Alarm jolted through her as she felt the dreaded feeling of a contraction pass through her.
They had not meant to have kits. It wasn't in their plans to fall in love and start a family so soon, but the mistakes were made and here they were. Cadet Pike knew that there were several cats in the group that looked down on her. It wasn't usual for a cadet to have kits. It wasn't right. The usually laid-back and cheery she-cat let out a tiny sob as the pain seared through her. Fortunately, she was inside Post Kilo already. Superior Meepo had insisted that she stop her training the last two weeks until the kits came. She was grateful for his support and advice during this whole time. Some saw him as too playful but she knew that he was a lot more intelligent than he put off. She clenched her jaw against another wave of pain and fought for the words to ask someone for Cadet Serenity. Would they even listen?

Chaman Lark had returned to Post Kilo to see her own kits- they were nearly four moons old, and she was intentional about visiting them everyday, since she now lived in Headquarters. As the last Raiser Superior, she also had a special love for Post Kilo, and made it a point to stop and speak to it's inhabitants. The small tortoiseshell was on her way out when she heard Cadet Pike's cry, and her ears rotated in her direction. She knew the sound, having given birth twice before, and she redirected her path to approach the young she-cat. "Cadet Pike?" Lark asked gently, stopping beside the she-cat. "What's wrong?"
He was so young and when she heard the news she almost laughed in Renegade's face. She figured they were over dramatizing the relationship Serenity had with Cadet Pike. But then it was true and a part of her had so many questions she wanted to ask. Did Cadet Pike want these kits? Were they scared of raising them? Did Serenity mean to get her pregnant? But at the same time, none of those questions mattered. Serenity and Pike would be parents and she would once again be a grandmother to another litter. But there was a fear in the back of her mind, that Serenity and Cadet Pike might not be ready, that maybe in any other circumstance they'd give up the kits, but because of what Serenity went through from being given up he'd refuse to do the right thing. Even if that were true though, it once again didn't matter, she wouldn't just be there for them Glowstar would be there for Renegade Regime. When she left she figured she'd just be leaving Sean behind and that she could live with, but over time it became more than just him and her and their family expanded. Now they were absolutely family and whatever Serenity needed whether it was assistance or peace and quiet, she'd grant him that.
Glowstar walked over to Cadet Pike, the scent of wildflowers and apple blossoms wafted around her like an aura, "Hey, it'll be alright," She promised her with such a distinct breathless warmth that flowed out from her very essence it seemed to silently promise Cadet Pike that there was no one in this world she'd rather be around than her. She settled down next to Cadet Pike seeing not many other cats around, "Um. I can stay at your side if you'd like. You can even claw my tail to bits if the pain becomes too much. I don't really need it that much anyways."
"Probably won't be necessary." There was almost a note of laughter in Miracle's muffled voice at the suggestion. The former Chaman had a collection of herbs already in her jaws as she arrived on the scene. She knew Pike would be kitting soon, and with the consideration that she was a Cadet instead of a full grown soldier in the Regime, Serenity's niece had taken every precaution. The brown feline had the herbs already set aside, everything already portioned out in the correct amounts to account for the guider cadet's age, and all potential difficulties that might arise.
So when she heard the feline cry out, and the Superior arrive at her side, along with Glowstar, Miracle had flown into action in an instant, telling Cadet Lisbet to go and get her cousin, Serenity. Of course, knowing the feline that Venus' daughter was, the entire Regime would know in a few moments, and cats like Shule, and Kaisra would be flocking to see the kits and congratulate the young mother. "If anything, I'm going to need you to run interference. No one but us and Serenity gets through, until Pike says it's okay. Not Mars, not Shule, Sean, not even Kaisra." She warned. Glowstar probably wouldn't want to restrict her kits, but Pike needed all the calm she could get in this moment.
"Don't worry Pike, Serenity will be here soon. If you can, eat this. It'll help with the pain and keep your strength up." As she had been speaking, she'd broken up a stalk of fennel, dripping the liquid onto a leaf already prepared with ragwort and raspberry leaves. "It's going to taste horrific, but I promise it will help with the pain." Not to mention help her keep her strength up for the kitting itself.
