The Crowned's mismatched gaze turned into one of a fiery ferocity burning within, her lips sliding back over her teeth as she bared them, her claws unsheathing and digging into the ground. She swore the next time she saw the Enchantress, it wasn't going to be pretty, and here she was with her scent mixed in amongst her brothers' and niece's. How dare she?! A voice rang inside her head, mirroring her anger.
Blizzardglow crawled up from the tunnel that led to the soldiers' den, white-and-black fur instantly being ruffled by the wind that was currently ripping through WinterClan's territory. With it brought billowing clouds as black as coal, and she knew a storm would be ravaging their camp soon; everyone would be forced to take cover. She let out an exasperated sigh; whatever reason Diesdrè was here for, it would look like she'd be having to stay most of the night with WinterClan.
Despite her utter hatred for the female, she couldn't put one through danger, not rightfully so.
▬▬▬▬▬
Diesdrè walked side-by-side with Roaringsun, her flank brushing lightly against his as they took each step. Every now and again, she would cast a small, playful smile in his direction, and occasionally a wink would be thrown in with said smile. "It's been a long time since I've been here - six moons, I believe," She meowed, referring to the time where she was forced to come to WinterClan and give birth to Roaringsun's kits. That meeting had ended in broken hearts and angry spirits. But now, here they were, six moons later and finally together; something that excited and scared Diesdrè at the same time.
Roaringsun wrapped a patched tail around his mate. He knew the way his sister felt about his choice in lover- she didn't shy away from talking about her distate. Yet, Blizzardglow knew to never shame her nieces and nephew's mother in front of them. They didn't even know of her existence until now- something that the tom deeply regrets. He had a lot of regrets, it seemed. His kits and mate included.
He pushed forward for a moment. Brushing past his mate and taking the lead of the group, stopping them just outside the camps outer ring entrance. "Come in slowly and be careful. I don't want anything to happen with my sister." He shot a glare at Tigerpaw. He didn't know why or how his brother wrapped himself up in this mess. What was with his attachment to Dreamingkit? Why did he care for her so much? He really didn't want him to come with them, yet, couldn't do anything to stop him. He was family, after all.
And so was Blizzardglow. And so was Diesdrè.
He led the group into camp, movements slow and silent. His ears flattened as he watched clanmates turn their heads to stare with wide eyes. Roaringsun met his sisters mismatched gaze, watching as Diamondstar herself crept out of her den and drifted next to her Crowned, black feathered tail landing on Blizzardglows shoulder. Yet, jade eyes stared quizzically at Roaringsun and the others.
Even at his young age, it wasn't hard for Melodykit to pick up on the strange scent that had entered into their camp from the nursery. He was never very shy, as he boldly made his way to the entrance of the nursery, his eyes landing up the she-cat that was with his father. His eyes narrowed, and his ears went backwards. He had never met his mother before, but he couldn't help but hate her. Sure she was the reason that he was here, but she was also the reason that Roaringsun had been talking about leaving WinterClan.

Tigerpaw padded behind the two and rolled his eyes before flicking his tail over Dreamingkit's ear. "Don't worry. Aunt Blizzardglow won't eat you." He joked before following the rest of them in. It felt strange returning to Winterclan with Diesdre. Honestly, he was hoping this would all blow over and they would part ways again. His heart felt heavy in his chest as he thought about what they were about to say to Diamondstar and their sister.
His gaze landed on Melodykit and a new pain found it's way in his chest. He would be leaving his other niece and nephew along with his own siblings behind. He hoped they knew how much he cared for them. It was odd to have an uncle that cared that much, but Tigerpaw had seen the pain they grew up in. They had no idea who their mother was, one of their siblings was stillborn, their other uncle had recently died, and their father was...well, Roaringsun. He felt an obligation to keep them safe and show them joy in such a mixed up world.
He knew the two would be taken care of in Winterclan if they chose to stay, and Tigerpaw silently vowed to visit them. Dreamingkit would with other siblings, but not the ones she grew up with. She would be alone if they didn't come along. She needed someone stable in her life, and he was willing to take up that responsibility.
Blizzardglow was the first to approach them, the she-cat coming to stand protectively in front of her nephew, Melodykit. She glared at her brothers and her nieces, though her gaze grew even colder as it settled upon her sister-in-law. "What is your business here?" She asked, her question obviously pointed towards Diesdrè.
