Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(I'm thinking that this herbal remedy helps Bravekit the most! That way it helps explain how Duskslayer's able to leave his sons side more often, but if you have another idea let me know! ^-^) Honeystorm
"So, do you... Feel better?" Duskslayer asked cautiously. Mountainsound had been training him intensely about healing, he put every piece of knowledge he could into tending to his son. So far, despite being priest promise all he had done since coming to SunClan was stay at his sons side. He never seemed bitter about spending time with Bravekit, never let his son see the frustration when a medicine didn't work. Most of all he never let Bravekit see his despair after every failed attempt. This time though this was a new mixture with a new herb added in, hopefully this would be the sun protection Bravekit needed to thrive.
"Of course he feels better, every medicine gets better and better, right Bravekit?" Faithkit said encouragingly. Faithkit also stayed at Bravekit's side the entire time. No matter how weird the medicine on him smelled or how much the other kits teased him she always made sure she was there for him. Especially sneaking him tasty foods that her dad didn't want to give him because it might "get in the way of the herbs effects," but her brother needed something sweet in his life!

Bravekit was curled in his little nest, piled up with blankets to keep the hairless tomkit warm and comfortable. He licked away the taste of the herbs away, scrunching his nose as he wriggled around slightly, waiting to feel any effects of the herbs.
For a long few moments, nothing much happened, though the tomkit slowly, unsteadily, pulled himself from the nest. He had to test it out, right? What he didn't realize was that his sickly pallor seemed to fade a bit as he sat down, slowly stretching his weak limbs and rubbing his face. Each new herb was different. Some didn't seem to help at all, others had side effects that ended up hindering him more than they helped. Some were ingested, some slathered over his body to try and heal it, bring fur back or at the least protect him from the sun itself.
He took a few experimental steps, stumbling over his own paws and lying there for a long moment, staring up at the ceiling with amber eyes. Then Damek giggled. Then he got to his paws, this time with more certainty, and flashed Duskslayer a smile. Maybe it was just the herbs effects. He walked to the entrance of the den, blinking at the sunlight, and then stepped out, waiting for that familiar burning feeling across his back. It was there. But far more mild than he expected it to be, and he rubbed his eyes again, always unused to the brightness of the world around him considering how little time he spent in any sort of direct sunlight.
The hairless kit turned his head to look at his sister, eyes sparkling. "It better than the other ones." He agreed.
It was moments like these where he had to be stronger than who he was capable of being. He wanted to cry for his son, to pity him, to guilt over the fact that he had chosen such a harmful place to grow up. But that wasn't who his son needed in his life so he needed to be someone better who could teach him to laugh at himself. Enjoy the fun moments, not focus on the past awful memories. In the Regime he had spent a lot of time asking the guiders why this happened. That question of why tore him up more than anything else and at some point he had to start asking and start acting. He was going to torture himself if he kept wondering instead of moving on. For a while moving on felt impossible like he was being dragged over barbed wire, it took something from him, but in this moment everything flooded back. All the days and sleepless hours he drained into finding anything that could normalize his sons life had been worth it. Not just because it worked, but he couldn't remember the last time he saw Damek smile.
Duskslayer's eyes teared up, "I'm so glad, more than you'll ever know."
"Can we go and play outside now?" Faithkit asked.
"Not until the sun goes down," Duskslayer said. He always let his kits stay up later than most, "Come back inside, that's enough testing it out. We can go down to the meadows once the sunsets."
Bravekit turned, only to see his father tearing up, and came inside when called, slowly leaning up onto his hind legs to wipe away Dusky's tears gently with his forepaws, concern in his eyes. "Don't be sad." He told his father, not even seeming to notice the miracle that was him supporting himself only on his hind legs, even if he was only able to balance thanks to his front paws on the Promised's face.
"Okay," Duskslayer said, smiling through the salty tears as he swallowed back the lump in his throat, "We'll be happy," He promised.
"What do you want to play today my brave son?" He asked.
"Oh, but I wanted to play den out in the fields tonight," Faithkit chimed in.
"Tonight is Bravekit's night to decide, but tomorrow it can be your turn again," Duskslayer promised her, his paws gently stroking the side of his daughters cheek.

Bravekit grinned at his father, happy that he would be happy. "I want to explore." He decided instantly. There were some things he could play from inside a den, or concentrated in a smaller area, but it wasn't anywhere near like his siblings. He couldn't just walk wherever he wanted, check under every stone and peek around roots. At best he could ride on the back of someone older than him, and view the world that way. That wasn't really living though, and limited him to wherever the older cats decided to go.
Duskslayer bent down to eye level to both Bravekit and Faithkit, "Alright, Bravekit's going to lead the way on this exploration. We can explore wherever he wants."
Faithkit waddled over to Bravekit's side, "We can go wherever our legs take us, at night! No other kits get to be out at night."
