The moon had only just risen, yet Cinderwraith had already re-made her nest, eaten breakfast, and offered her morning prayers to Selene. Her wispy black and white pelt was groomed to perfection, yet there was a certain careless grace that she carried herself with that gave the impression that she didn't care what others thought of her appearance at all.
The first sparkles of stars crested the horizon, receiving a warm smile from Cinderwraith as she went about her duties. She waved her tail in greeting when she caught sight of a kithood friend, but was too distracted to notice the looming tom in front of her. With a muffled whimper, she stumbled backwards after colliding with him, her nose and pride smarting. Closer to apprentice-sized than warrior, she was easily knocked back, though she didn't think there was any malice in the tom's eyes. "Sorry..." she mewed, blinking the instinctual tears from her eyes. Selene, but hitting your nose hurt!
Offering him a watery smile, she straightened up and tried to ignore how silly she must look. "I totally didn't see you at all," she mewed, her mouth running away with her again. "You're okay, though, right? I mean, you have to be, you're about as big as a tree!" She swept her tail towards him as if showing him proof. Her nerves always turned her into a chatter-box, no matter how embarrassing it ended up for her.
Someday his lack of sleep was going to kill him. However, on this day, it simply led to him almost knocking out one of his clanmates. Absently rubbing at the spot where someone bumped into him, Scorch blinked and turned his amber gaze to the small she-cat babbling before him. He took a moment to take in the gleam of her fur, the teary eyes, and speckled pelt - eventually putting together that she was Cinderwraith. The fur along his spine threatened to rise, and he quickly turned what would've been a grimace into a toothy grin instead.
"Even the greatest trees can be felled by the smallest creatures. I should count my... blessings that I'm still standing." Scorch purred in amusement. Cinderwraith. She was one of the intensely devout, always sure to do her morning and evening prayers, and he was sure he caught her chirping at nothing but shades before. In all truth, despite her unassuming appearance, she was one of his clan-mates that he usually tried to avoid at all costs. I really must be out of it to have run into her, he mused internally. The tall tom forced himself to stop rubbing at the spot she bumped into him, despite feeling like he had something terrible clinging to his pelt.
"It seems like you're in a bit of a rush so early in the evening," he idly rumbled, blinking away his discomfort and assuming his typical smirk. She was just another clan-mate, someone he should be able to send off after a few lines of pleasantries for sure.

Cinderwraith missed the fur rising along his spine and only caught the toothy grin, returning it with a smaller one of her own. Relieved he didn't seem angry or harmed, she gave a breathy laugh. "Selene bless us, that could have ended badly!" She watched him rubbing at his shoulder and worried to herself she might have hurt him worse than she had first thought, but not wanting to harm his pride kept quiet.
"I'm just eager to get moving tonight," she explained, shifting from paw to paw as though standing still too long was uncomfortable to her. "I think Leviathan wanted me to find someone else and take the moonrise patrol, actually. You don't seem busy; would you please come with me?" She tilted her head to the side as if considering him carefully for the first time. "Unless you need to see the medicine cat for something?" She hadn't missed his faint grimace of discomfort and hoped it wasn't anything serious.
“No - I’m perfectly fine,” Scorch started, and after his sleep-deprived brain couldn’t find a good excuse to decline, he continued, “Any reason to get out of camp is fine by me. Do you want to lead the way?” He mustered a musing smile and swept his tail for Cinderwraith to take the lead. He made a concerted effort to appear as he usually did - relaxed and assured of himself, but not enough to stand out any more than his tall figure already made him. He mentally scolded himself for allowing his discomfort to be obvious enough for his clan-mate to notice, and he was quietly worried about how this patrol would go if he was already slipping up.

"Gladly," purred Cinderwraith, flicking her tail as she stepped forwards. Her form was lithe and muscled from numerous patrols through their forests during her life. Each tree, stone, pine needle...they were gifts from Selene she showed her respect. "You getting sick of camp too?" she asked with an empathetic smile, "I am too. Now that the weather is warming, I'm looking for any reason I can find to get out and among the trees." She looked at the moon as it started its slow ascent and felt peace settle within her. Slowing down so she fell into step next to Scorch, she glanced sideways at him. "You're new, right? Or have I just never paid enough attention to anything?" She laughed at her own lack of observance, knowing it was something she'd been chastised for since kithood.