Diesdrè took a step back, completely in awe at Blizzardglow's front. Diesdrè had a pretty mean death glare, but the one currently on Blizzardglow's features put hers to shame. She stayed quiet, not answering the Crowned, and rather let Roaringsun take the lead. She bumped him softly with her flank, waiting for him to speak up.
Dreamingkit looked at Melodykit with a stuck-iut tongue. She didn’t know that he and Roaringsun had been talking about it and how much it truly affected him. She stood next to her uncle, feeling a bit small as Blizzardglow looked at her a way she never had before. The same way she looked at her father.
Was she turning into her father?
———
Roaringsun gulped as he stood guard of his family. This wasn’t going to be easy. She was still spiraling from Wolfpaw’s death, how could she take this loss at all?
“Diesdrè is taking Tigerpaw, Dreamingkit, and I to Renegade Regime. We will be moving there to live as a family.” He was blunt and straight to the point, voice commanding, like an order rather than a statement. He looked to Melodykit and dipped his head to his son, almost as of saying sorry.
Snowkit had come stumbling out of the nursery, laughter filling the air as another kit tried to bat at her tail. She was oblivious to the situation before her, but upon hearing her father's words, she stopped in her tracks. "You're what?" She asked, her and Blizzardglow speaking at the same time.
Blizzardglow's mouth had dropped open, and within a moment, tears began to brim at her eyes. Blinking them away angrily, she stomped forward, becoming face-to-face with Roaringsun. "You are a fool, Roaringsun." She snarled, her tail lashing out behind her. Her claws unsheathed and she dug them into the cool soil, an attempt to keep them from swiping Roaringsun across the face. She couldn't do that in front of her nieces and nephew. Not now.
Snowkit padded forward, and it was obvious that she had started crying. Her cheeks were tear-soaked and her bright blue eyes were gleaming with sadness. "Why would you leave us?" She meowed, her voice broken with a sob. "Are we not enough for you? Papa? Uncle? S-sister?"

“Of course you are enough, Snowkit.” Tigerpaw responded, leaning down so he was closer to his niece’s level. He threw a glare towards Roaringsun, growing angry that he didn’t seem to care about leaving his kits behind. “I am going with them to keep Dreamingkit safe.” He meowed lowly to Blizzardglow, searching her gaze and hoping she would understand his reasons. He didn’t trust Diesdré and Roaringsun to watch over her.
Roaringsun matched his sister one golden eye, amber flames in his own optics. "You wouldn't understand, Blizzardglow. You lost your chance a long while ago." His words hit her like lava shooting from a volcano of fury, his own half-bald tail whipping around.
His attention then turned to his young daughter. Snowkit, the one he named after his deceased brother, the one he tried the hardest for. She didn't hate him like Melodykit and Dreamingkit. She adored her father, and he adored her back. He wouldn't give her his brother's name if he didn't. Names were something of quite an importance to the tom. He padded up to his small daughter and nuzzled her softly, wrapping a now gentle tail around her. "Shhh, shh, shh, my sweet." He cooed, turning her towards Diesdrè and Aisling. "This is your mama and your sister, Aisling. We can all go together and be with them, where we belong." He pushed Snowkit towards Diesdrè lightly.
Dreamingkit cowered even closer to her uncle. "W-what's going on, uncle Tigerpaw? Wh- why does auntie Blizzardglow look like that?"
Blizzardglow bristled at Roaringsun's words. Oh, no. She was about to lose it. "You dare speak of that lowlife?!" She shrieked, turning towards Roaringsun as he pushed Snowkit towards Diesdrè. "NO!" She shouted, leaping in front of Snowkit and shielding her from her mother. "I will not stand for this!" She cried out, her face now mirroring Snowkit's with tear-soaked cheeks. "You are my brother, Roaringsun. You have a duty here. We are YOUR family, not this wench! Just because you had kits with her doesn't mean anything! How can you love someone like her?! Stay! Stay here with me, with Tigerpaw, Coyotepaw, Cougarpaw and Cheetahpaw! Melodykit and Snowkit! You can't just go on a whim and leave! It doesn't work like that!" She was pleading now, coming to stand in front of Roaringsun and looking him in the eyes. "How can you do this to family?" Blizzardglow sobbed. "Haven't we had enough? We just lost Wolfpaw." Then it hit her. "That's... that's why..." She became quiet, and took a step back, gazing Roaringsun in the eyes. "You're leaving because of him." Without another word, the shell-shocked she-cat turned and retreated back towards Diamondstar, laying her head on the Sovereign's shoulder as she began to sob into her pelt.
