{ HELLO. Welcome to the Waterclan plot thread c: Right now, Riverwolf has manipulated Violetstar and the clan. He believes that she is a weak leader, Chimerahunt is a terrible deputy, and that he is the god and one true leader of the clan. Since he has grown up in Waterclan and is very respected because of his "selfless" acts and such, many of the clan is going to support his claim to the throne. Don't worry, that doesn't make your character evil c'x He has done a lot of manipulating. In this thread, we need a majority of the clan members to vouch for Riverwolf and a select few to stand up for Violetstar. Those that stand up for her will be imprisoned after Riverwolf takes over. I hope this all makes sense. If you have any questions then feel free to ask! }
He had done it. Today was the day for reckoning. All will bow down to their god.
Riverwolf's brown eyes as deep and dark as the earth underpaw swept over the camp like a monster charging towards it's prey. He stood right where Violetstar didn't deserve to stand. His commanding presence was already drawing the eyes of his clanmates upwards. That is right. Look at your god. A smile threatened to creep up into his features, but he masked it with wicked poise. The wind picked up slightly, sending waves through his long, pale grey fur and sprays from the waterfall flashed in front of his figure, enhancing the power that he appeared to already possess. Nature was clearly on his side. "All cats old enough to swim, gather for a clan meeting!" His voice rang out like thunder. Instead of the rushing waterfall drowning out his words, it complimented them. It was like each droplet held a note of his voice. As the clan began to gather, Riverwolf wrapped his tail around his paws and waited. He had already began weaving honeyed words throughout the many members. Several of them he knew supported his claim. Now was the time for them to throw down the tendrils that kept their jaws shut. Now was the time to speak out.
And they would...
-
Rainpaw emerged from the apprentices den, confusion glimmering in his misty blues. He knew Riverwolf was Violetstar's mate, but why was he calling a meeting? Was she sick? His stomach dropped as he imagined the worst. The blue-grey tom decided to sit towards the middle of the gathering group instead of on the edge like he normally would. There were questions he desperately needed answered.
"You're not leader, get down from there!" Rustyheart's voice echoed after his, sharp and angry as she glared up at the tom. The former Guardian hated Riverwolf after the tom's comments about her brother, and she wasn't going to let him get away with calling a meeting when he had no right to do so.
Wyverndelirium’s eyes narrowed as he padded before Riverwolf. Why was he making an announcement? It should be Violetstar, or if she was unwell, him — he was acting deputy while his brother was missing, after all. Wy chewed the inside of his cheek, then decided to sit and wait it out. He trusted Riverwolf to act on his leader’s orders, so he just had to hope she knew what she was doing.
Coralreef and Drippaw bounded over side by side to see what was going on.
Juniperpaw stood at the edge of her den, tail flicking wildly. She didn’t like this Riverwolf character. She never had, and never will. However, no one else in the Clan knew how to heal- not like she knew much more, but she at least had some medical training; besides the fact that she was the Clans only other bridge between StarClan and reality. She didn’t listen to his call. There were a few patients she had to tend to. She had her excuse.
Lilypool brushed her kits back into the nursery as Riverwolf called the Clan. She didn’t really know to trust him, but everyone else did. All she cared about were her kits and making sure they were safe and well fed. That’s all that mattered to her. The queen sat just outside the nursery, a stern gaze looking out for any naughty kits- especially her own.
Rushpaw took a place next to Rainpaw, looking around with large golden eyes. “What are we having a gathering for?” He whispered.
"Let him speak." Bluestream said softly to Rustyheart as she joined the others that were gathering around. She sat down, looking up at Riverwolf, both nervous and excited to hear what the tom had to say. She trusted him so he must of had a reason for addressing the clan like this. She worked the ground with her paws anxiously as she noticed the disapproving looks from some of the others.

