Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Ares-tyke was ticked off. His mom was being congratulated for some 'promotion', but that meant he was moving, to some stuffy place called Headquarters, where there weren't any other tykes besides his siblings. He stalked back and forth as his mom and dad discussed dumb practical things above moving, completely ignoring the pain their eldest child was in. Did no-one care about him?
"What are you so upset about?" Athena-tyke was watching her brother with a flat expression. Unlike him, their mother's promotion didn't seem to bother her. She honestly doubted it would change their lives all that much. After all, they were just tykes so how much change could there be?
"I don't want to move." Ares-tyke turned to his sister, small whiskers twitching. He liked Athena-tyke, most of the time, but they still managed to differ in their opinions about everything. "Headquarters is going to be boring and dumb." He wouldn't have admitted it, but he had a small crush on another female tyke, and moving away from her was a disaster in his young mind.
"You do realize that tykes don't leave Post Kilo right? Even if parents leave, tykes aren't allowed to. Even Commander Mars's tykes weren't allowed to move out of the post before they made cadet. If mom leaves for her job, the raisers will take care of us. Raiser Venus said it has always been that way. Now she didn't like the thought of her mother moving out, but even at this young age, she realized that their mother was a very important cat and others might need her just like they did at the moment.
Ares-tyke stopped short, whiskers twitching in confusion. “Oh.” He went down that train of thought, then started pacing again. “But then we’re never going to see mom again! She’ll be so far away, and she’ll forget about us with all her new responsibilities.”
"Don't you think your reaction is a bit over the top? Mom isn't going to stop seeing us. She'll be busy, but she's still our mom. Why don't you just ask mom about it? I'm sure she would tell you the same thing." Athena-tyke was shaking her head as she watched her brother. She was a bit worried herself, but she refused to overreact when she didn't have the full story.
“I can’t ruin her happiness. I suppose I’ll just suffer and waste away in loneliness here in Post Kilo.” Ares-tyke slumped into a seated position, fixing his eyes, one green and one brown, on Athena-tyke. “It’s like you don’t even care that she’s leaving. You’re not gonna miss her?”
"Of course I'm going to miss her, but I'm also not going to waste my time pouting over the fact that she's leaving. It's not like we're never going to see her again you know. She's just moving so that she can handle her new duties. Commander Mars even comes by from time to time and he's the Commander. What makes you think Mom will never come by?" She was still giving her brother the same flat look. It was just logic in her mind. She still just couldn't understand why he was so upset.
"I just know, Athena. I feel it." Ares-tyke shook his head. Why couldn't she understand? "Even if she does come by, we don't get to sleep next to her anymore, and she always woke us up so nicely. I bet the other Raisers are just going to poke us awake and make us sleep in the cold." Ares-tyke kind of knew he was making a mountain out of a molehill, but he couldn't stop now, since he was already on that path.
"We're going to be cadets soon anyway so we have to get used to sleeping without mom. The other Raisers won't be mean to us. They never have before have they?" Honestly, she was confident that her brother was over reacting. She just saw this as yet another opportunity to better prepare herself to become a cadet.
"No." Ares-tyke rolled his eyes and sat down. Athena-tyke was so logical, and she refused to feed into his temper tantrum. It was bothering him immensely. "Fine. You're right. Whatever. Can we play a game or something?"
"As long as you promise not to get mad if you lose." Athena-tyke smiled at him now. She didn't mind playing a game, but she also didn't feel like getting drug into an argument later on because of it.
"You know I can't promise that," Ares-tyke grinned widely, already over his previous temper tantrum. "What do you want to do? Hunt some bugs? Race to the tunnel? Wrestle?" If there was anything Ares-tyke liked, it was proving his physical prowess.
"I am almost certain I am the better hunter out of the two of us." Athena-tyke gave her brother an amused smile. "Lets see who can catch the most bugs!"