Aisling shuddered at Blizzardglow's outburst. Was her aunt really this broken? As she walked away, Aisling stepped forward towards Snowkit, a small, sympathetic smile playing on her lips. "No need to be afraid," She cooed, and Diesdrè smiled warmly at Aisling's voice. "Come here, dear," Diesdrè meowed, motioning for Snowkit to come over with her tail. Snowkit obliged, stumbling up to her sibling and mother, staring up at them with wide eyes. She was the smallest of the litter, the runt, so she was still the size of a three moon old kit, despite being six moons old.
His head lowered, ears turned back. "It's not worth it without him, don't you think?"
Diamondstar wrapped a tail around Blizzardglow. Jade eyes closed as she took a deep breath. "This family has caused much commotion within the Clan." She looked to the other siblings- Coyotepaw, Cougarpaw, and Cheetahpaw. Then, to Melodykit. He seemed well aware of his fathers situation, being as he hadn't moved toward his mother or shared Snowkit's same shock. "And I will stand for it no longer." Diamondstar moved slowly toward Roaringsun and group, tail flicking wildly. Despite her short stature, she seemed to tower over the rest of the group, large frame and immensely fluffed body bristled and raised to make her looked puffed.
"Whoever wants to leave our ranks, then leave. If you do not have a will to stay, who am I to force you? We have no use for those without the drive to protect their real family. The entire Clan." Her words boomed through the camp, the crowd around them quickly silencing any murmurs and whispers. "However- you may only take your kits if they please. They were born on our land- thus making them WinterClan blood over anything else they may have." Squinted jade eyes looking coldly to Diesdrè and Aisling.

Tigerpaw wrapped his tail around Dreamingkit's side and sighed. "It's because she is hurt." He explained softly. "We are her family and it hurts her to see us go. Are you sure you want to do this? You know I will be with you wherever you decide to go." His eyes flashed towards Roaringsun again. How could he act so cowardly? Did he not care about their family?
His eyes shifted to Diamondstar and he dipped his head. He knew he couldn't make any of them understand his reasons for leaving. It was because they were family and he had to protect them. He couldn't bear for them to end up like Wolfpaw... Snowkit, Melodykit, and Dreamingkit... They needed to know they had family that would stand up for them. A part of him willed for the other two kits to stay in Winterclan and for Dreamingkit to change her mind. He didn't want to leave and they would be much safer with their own. "I'm sorry Blizzardglow, Diamondstar. For everything." He murmured, looking them both in the eyes. "Winterclan will always be my home. You all are so important to me, but I can't leave Dreamingkit alone in the tunnels."
Melodykit stared blankly at the cats as the made their announcement. He had already made his decision, and if they wanted him to leave they would have to drag him out of here. He stared at his father as he spoke, not wanting to leave any doubt to his own feelings about the matter "WinterClan is where I was born. It is WinterClan that has cared for me. WinterClan is where I will stay. You have choosen to leave your family behind, Roaringsun, you are no father of mine"
He unceremoniously turned, returning to the nursery calmly without so much as a good bye. He could have taken loosing his father or siblings in an accident, but they were CHOOSING to leave him behind. They were CHOOSING to betray their clan. He wanted no part of it. He could only hope his sister would stay with him, but he didn't think she would have the fortitude to tell their father no.
Snowkit turned and caught sight of Melodykit padding away, and with a solemn gaze up to her father, she followed him. "WinterClan is where I belong, dad," Snowkit murmured, looking at her paws, "I'm sorry you don't feel the same." With a sigh, she crawled into the nursery after her brother, seeking his comfort.
Blizzardglow snorted. Of course, Melodykit and Snowkit had made the proper choice. But Dreamingkit? Of course she was infatuated by the idea of her mother. Ever since she could talk, it was always the one question she would ask repeatedly - who is my mom? A frown sagged deeply across her features, and Blizzardglow, too, disappeared back into the soldiers' den.