Cadet Lisbet, for her part, basically raced out of the post, past the Superior, leader, and Raiser who were already present, shrieking in delight as she raced for headquarters where she was almost certain to find Serenity, as well as the rest of her family... and the entirety of the Regime, to tell about Pike's kitting. Miracle was right to assume that the news wouldn't take long to reach even the most out of touch ears.
Chaman Lark felt a surge of insecurity well up in her chest- not in her own ability, she had been a Guider, a Raiser, and a Raiser Superior before becoming Chaman. But none of these cats seemed to care- maybe that was an overreaction. She steadied herself, opting for diplomacy over the urge to take control. “Miracle. I’m glad to see you. Thank you bringing the herbs. If we have someone available to fetch more, I would suggest borage leaves as well- I had issues with milk production when I first gave birth, and I was barely older than Pike at the time.” The she-cat gave Pike a reassuring smile, not bringing up the fact that her first litter had been stillborn. No need to scare the poor thing.
Miracle didn't mean to make the Superior feel insecure. She understood it well enough. Had experienced the same desire to take control in situations, was so used to it that it seemed natural for her to always be ready, be prepared, for anything. Even though she'd long since stepped down from her position as Chaman. Her tail twitched lightly and she offered a nod of her head. "I have a little somewhere in this mess of herbs. Good thinking to have it now." Personally, she'd have waited, and Lark would understand why when she turned to grab the leaves she'd suggested. Nestled right next to them, just barely peeking out of their own little leaf, was some parsley and goatweed. The Chaman would understand well enough what Miracle had prepared for, just in case. After all, though the pregnancy had been going well, Pike was still a cadet. This kitting could go well, or it could go terribly, terribly wrong, risking both the life of the mother and the kits she carried. Neither of them would set out to worry anyone, but at the same time, they both knew the dangers.
Still, she admired Lark's choice to lean towards the positive and used the borage anyway, adding it lightly on top of the pile she pushed gently towards Pike's muzzle.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Pike glanced around the den, searching for Serenity or her mother in all the confusion. A pang of sadness gripped her as she realized Lani would not be there...or Milo, her father...or any of her siblings. All her family had disappeared except Lani, and then she was murdered. No one knew the pain that she felt except Serenity. She masked it terribly well. Cadet Pike had always acted stronger than she truly was. Now, she could feel the stress, anxiety, and grief starting to take over her body. No. You have to stay strong. She thought miserably before realizing what Glowstar had said. Her eyes then shifted to Miracle and the others and she simply smiled, tears beginning to roll silently down her cheeks. Even though her mother wasn't there, she knew she had family and friends that would help her and Serenity. They were such a blessing from the Blind Protector.
Taking a deep breath, she listened carefully to Chaman Lark and Miracle's words. As they pushed the herbs forward, she attempted to recognize them before lapping them up. She couldn't help but try and learn something from the situation. That was just her nature.
Not long after, she felt another ripple of pain course through her body and she clenched her jaw to keep from yowling.
Chaman Lark gave Miracle a subtle nod at her herb selection, though her heart thumped when she realized that was a possibility. Lark exhaled slowly, reminding herself that the kits had been moving last time she had checked out Pike, and that showing signs of worry around the young mother-to-be would only cause undue stress. The Chaman slipped off briefly while the herbs took effect- in early labor that wasn't much she could do for Pike, and she returned a few minutes later with water-soaked moss, a thick stick, and extra bedding for the nest that Pike was in. She had had the tykes that were nearby moved farther away, engaging them in a game with the Raisers, to give Pike more peace and quiet. "If you get thirsty," Lark said, nodding towards the moss, then towards the stick, "and if you need something to bite down on. It helps." She set about tucking in the bedding around and slightly under the younger cat, giving her forehead a friendly lick. "Remember, your body knows what to do. You're stronger than you think."
