Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
“You call it a power move, but I call it taking initiative. Many other clan members have expressed their discomfort for Waterclan’s situation and I am just here to let their voices be heard. To be offered the position of leadership is an honor I didn’t expect, but I would certainly accept.” He answered, smoothing out his voice. “Violetstar is my mate, yes, but Waterclan is my first priority. Plus, do you think I want the mother of my kits to be under this much pressure leading clan mates that don’t agree with her while her chosen deputy is off gallivanting in his misery somewhere?”
Sitting alone just outside the Nursery entrance, Tinybreath's mind was spinning. The black she-cat had kept unexpectedly quiet when Chimerahunt had first disappeared, refusing to comment on it one way or the other, despite having previously objected to her brother's position some moons prior. Most of her clanmates probably assumed that she hadn't wanted to talk bad about any family when her nieces and nephew, whom she was raising, were nearly six-moons old and approaching apprenticeship. But the truth was... Listening to Rustyheart and Wyverndelirium shouting back and forth, her claws dug into the ground. "Kits, go back into the nursery, right now," She ordered in a low voice, glancing down and Slipkit and her siblings watching beside her. Slipkit's ears fell back against her head and she slowly backed away. The silver tabby kit didn't entirely understand what was going on, but it was obvious it wasn't good.
When she was positive that the kits had retreated, Tinybreath heaved a sigh and padded towards the crowd. For a moment she paused, standing in-between Rustyheart and Wyverndelirium...the two siblings she had always been the closest to. Her heart was heavy as she turned...and stood beside Rustyheart.
"Stand down, Wy. I'll be honest, I haven't trusted Chim more than any other cat in this clan, but this? This is wrong. Everything about this is wrong. Who is Riverwolf to declare himself leader over us? He has no right to demand anything from us."
"YEAH!" A young ginger tabby tom burst out from the back of the crowd, snarling at Riverwolf. Oceanscent's fur was standing on end, looking ready to fight any of his clanmates at any time if need be. This whole situation had struck a nerve in the normally cowardly warrior. Yeah, okay his dad wasn't winning any awards, but nobody deserved to be dumped on like this! His father was missing, and everyone was just going to give up without even looking?! Reedstalk would've never stood for this! "I don't care what any of you think! Waterclan isn't replacing Violetstar OR my father!"
"A mate is supposed to build their other half up. Not degrade them in front of their clan and decide they can't do it. You're no mate at all if you would do this to her, rather than advising her and making her a better leader." Rustyheart almost hated that more than his power trip. Any cat who understood what having a mate was should be outraged, at least she thought so. "Any cat who would do this to the one they claim to love isn't deserving of being a leader, because they can't even take into consideration the one they love most."
She turned back to WaterClan. "This is WRONG, and you know it. Tell yourselves, would you let your mate do this to you? Decide you're unworthy, and rather than help you, bash you in front of everyone who means something to you, all the while claiming to love you? This isn't putting WaterClan first. This is an attempt by Riverwolf to take WaterClan for his own, not because he cares, but because he's arrogant and believes he can get away with it. Who, WHO has been telling you Violetstar and Chimerahunt needs to go? Who started those rumors, who have you seen undermining Violetstar? Because I've witnessed firsthand Riverwolf doing his best to convince Violetstar she's wrong, to back her into a corner until she can no longer speak." Who would have thought, that her conversation about Chimerahunt being missing only a short time ago would be relevant?
As cats started to stand in support of her, her gaze turned once more to the cat who wanted to claim leader. It was her own family. Finally.
"This is wrong. This is not a mate. This is not a cat we should trust. And this is ABSOLUTELY NOT a cat we should choose as our leader."
"Ambition is okay. Demeaning your mate in front of a clan, and publicly trying to take their rank isn't ambition. It's dishonest at best, and traitorous at worst." Rustyheart answered. She wasn't going to let this die. Least of all when she seemed to be getting some support. She could feel the room start to spin, but stubbornly, at least for the moment, the warrior held on. No. She refused. She refused to pass out, or die, or whatever. Not until they agreed that Riverwolf couldn't be leader.
“This has nothing to do with them being mates. This has everything to do with Waterclan and what is best for all of us. You are are all blinded by your kinship you can’t see the bigger picture.when has Riverwolf done anything that would make any cat question his loyalty. Have you all forgotten how much he has done for our clan?” Bluestream stood once more to address the clan as a whole. “Even if Chimerahunt returned why would we want him to lead us he left us.” Her gaze poured over the gathered cats. “If Wyverdelierium had stood before you and done the same thing as Riverwolf would you all turn against him too?”