Midnightdance had watched all the commotion, a small snort leaving his nose. He sympathized with Roaringsun; Midnightdance would give anything to bring his mate, Frostedgaze, back from the dead. If she were alive and in a different clan, you'd bet your butt Midnightdance would follow in pursuit. Love is love.
“You’re no brother of mine, Melodykit!” Dreamingkit sneered at her brother, finally coming out from the safety of her uncles cover to confront her brother and sister. “You say this is your home and family, yet you won’t even give our mom a chance! We have even more siblings than you think, and you won’t even try to come and meet them!” She flicked her tail wildly. She watched Blizzardglow retreat back to the soldiers den, snorting at her aunts defeat- in her eyes, at least. She then looked to the Sovereign herself, hazel-green irises almost matching Diamondstar’s jade.
“I’m going to Renegade Regime. Where my real family lies.”
Roaringsun fought back the tears as his son denounced him and daughter left him. He gritted his teeth and dug his claws into the moistened half snow-dusted dirt. His patched tail flailed wildly as he padded back to Diesdrè and Tigerpaw, guiding Dreamingkit with his tail. “Come on.” He looked back at Diamondstar who stood tall in the center of camp, squinted eyes and stable tail.
After entering into the nursery, Melodykit had never felt more alone. His father was leaving, Dreamingkit was leaving, and Snowkit was probably going to leave him to. What did that leave him with? An aunt with whom he barely knew... He felt empty and hollow, but knew in his heart that he could never leave WinterClan behind. The sound of footsteps aproaching made him look up, only to see Snowkit entering into the nursery. He looked at her with blurry eyes, walked up to her and burying his nose into her fur "You are staying?" he questioned, almost afraid to hear the answer
Snowkit let a sigh leave her lips as Melodykit approached her, her body relaxing as he buried his nose into her snow-white pelt. "Of course I'm staying," She meowed, rasping her tongue over Melodykit's cheek, "I can't leave family."
Diesdrè's smile that once was on her features was now replaced with a frown. Of course, she knew her kits would be conflicted, but this? They were defying their father, their mother, and staying in WinterClan! The thought alone caused her fur to bristle. Clearing her throat, she gave a lick to Roaringsun's shoulder before striding forward, coming to meet with Diamondstar. "We wish to stay here one more night," She said, her tail wiggling about as she tried to find her words, "we will leave at dawn. We will hunt for WinterClan tonight, if you so wish."
The molly squinted as she faced Diesdrè. He tail lashed wildly as she glanced to the soldiers tunnels, seeing Blizzardglows cold gaze peering at them from a distance. She sighed. What would she have done if this was her, out in the world, alone with her kits again? She would have done everything to stay with them. While they were leaving their Clan and home, Tigerpaw and Roaringsun, she felt for their purpose. She would probably have done the same.
Probably. But she didn’t. And she detested those without the strength to stay where their real family lies.
“You will sleep outside of our camp like the rest of the Runaways. You may eat one final meal with us during the sunrise, but if we sense you on our land after that, you will be taken as prisoners. All of you.” While the kits leaving were still young, she could tell that the Regime one had already begun some sort of training while Dreamingkit would have been apprenticed soon. They had an apprentice in their prison for a long while before he was freed- so what’s two more?
Roaringsun lashes his tail around. He didn’t want to be here for a minute longer yet he did realize how long of a journey it will truly be until they’re back home. He huffed.

Tigerpaw's eyes trailed the ground and he nodded. "Of course, Diamondstar." He spoke up, fighting to keep the quiver out of his voice. He was usually the joking one and hardly had serious moments like this. These were hard times, though, and the jokes would not be welcome by anyone, not even himself. His eyes lifted and trailed to the Nursery once more. "Can I say goodbye to Melodykit and Snowkit?" He questioned hesitantly, preparing himself for a good, fast, 'No' from the leader.
The young tom finally allowed himself, and in that moment he made up his mind. If their father and siblings were going to abandon them, he would be Snowkit's family. He would be the one to protect her from now on. He was so grateful to have her stay, at least some remnant of his life would stay in tact "It will be us against the world little sister" he replied with a small smile.
