(so, my new moonclan medicine cat, yuki-oona / spectreslight is not very knowledgeable about herbs. she never really got a chance to learn. i was thinking it'd be neat if another mc advised her and trained her a bit. i could do funk, but figured it'd be more fun to not rp with myself)
---
She had no idea why she was even walking here. She didn't believe, having thrown them away for something else. Something better. Still, Yuki-Oona was in a bind. Reaper had suggested going to another medicine cat to learn, since neither of them were very experienced. But then it never happened. Now, her paws traced the path up to the Moon Creek. It was the dead of the night, the time when she felt most comfortable. She needed to learn somehow, to take care of her clan. Of Selene's clan. For as much as her paws shook, she kept walking. There was no way anyone would be up here, that's what she figured. Yuki knew flowers; she knew chamomile calmed cats, that tansy can make you miscarry, that roses were an overdone gift but no one could deny them. It wasn't enough. So when she got to the top, she couldn't help but be surprised.
Mistyrose raised her head from the creek, she was unmistakable, the half blue grey, half peach golden ex medicine cat, ex murderer of WinterClan turned SunClan warrior. Her story was legendary in the MountainClans and taboo in all other lands. Her story had few secrets as many felt they knew her before ever meeting her. She gave birth to countless litters to boost the troops of WinterClan all while maintaining her career as a medicine cat. She talked back to the old Gods of WinterClan and was said to be the driving force that held them back from entering the clan again. When leaders left without any trace of a deputy she was there was a temporary leader during hardships. If there was any cat that could fly by life unbothered and not tethered down by emotions and sacrifice it was her. So it was no surprise that despite being a SunClan warrior she still actively returned to MoonCreek.
"Are you a medicine cat?" Mistyrose asked. Her voice was unexpected, very monotone with little inflection, it was seductive, but even that was a stretch given how dry her voice naturally or maybe unnaturally came off. The way she looked at Yuki-Oona felt wrong, like she didn't look at her like a person, but this felt natural. Like she had looked at thousands of people the same way before by the way she so easily stared unblinking at first at the medicine cat. "I'm Mistyrose," She introduced herself before standing up, "And I won't disturb you if you need the space for guidance."

Even Yuki knew of Mistyrose. Having been born in Winterclan let her be privy to that kind of information. Still, she never seemed real until she was sitting right in front of her. More like a legend, even during her vague memories of early kithood when she would see Mistyrose helping her mom. She hadn't changed a single bit, other than that Sunclan smell dripping off of her. But Yuki wasn't one to drop her guard so easily. Holding her head high, she walked a practiced gait, getting closer to the creek but not to Misty herself. Was she really at the point where she needed to ask her for help? But this was as good of an opportunity as she could hope for.
"Yes. I'm Yuki. Medicine cat for Moonclan." She held her tone firmly yet lightly. Biting her cheek when she dipped her head to Misty briefly, she continued. "And this is the only place I could think to come for guidance. My mentor died before getting a chance to teach me much, so I'm stuck." She looked old for an apprentice, a little too well spoken for someone in such distress. But it wasn't like she was lying.
"Ah yes, that is unfortunate, when I left for WinterClan I left them with a medicine cat apprentice, Cinnamonswirl. He was trained enough, but he was killed by a predator so unfortunately the Witches of WinterClan were never fully trained. They lack their special ability of being empathists because they didn't have another witch teach them. I was the first witch of my kind and I suppose now technically I'm the last so I sympathize with you on some level," Mistyrose said, but she sounded dishonest from how uncaring her voice came off, but unfortunately that was just how her voice always sounded. Her blue grey tail traced over the frosted earth before looking Yuki in the eyes. Mistyrose's eyes were extraordinary, deep haunting sapphires in one eye and the other was a brighter blue, more turquoise with specks of gold, "If you want me to teach you how to be a medicine cat just ask, don't fish for pity."

The stories sounded familiar. Ones she had blocked from her memory ages ago. It all sounded right, and now Winterclan was without a suitable teacher. Not that she was gonna run back there anytime. It became clear to Yuki there was no favor to be asked here. No pleading, no puppy dog eyes that she couldn't make without gagging anyway. There was also no judgment. In a way, it calmed her down. Whether she said yes or no was up to Mistyrose, and the pressure got to melt off her shoulders like snow. "Very well then." Yuki took a breath, closing both sky blue eyes briefly before meeting her gaze, "Mistyrose, would you please teach me how to be a medicine cat?" There was little for Misty to get out of this, so she should at least be polite. Maybe the chance to lift her own burden. Her gaze wavered, having a hard time holding the eye contact. She didn't let herself budge though.
"Yeah sure, what do you want to know first? Basics?" Mistyrose asked casually as she went into a lying position, "I'm only able to help you here, Littlestar is my best friend and she refuses to let me sleepover in other clans. Which means I can come to your clan and help you, but end of the day I'm going home."