“This isn’t about blood or kinship this is about survival.”
"Well it's not like Waterclan has been getting any better lately, huh?" A couple of heads actually turned in surprise at the sarcastic tone of a pretty black and ginger tortoiseshell she-cat, grooming herself nonchalantly on the sidelines. Not unlike Eclipseknight, Yuccablossom herself also had influence as another daughter of a former Waterclan leader. However, what caught her clanmates off-guard was that Yuccablossom was usually known for her upbeat demeanor and wholehearted belief in the good of others. Was such a kind she-cat actually siding with Riverwolf?
Sunny hazel eyes flickered with playful mischievousness as it glanced toward the tom standing on the highrock, before sweeping over her fellow Waterclan warriors. "I know what you're thinking, but honestly Chimerahunt was just no good as a deputy. He nearly got us into a war with the Renegade Regime when their Leader came to pay Violetstar a visit. He was just, sooooo rude to that Commander! And I complained to Violetstar and everything about it! But did she reprimand him? Nope! Not a thing. What good's a leader who never corrects bad behavior in her warriors?"
"Why not? He's taking his mate's position. It has everything to do with how he treats her. If he can't even support her, help her, when he thinks she isn't doing so great, how do you expect him to lead? I wouldn't support my brother if he was doing this either. He is acting deputy, and his duty is as much to support and help Violetstar as Riverwolf. His job isn't to usurp her. Violetstar brought us back when we were all dying. If that isn't commendable, I don't know what is." Her voice suddenly sounded very far away, and she could barely make out Yuccablossom's words, let alone formulate a proper response.
Rustyheart was swaying on her paws, blinking rapidly. Everyone in the clan who knew her knew what that meant. The warrior had a heart condition. Her heart could, quite literally, give out at any moment. When she overexerted herself, she passed out. This was rare, as she knew her limits now, despite her determination to keep pushing them when she could. It wasn't an insignificant thing, that she'd pushed herself so hard as to put her in such a dangerous state. This could kill her. If she passed out now, there was a non-zero chance she simply didn't get back up. "No." She lifted her paw, setting it down much more gingerly than she wanted to, in order to keep her balance. "No. I won't pass out. Not when WaterClan actually needs me." Her words were more to herself than anything, barely above a whisper for the front row of cats to hear. "Don't. Don't let him take over."
Riverwolf listened carefully as the clan argued amongst themselves. He figured it was best to wait before addressing the crowd again. Let them wage their wars.
His eyes narrowed as Rustyheart began to sway. “Someone catch her.” He spoke finally, his voice ringing out despite the chaos of arguing cats.
Tinybreath's blue eyes went wide when she noticed her sister start to lose balance. No! Not now! Her thoughts cried out, and without thinking she suddenly moved to Rustyheart's side, allowing the other she-cat to lean on her for support. "Deep breaths sis...come on, you need to sit down..." For a few brief moments, the stress and tension of the current debate faded away, and what was left was just her helping her sister out with her condition, just as they had done hundreds of times as kits and apprentices. Tinybreath herself hadn't had an asthma attack since the plague, and hadn't been around for her sister in seasons, but all the training from the Medicine Cat came back to her so quickly it was like it had never left. Glancing up, her gaze wavered between Rustyheart, Wyverndelirium, and Riverwolf's supporters...should she continue the fight, or protect her sister? What was best for Waterclan? What was best for her family?
If there was one saving grace she had, it was that Riverwolf wasn't the one to catch her. She slumped against her sister, vision going in and out of black. "Fine. Don't... Leader. Don't." With that last word, she gave one last glance towards the tom who was trying to take Violetstar's throne, one last look of pure and utter disgust. Her point was clear enough, but she didn't get the chance to say more as her vision went dark, the world spiraling out around her into pure nothingness, and the she-cat went completely and utterly limp, the world holding it's breath.
But as Tinybreath would hear, her heart still beat. Weakly, and entirely off a traditional tune, but it was there.
Finally, the young she-cat had an excuse to do something! She rushed out of her den and over to Tinybreath and Rustyhearts side, moss dripping with water and mouth full of other herbs hastily thrown about. She helped to hold the older cat up on her side, looking around he crowd with stern golden eyes. It was an expression never seen on the small medicine cat before.