Riverwolf fixed Rustyheart with a coolness in his gaze that barely withheld the ice underneath. He then let his gaze pass over each cat gathered before he opened his mouth to speak. This is the moment of truth. With a voice as commanding as the seas, he began his piece. "Cats of Waterclan. I am sure many of you are confused as to why I stand here right now. Then there are others that are aware why I am. We have been in the dark for too long. Our potential has been hidden under rocks like mollusks. I know each of you are capable warriors, worthy of a leader that enhances your abilities instead of hiding them away under a mask of peace. While we sat starving and sick, the other clans mocked us. Then what did we do? We returned to them and openly conversed with them at the Gathering like nothing had gone wrong. They see us as weak." He let those words sit for a moment, a scowl beginning to form on his muzzle. "Why do they see us that way? Because the leadership in our clan has shown them no other possibility. I saw the Summerclan deputy speaking to Chimerahunt while he sulked at the Gathering. She easily overpowered him." Although he did not know what the deputies were speaking about, he needed some form of evidence to back up his accusation. "Then, while we work and sweat to guard our borders from increasing intruders and hunt for our queens, elders, and kits, where is our 'loyal' deputy?" He spit the word 'loyal' like poison. "No one knows. He wandered off for good."
He paused for a moment. The words he spoke were challenging and direct. They would need time to breathe. Riverwolf noticed some promising looks in his clanmates' eyes. They were biting.
"While I could say that we need a new deputy, we need to stop and think. Who chose this deputy knowing there were others in the clan that were more worthy? Wyverndilirium's loyalty never wavered, yet Chimerahunt kept sulking off." He nodded to the warrior. He knew exactly what side he wanted the tom. "Violetstar chose because of her own personal interests and here we are. She has made decisions for our clan that have made us seem weak. Tell me, friends. How can we trust her judgement now? Not to mention, she will soon spend her days in the Nursery." His eyes flicked to the she-cat that he had used as a mate before returning to the clan.
"Waterclan needs a leader that is as powerful and sturdy as the waterfall that roars through our campgrounds. We need someone that will carry us above and beyond hiding in our shells."
His eyes shifted to Bluestream. Would she vouch for him?
The gray she-cat nodded rising to her paws. “Riverwolf is right. We need loyal cats who want what’s best for our clan leading us. How can we trust a leader that makes us look weak and a Deputy that clearly cares about the affairs of other clans more than his own?” She asked allowed to the gathered cats.
“We need a strong cat leading us.” She glanced up at Riverwolf but only for a moment before taking her seat again. Surely the clan had to see that this made sense.
Bulrushfur has gathered with the others, curious as to why the tom had called the meeting and not Violetstar or Wyverndelirium, but her answers soon came and she found herself nodding in agreement. “Riverstar!” She’d previously spoken about how she felt to the acting deputy, but here it was. The time for new for the clan. She fully supported him, her tail lashing as she sent her own gaze about.
Violetstar had been in her den, silently dwelling on things. It wasn’t until she heard a call, that she shoved herself up out of her nest. She stood behind Riverwolf, gaping. What? Her Head began to spin. Was this really happening? Her purple eyes glazed over, and the leader felt as if her paws were rocking on waves. “Riverwolf...” then, as her clanmates began to speak out against her, she felt completely betrayed. “What...” her words seemed to fail her, and she realized that this was real. It was not a dream.
“Get down from that rock.” Her face changed, and her lip curled up in a snarl. Though, Violetstar wouldn’t be much of an opponent. What Riverwolf had said was true, that she was expecting kits. His kits. She would be easily over powered.
"Who in StarClan are you to question Violetstar!?" Rustyheart's voice rose to a shout in an instant, the orange feline stepping forward at Riverwolf's claim. "Did they choose you when the sickness hit? No, they chose Violetstar! Or have we already forgotten that?" Her gaze turned to Bluestream, burning with a fire like none any had ever seen before. The former Guardian was thought of as many things. Disagreeable, bitter, perhaps even weak for her condition that could kill her at a moment's notice. But no one, not one cat in WaterClan, would ever dare to say she'd been useless. Rustyheart, had, throughout her entire life, defied expectations. She stayed when it would have been wiser to leave, had hunted prey when others could not, had sat beside the nests of the dying even at the risk she could have died herself. Each and every day she lived, she had used to the fullest, though she'd pushed others away at the same time.
She had also been the first to support Chimerahunt when he'd been promoted, when the rest of his family had turned on him. Rustyheart wasn't a cat who supported others lightly, in fact, Chimerahunt was perhaps the only cat she'd ever openly supported.
"You say Violetstar acted in her own interests, and yet you dare to start a coup right in front of her! Even if you hated her, Wyverdelirium, by definition, is the acting deputy, and I'd support him being leader a hundred times over before you, Riverwolf." Her voice echoed through the cavern a staunch opposition to the tom. "Until my own father descends from StarClan to tell me that you're meant to be leader, I refuse to acknowledge you as anything but a traitor!"