Yuki tried not to show the relief that Mistyrose agreed, avoiding anything that would make her disagree. She couldn't thank Selene out loud, but the sentiment was sent. She'd have to go to Abaddon to try and get a suitable meal for the Moon Goddess. Though where to begin, that was a good question. She wasn't really sure, thinking about it too hard to not shudder at the name Littlestar. Sunclan. What would they think of Misty helping the Moonclan Medium? Nothing good, no doubt. But she felt she didn't need to worry for now. After all, it was Mistyrose, a legend in her own right.
"Basics would be nice. Mainly on how to handle certain emergencies, like how to help someone with excessive bleeding or that swallowed deathberries." Granted, the emergencies differed from clan to clan. Though, as of late, she's had to pull a lot of thorns out of cat's paws and patch up scrapes. It was only a matter of time before things got worse. "And I understand. I'd appreciate even sparing visits." Going to Sunclan would be a death sentence for her. At least in Moonclan, they could meet in secret. Or go somewhere more neutral.
"One thing I hear that helps is being comforting, but I only know how to be matter of fact, so unfortunately I cannot teach you that. But to stop bleeding you need large amounts of cobwebs to keep it in, however I do a painful procedure called stitching. This involves cleansing your claws and pine needles. If the patient is bleeding out and cobwebs are not going to hold the blood in I will pierce the skin with holes and thread pine needles into the holes. This is painful and has a lot of trial and error, I try my best to make sure the patient is as numbed as possible so they won't go into shock. However you are in MoonClan so you might need to use another plant than pine needles if none are thick and long enough. Stitching has saved many cats lives though, but you might want to practice on prey as it takes a steady hand and good eye coordination. You should always be standing when stitching to get a birds eye view and the patient should be elevated to help you out. Are you memorizing this? That's another thing if you have poor memory you will do a poor job as a medicine cat because that's all much of it is," Mistyrose said. It didn't help that Mistyrose's voice was monotone, usually there were inflections to indicate what information was very important to remember, but without any tone in her voice it was up to Yuki to guess.

Yuki listened though. She listened hard. It was hard to follow though, but her memory was at least pretty good. The more Misty went on, the more she realized that this distance wouldn't help. When she finished, Yuki hopped over the creek and approached Misty. Still keeping her distance, she nodded. "Is there any particular mixture you use to clean your claws before this? And let's say I have a patient with a gash like this." As she spoke, she dragged her paw in the grass, making the vague appearance of a thin oval with the pressed down grass. "Do you take the pine needles or alternative, and weave them like this?" Yuki dragged her paw over the oval, making a zig zag pattern over it. She spaced out each stitch to where it was clear each stitch was it's own needle. "How do you make sure the needles don't fall out of the holes though?"
"Unfortunately for me, no, the mountains were too cold for any cleansing supplies to last, I could only extra supplies such as yarrow to decrease likelihood of me infecting them. However, since moving I can tell other clans have access to far more herbs and sensible water temperatures. Is there any stream you can think of that you can go to in summer or winter. Oh, excuse me, in... N- greenleaf or leeafbare that has clean, typically unused water supplies?" Mistyrose asked. Since moving it felt so odd that all the other clans used leaf terms for weather.
"As for the stitching I typically would put mounds of sap at the ends of the pin needles to hold it in place. We also had snow so this help immensely with numbing patients for this procedure."

(this disinfection talk is hitting too close. i had to use a water and pine sol mix to disinfect my phone and stuff when I came back from the store)
Yuki nodded. It was a silly question now that she remembered. A bit too used to the higher temperatures down here compared to Winterclan. "You can use summer and winter with me." Was the first thing she offered, unable to find a reason to offer any more. Slowly, her nerves were calming down, ears not running as hot and begging her to just leave. "But yes, I can think of one." Granted, Moonclan only had one river. But she could go up near the waterfall to use it.
"Hmm... sap I can do. Until winter we don't get snow. It'd take a lot of goldenrod to get the same effect as snow though." Yuki's tail ticked her chin as she thought out loud, pursing her lips until an idea came and she looked at Misty, "It's because the snow is cold that helps with the numbing, correct. Do you think I'd get a similar effect if I soaked moss in the river and then applied it? Our river tends to run pretty cold."
"Yes, the snow numbs, but water is very dangerous. It needs to freeze. I suggest soaking moss and burying it in cold ground so it can freeze. Water soaks into the fur and instead of numbing can just end up freezing the patient," Mistyrose explained as she studied Yuki carefully, "You're going to need me in MoonClan. This conversation isn't enough for you to keep running back here to meet with me. You need tools to learn, someone skilled to demonstrate before you take on something serious. It's reckless to expect you to be medicine cat any other way. I can mentor you in your clan until I need to have my kits, then you're on your own until they're done nursing."

"Ah okay, I'll be caref-" Yuki started before stopping herself as Mistyrose continued. Wait, come to Moonclan? Really? She couldn't be horribly surprised, something of the effect was mentioned earlier. But the thought of bringing Misty, obviously a Sunclan member, to Moonclan to help her train her would probably not go over well. Even if Misty didn't care, there were others that would. And the last thing Yuki wanted to do was stir up the bad blood between the two clans again. Still, she couldn't find it in herself to say no. "You're right. Then thank you, I appreciate it a lot."