And then her golden gaze fell on Violetstar. She held the leader in such high regards. She took in Juniperpaw when she needed it most. She saw the potential no one else saw in the sickly kit. She gave her role models to look up to and promised she would be safe in WaterClan. That she would be safe.
And she didn’t feel very safe with Riverwolf as a supposed leader.
Her gaze finally landed back to Tinybreath and Rustyheart, soft eyes doing the best she could as she poured water over the older cat and helped her chew herbs when she couldn’t. “Don’t worry.” She whispered. “StarClan has not chosen him as the false leader he claims to be. They will not stand for it. Our ancestors will speak to us soon. Trust me.” She could feel it in her bones, somewhere deep down, that this wasn’t right. She knew it.
Maybe it was a medicine cats intuition, but something bad was going to happen really soon.

"I don't think there is anything wrong with taking initiative." A voice spoke up and a light tan tabby rose to her paws. She was average in appearances, but her sea-colored eyes were deep and calming. Seaflower, formerly a rogue called Gilligan, had been sitting on the edge listening to the conversation for a while. Her and some other rogues were taken in by Riverwolf and Violetstar just a couple moons before. "How someone treats their mate doesn't determine how good of a leader they are. We do not know what happens when we aren't looking. I think Riverwolf had courage for standing up for Waterclan even when it meant going against his mate. Not to mention, he seems concerned for her well-being now that she is pregnant." She sat back down, wrapping her tail over her paws.
Bluestream gave Seaflower a nod of appreciation. She felt bad for egging in the growing conflict but, she honestly didn’t see another way. She gave Violetstar an apologetic glance as she moved to stand underneath the rock just below Riverwolf.
“Arguing is getting us nowhere. Something has to be done and Riverwolf is the only cat who has come forward and offered to do anything about it. We need to come to a decision.” It took all her will power to keep her gaze fixed on her clan and not cast her gaze upwards to look at Riverwolf.
"This is wrong!" Rushingriver shouted emerging from the warriors den, Tempestwind standing at her side the younger she cat's tabby fur bushed out, having gone to fetch her older sister figure as the arguing grew worse.
Rushingriver marched forwards the tabby she cat's pelt bushed out and amber eyes for the first time were angry. "There are rules that govern our clan," She said simply, "And Violetstar is our leader, she brought us back together after we suffered through grave illness, she has led us well, and all that forget that are being willfully blind." Her voice was strong and then she turned Seaflower, "And it does matter how one treats their mate, their family. I've seen first paw cats who go against their own flesh and blood, against the ones they love and it's only a statement to who they are deep down inside. Riverwolf's willingness to betray Violetstar when she is pregnant, shows that he's not taking initiative, he's taking advantage and one who does that." She looked straight at Riverwolf, "Is scum." She straightened up lifting her chin as well. "Not a leader."

{ Hello everyone c'x For this plot to work, we need more people to support River. Remember, your cat is not evil if they vouch for him. He is very good at deceiving and has been a fantastic warrior up until this point. Since he has grown up in Waterclan and is very respected because of his "selfless" acts and such, many of the clan is going to support his claim to the throne. We only need a few cats to follow Violetstar. You are welcome to come up with characters / former rogues to support River, but we really need more people to lol. This plot has a whole second half that can't happen unless the majority votes for him c'x love y'all and I'm proud of your cat's moral compasses, but again, they aren't evil if they vote for him. }
Lilypool sighed. “Riverwolf has offered protection for our Clan. It means our families will be safe and well fed too.” She looked down at her kits. The very reason she was here and alive. “May we not have any sort of trust in him? He has proven himself time and time again.” She looked around, trying not to stick out as much as she believed she did.