“Look around you!” Bluestream hissed, though she fought to keep her fur flat her claws had begun to dig into the earth. “Clearly we made a mistake when Violetstar was chosen as leader but, it’s not to late to fix it. “Wyverdelierium is a loyal cat no one is questioning that but, is he ready to lead us? Riverw- Riverstar is clearly our best choice.”

An expression of shock and gratitude crossed his facial features at Bluestream's words. It was fake, of course, but still quite effective. Riverwolf had mastered the art of deceptive emotions. He gave a nod to both of the warriors that spoke out for him. "Thank you both. You do not know what honor and encouragement you have given me. You know my first priority is the clan." This wasn't necessarily a lie. His dedication to Waterclan went past that of just a warrior, or even a leader. He was their god. The stars had spoken, nature had come to his defense on many occasions. There was no denying that he was destined to rule over the clan for longer than 9 lives. It was for eternity.
His eyes flashed as Violetstar emerged. "Did you not know? The clan has been unsure for ages, Violetstar. It is time that they get the attention they deserve." His voice was calm. He had learned how to guilt trip her. This was one of those moments he wanted her to second-guess herself. This time it would be in front of the whole clan. "While I appreciate you taking over, Waterclan has not progressed like it should. The clans still mock us. We need to be strong, and how can one show strength if they simply sit back and watch?"
His ears twitched at Rustyheart's cry of defiance. She will be the first one to pay for her actions. He made the silent vow then turned to her. "Let's see what the rest of the clan thinks, Rustyheart." He spoke lowly, as if she was the only one in the clearing.

Riverwolf watched the clan debate for a moment before adding in another piece. "I agree that Wyverndilirum will make a fantastic leader. That is why if you choose me to lead then he will remain deputy. I see great potential in him, but we do know that he left the clan when we were sick. While I trust his dedication to Waterclan now is strong, we need time to make sure that he is on our side completely."
"RIVERSTAR MY TAIL!" Rustyheart spat, "You're saying STARCLAN made a mistake? A mistake in choosing the cat who's kept WaterClan together until now? What would you have done in her stead? Started a war with anyone who looked at you funny. Oh yeah, WONDERFUL way to get the rest of us killed. If you want to support any other cat, than how about me? I'll gladly take his place if that's the only other option I'm being given." Her suggestion was venomous, but all in all, she was entirely serious. If they decided Violetstar was unfit, that they were truly willing to throw away their loyalties for the first charming cat to walk their path, then she'd gladly step up to become leader. She'd certainly worked hard enough for it. Lost enough of her family to the sickness for it.
"I'd dare to suggest that Riverwolf could even be the reason Chimerahunt is missing. Would anyone else like to consider that this is far too much of a coincidence? Maybe my brother did like to sulk, but he stayed during the sickness, even when HIS OWN KITS DIED. WHEN OUR FATHER DIED, WHEN THE CLAN DIED AROUND HIM, AND CATS WERE FLEEING LEFT AND RIGHT. Why in the world would he leave now, knowing that the clan he risked his own life for was counting on him? I know my brother well enough to understand that is unlike him."
She dared to question Riverwolf, and she dared to suggest that even she would make a better leader than him. Rustyheart would die before she ever let him lead.
Wy had fallen silent, stunned by the turn of events. He had thought Riverwolf was the strongest supporter of their leader— how had he gotten it so wrong? He might have thought it was all a nightmare if it didn’t feel so real, if he didn’t know even his creativity wasn’t enough to conjure this up. But his head was spinning. He wanted to support his leader, but how could he, when he had already openly admitted she was too young and inexperienced? He trusted Riverwolf more than he did Violetstar. Then there was the idea of him becoming leader, as deputy, and that was tempting, even if Bluestream has a point. Wy groaned softly; all this made his head hurt.
He stepped forward and looked at his clanmates with all the courage he could muster. “Violetstar is a good cat, an honorable cat, but she is not meant to be our leader anymore.” He glanced up at Riverwolf. “If the clan wants me to become leader, it would be an honor... but either way Violetstar and Chimerahunt must go.”
The he turned on his sister. “Rustyheart, Riverwolf had nothing to do with Chim leaving,” he replied sharply. “He has always been a coward. He left us.”
