't mind though. It had to coaxed out of him, but the apprentice put up a fight.

Pinepaw wasted no time scrambling to his feet in fear that if he did not, there would be a chance he would be pinned down again. The apprentice hunched over as he gasped for air, relishing in the feel of oxygen entering his lungs once more. Pinepaw keep his claws unsheathed and tensed his shoulders in preparation for another unsuspecting attack as he warily inched out of the den after his mentor. Blood dripped off the tips of his claws, but the apprentice did not notice as his wide eyes remained fixed on the back of his mentor. "What was that for? You could have kill me!" His voice was strained and hoarse, his throat scratchy from the abuse it suffered. He gave a small wince as he felt a brief stab of pain when he spoke.
The tom's frantic scrambling to find his paws amused his mentor. Clearly, if Nightfury wanted him dead then Pinepaw would be. Pinepaw had nothing left to fear but what he made in his head. Nightfury shook his head. "Learning. Fighting. Death. Life. Choices." He paused. "Unteachable things." He whirled around and swiped the air right in front of Pinepaw. "From Toxicity. Train harsh. Life or death. Like yours." His eyes held no malice, only curiosity as he watched the tom. "Learn. Live. Slack. Die."

Pinepaw’s fur stood on end as he cautiously trailed behind his mentor, taking in his sinister and clipped words. Life and death? He was only an apprentice for Starclan’s sake! Also, Pinepaw thought that killing was only an absolute last resort and in self-defense. A cool shiver ran down his spine as he started to grasp at the method Nightfury was using to train him. Then, the warrior was towering over him in a flash as he claws came swinging down towards Pinepaw’s face. With a startled hiss, the apprentice leaped backwards and tucked himself into a defensive stance in case Nightfury struck again. “You’re insane!” The tom snarled, slitted eyes glaring at the warrior.
He cocked his head to the side and chuckled. Him, insane? Probably. But he survived everything the world threw at him. "I live. Respect that. Respect me. Or die." He shrugged. "Your choice." If the apprentice did not want to fight, then Nightfury had no reason to train him. The dark tom turned around again and walked out of the camp. "Come." He had plenty planned for tonight. The most important lessons had to be taught early, so there was not a moment to waste. The territory was eerily quiet as they left the camp. They were perhaps the only cats awake, and that's how Nightfury wanted it. Some would not like his methods. Fewer would encourage them.
He traveled with Pinepaw in silence, and before long the pair arrived on the rogue border to the north. Nightfury signaled his apprentice with his tail to head towards an overgrown tree on the other side. As they neared it, the muffled sounds of a struggling cat could be heard. Nightfury pushed aside some of the grown, and inside of all of it was a ginger tabby bound to the tree with vines. Nightfury looked back to his apprentice and grinned. This was his gift to him. "Happy apprenticeship..."