Riverwolf nodded to his supporters, feeling the strength from their support come and go. The wind blew once more, casting beams of light through the water droplets that, in turn, dappled his coat. The rushing air and water seemed to renew his senses and he returned to the calm state he was in before. His eyes flashed to Rushingriver and Tempestwind. "Violetstar showed her true side to me when she chose her deputy over her clan on multiple occasions. When Chimerahunt didn't show up for his patrols and disappeared once and for all, she supported him like it was not a problem. This happened so often that the clan started overlooking it. Well, I didn't. Cats fall in and out of love every day. I am sure many of you have former mates, some not even in this clan. I chose Waterclan over a mate that cares more about her deputy than me or my clan's well-being." He spoke, his voice level and direct. "I understand why you think this is an outrage. I remind you that the only reason you are blaming me is because I'm the only one that spoke up about it. At least you do not have to question my loyalties to Waterclan. Lilypool is right, I have given each and every one of my moments to supporting this clan. Never have I made a decision that would harm it. I, along with many others, endured loss during the sickness yet still went out on several patrols daily to feed our kits, queens, and elders. I assure you that Waterclan will be protected if I lead. Now, there are clans mocking us. Who knows when they'll attack? I have heard from some of the rogues that have joined us and shown their loyalty that there are others looking at our land like a piece of prey. Are we going to stand back and let them take it all because our leader is dwelling on our missing deputy?"
Wy flinched at Tinybreath's words, and he did back down - he sat with his eyes averted and listened to his clan fall apart around him until he could handle it no longer. "I'm sorry," he meowed softly as he finally looked up at her again, and shook his head. "But this time you're wrong."
The golden-brown tom rose to his paws to speak once more, slipping through the crowd until he faced Rushingriver. "If family is so important to all of you, then why are you supporting my brother as deputy? Riverwolf has only gone against his mate because he has to for the best of the clan. But Chim hasn't. If you think a cat that goes against his family is a poor leader, then you should be glad Chim's gone and left us," he told Rushingriver with his lip curled. "He has never cared about his family and he has never treated them well. He didn't even show up when his own kits died! He barely showed up to their funeral and he never seemed to miss them. He treats his current kits like they're a burr he can't shake loose." Wy hadn't been there when his nephew and niece died, but he had heard about it later. "Riverwolf has been nothing but good to us. Chim hasn't and Violetstar refuses to admit to her mistake in choosing him, and we'll suffer as long as they're in charge."
Coralreef sat with her head low and tail squeezed tight around herself. She wanted to support her father at all costs like her brother Oceanscent, but... "They kind of have a point," she mewed weakly. For once the she-cat was not smiling. It hurt to say the words, like coughing up a thorn. "I don't know what's wrong with Violetstar but... if so many cats think she's not right then maybe they're right."
Drippaw looked troubled as well; he was new to the clan and didn't know much about any of the cats involved. But his mother had already named her support for Riverwolf, so he straightened up and called out softly, "I think Riverwolf's right. He's been a good warrior since I've arrived and I trust him."
Rushingriver's ears flattened and she drew back a step from Wyverndelirum. "I do not speak of defense for Chimerahunt," She said simply. "I speak against him," She flicked her tail to Riverwolf. "The laws that govern our clan state that the leader chooses the deputy. And if Riverwolf wished to disavow chimerahunt, he would be justified. However, it is not just chimerahunt he seeks to depose, but his own mate. Whom though you all might claim otherwise, has done nothing wrong aside from support her choice in deputy. And though you've made a good case against her choice, that doesn't disqualify her as our leader." She said firmly. "I am aware of the good Riverwolf has done, and I can understand the distaste of chimerahunt, now that you've shared that with me. But all you've convinced me of is that they both are scum, and that neither should be in power." She lifted her chin. "If you wish to push for violetstar to act and remove Chimerahunt, fine, you have solid points to do so. But I see no reason to disavow Violetstar, whom StarClan chose and who brought us together after the sickness."
Tempestwind though looked more and more uncertain, her ears flattened and her tail low she looked to Violetstar who had said very little. Why wasn't the leader defending herself? Was it an admission of guilt, or was she unable to through fear of Riverwolf, the clan, or worse?
"Why doesn't Violetstar speak for herself then?" Undertow, a recent rogue brought in like Seaflower meowed. The tom was a lithe dark brown tom with scars across his muzzle. "I haven't been here long, but even I've seen more of Riverwolf working his tail off to keep us safe, along with Wyverndelirium. Everyone else seems to have just accepted that that Chimerahunt wandered off, but Violetstar never replaced 'im. If you ask me, that's evidence enough that she's unfit. No offense meant to the struggle of carrying kits, but she knows she's going to be limited and she hasn't seen to it she has a system in place to keep the clan running? Sure she let Wyverndelirium step up and help, but it's not enough, especially since it's all up in the air. We need clear answers, so unless Violetstar comes out with why she's kept everyone in this clan on the ropes, I say we let Riverwolf take over." The tom said simply.