"YOU'RE WRONG!" Rustyheart's voice rose to a scream. "You just refuse to see it! You're so blinded by the fact of what you want him to be, that you can't even fathom anything else. If not Riverwolf, then something else is causing him to be unable to return, because even you know this is unlike him." Chimerahunt had stayed, even during the sickness, she'd seen him, even if they hadn't spoken. And she knew, in her heart, she was right. He wouldn't abandon them like that. It was probably one of the few things she felt most strongly about.
"Where is your loyalty to WaterClan? To your leader and the warrior code? Tell me where it says another cat can just decide they want to be leader? It doesn't." In an instant, she'd found she hated another cat. Right here, right now, she hated her brother, and her green eyes glowed with fury. It had been long since Phoenixriver had led WaterClan, but those who knew her could see her mother in her now. Albeit a much louder, angrier version of her mother, but all the same, a cat willing to stand up for what they believed in. Who wouldn't be silenced just because it was the easy thing to do.
“He didn’t decide to be leader, we vouched for him, he merely pointed out there was a problem. One we were clearly blind to until now. This is our fault too. Also forgive me for saying but, Starclan isn’t always right. They’ve made mistakes in the past but, who is the ones that pay for their mistakes? Us. I for one want to fix the mistake before we have to pay for it.” Bluestream spoke calmly, her gaze fixed on Rustyheart but there was no challenge in her demeanor.
Wy's neck fur bristled as he faed her down, fighting to keep his voice steady. "No, Rustyheart, you're just blind to his faults. You want to see the good in him. I did too, I defended him for moons, but eventually we all have to grow up and realize he has never changed and never will. He probably stayed behind because he didn't want to leave and hunt for himself, or maybe he thought he could just escape the sickness. Now everyone thinks he's more than he is and the pressure got to him and he ran away, he's gone, he left. There's no body, no sign he didn't just walk out of here like he wanted to."
The acting deputy looked over his clan firmly. "My loyalty is to my clan above my leader. She is not right for us, so we need to find someone who is, before it's too late." He looked to Bluestream and nodded his agreement with her statement. "No cat is perfect, and we have to be honest about that and fix our mistakes."
“Have you forgotten, Rustyheart, that we have all had family members that passed during the sickness.” His tone was now icy as he addressed the she-cat. His sister and mother had also died from the sickness that tormented Waterclan’s members. While he was a god, his love for them was higher than any other. His eyes narrowed as Rustyheart continued. “All this time and you have only yelled uncontrollably. How could Waterclan ask someone so emotionally unstable to lead the clan?” The emphasis on those words were like two sharp claws pointed in her direction.
At Wyverndilirium’s words, he returned to his calm facade and gave the deputy a respectful nod. “Thank you, as always, for putting your clan before your self-interests.” He then turned to Bluestream, a softness in his gaze. “Thank you, Bluestream. You are right. It is our fault and who knows if Starclan was simply testing us to see if we would do the right thing?”
"How can you even say that? He took a place where the leaders stand, called for a meeting, and then stated a new leader needed to be chosen, standing right in front of everyone, practically begging to be the first one considered. If that's not deciding he is leader, then I don't know what is." Rustyheart returned in an instant. "This isn't something someone else brought up and he was suggested. This is something he brought up, while putting himself in the place of 'I'm already here, choose me'. You are blatantly ignoring what is going on if you do try and claim that. At least have the decency to call this what it is, an attempt to usurp Violetstar's power."
Her glare turned back to Riverwolf. "If you want to call standing up for what is right 'unstable' then go ahead. You have no right to Violetstar's position, no way you spin it. If you all let Riverwolf become leader, then I guarantee you'll regret it. What happens when you go against him? Will he call you out as unstable to? Make you disappear into the night and turn your clanmates against you? He is supposed to be Violetstar's mate, and yet all he's done is undermine her authority and claim she can't do the job StarClan set out for her. That isn't being a mate at all, that's taking advantage of someone."
Eclipseknight felt uncomfortable watching the scene, but even she added her voice to the mix, albeit calmer. "Rustyheart does have a point." She stated simply. The feline was a Senior Warrior of the clan, and as such, held respect of the cats there. She was also the daughter of a former leader, and close with the sibling of another. Even if Riverwolf was highly respected, this manner of taking power rubbed her the wrong way. "This is all a tad too convenient."
