Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The Mercenary Superior stepped into Post Alpha well over an hour before dawn, her expression cold and crystalline, devoid of emotion as she looked at their sleeping forms. Shule, unlike her nephew, wasn't such a kind cat. She was strict, and valued respect and hard work. Mars did as well, but his heart had led him to be far more lax than he ought to be at times. Well, the ebony feline had had such an attitude trained out of her from a young age, and though she'd softened up some around her mate and the kits of hers who'd joined the Regime, training was where she drew a line. A good soldier was not made with gentle words and paw holding. It was made through trials and tough decisions, and the former Sentinel was determined to make these cats live up to their potential.
As such, she didn't go around waking each up individually. Rather, she took one more look at them, picking out the forms of Serenity and Kaisra in the mix before she opened up her mouth, shouting only a singular word, her voice echoing sharply around the earthen walls of the post.
"UP!"
This was their second test, whether or not they realized it. The first had been her arrival, wherein she'd seen no cat guarding the post, each and every cat sleeping soundly without a care in the world. If she were an invader, half would be dead before the rest realized anyone was there. The new Head Cadet in particular, Ambrosia, would be getting an earful about this later.
Now, she was here to observe their reaction to their sudden awakening. A good soldier would be up an alert in a heartbeat's notice, scanning their surroundings and then standing at attention upon realizing who it was that had arrived. A bad soldier would scramble, look to their clanmates in confusion, make noise and dare to question her actions. Aisling, the newest Mercenary Cadet, would not be judged as harshly for this, given her youth, but the rest had no excuse.
Shule stood there then, watching the chaos come to life before her very eyes. The Cadets were in for a rude awakening if they thought things would remain so easy around here.
The scent of post kilo wafted into the mercenary cadets den. Her paw steps came like an echo, silent before doubling in volume so the cadets could at least pretend they've been awake for a while when she arrived.
"We're doing mass training today so I hope all of you are-"
Head Cadet Ambrosia walked in only to find that Shule was already there. She let out a gasp, "Mercenary Superior Shule!"
"Umm..."
She took a quick dreaded look around trying to perform her check list in her head.
Cadets Awake and Stretching: Not check
Nests Tidy: Not check...
Cadets Hydrated: Not check!
Impress Shule and Become Super Best Friends For Life!: NOT CHECK
This was a disaster! Letting out a nervous little giggle she quickly began to prod some of the cadets, "Heehehee. Hey. WAKE UP," She whispered sharply before nervously adding, "Mercenary Superior Shule is here."
She had looked up to Mercenary Superior Shule ever since she was a tyke. Before she even knew what ranks were she knew she wanted to be whatever Shule was. She had vanished for a long time, but when Shule returned she took one of Foxstar's lives, got her kits back and raged war against SunClan succeeding in capturing Foxstar, but also using the war to expose a traitor in the Regime! She was amazing, nothing and no one could ever defeat her! She wanted to be her, but Shule was never going to like her if she couldn't get organized. If only the raisers had done a better job watching the tyke, she wouldn't have found him wandering around the tunnels and had to take him all the way back to Post Kilo. Now Shule was going to think she was lazy and to think she had this day all planned out. She had to get a hold of this and pull it back together.

"HEAD CADET AMBROSIA! FRONT AND CENTER." Her order rang out in an instant, utterly nonnegotiable, and suddenly the room seemed to drop ten degrees just with her voice. That the feline was already awake at this hour was a point in her favor, two if her nose was to be believed, that she'd ended up in Post Kilo, presumably with good reason. But she instantly dropped ten with her reaction. Ambrosia was anything but composed, loud and frantically trying to wake up the cats who were already starting to rise. If her first yell hadn't woken the entire post up by now, then her order did, the chilling sound of Shule's authority rippling through to each and every feline there.
Kaisra was up in a heartbeat the moment her mother's voice hit her ears, in a tone that she'd never heard before, no less. She was entirely unsure what to do, and when a glance around her turned up no good lead, she cursed internally, smoothing out her fur before quickly attempting to make her nest look less like a mess, and moving to a clear part of the post, standing tall and looking at her mother. Her actions had neither been particularly quick, nor composed, but the Cadet supposed anything was better than flailing around like a fish. She really didn't like this version of her mother, even more so because she had no idea what was to be expected of her right now. The Superior's daughter hadn't exactly been born in the Regime, unlike some.
"Eek! Yes?" Head Cadet Ambrosia said, speed walking over to Shule.
The cadet stood tall with her chest puffed out and tail high, but her eyes were frantically moving around in all directions spotting every little flaw. Her paws looked a tad antsy from her claws moving in and out no doubt to prevent her actual paws from moving. Every now and then the tip of her tail would tick to the side like a nervous fidget. Finally her gaze was able to meet Shule once she realized she couldn't use telekinetic powers to put everything into place. She had failed, she could feel it in her bones, the guilt and shame gnawing at her. Around any other Regime cat, outsider she always attempted at all times to keep a collected demeanor, but around another mercenary, especially one she looked up to she looked like she was about to cry. She was never going to get this first impression back. Her paw moved to bat at her eye slightly to stop a tear from falling.
Cadet Decimus jolted awake at the sound of Shule's sharp voice. The young tom was instantly up on his feet, alert and looking around. Was there an intruder? Was SunClan attacking again? He relaxed a moment later when he spotted Shule. Well, relax wasn't the best word. He could tell by the tone of her voice that she wasn't happy. It honestly reminded him of his mother when he or his brothers had done something wrong. If nothing else, Diana had prepared her sons for the strict ways of the Regime however. While he was already certain that they were all in trouble, he knew better than to make things worse. He stood at attention, trying to hide just how nervous he actually was at the moment.
Cadet Serenity was slower to wake. Of course he had heard his mother, but he wasn't used to being forced awake this early either. He had been in SunClan for nearly a moon now though, but he had been up late the night before. When his mother spoke again, he found himself scrambling to his paws and doing his best to smooth down his ruffled fur. They were in trouble weren't they? They were definitely in trouble.
Cadet Aisling was already awake and ready to start the day, her amber eyes alight with excitement and her grin bright. She had gotten out of her nest with ease, her eyes fluttering around and noticing the others scrambling around, confusion gleaming in their eyes. She suppressed a giggle and looked at Shule, puffing her chest out as she sat up straight. "Good morning, Mercenary Superior Shule!" Aisling purred, obviously eager to start her first day of training.
"SILENCE!" Shule's demand was sharp, directed both at the head cadet and the newly promoted one. Her intense gaze, sharp as diamond and cold as ice, raked over the cats with something akin to displeasure. It was easy to see that they hadn't been properly trained. No discipline at all. That was all about to change. She began correcting Ambrosia's stance roughly, forcing her to stand tall and still, tail down, shoulders square, ears pricked, chin just barely tilted up so she could stare forward. From then on, she began going through the ranks, forcing cats into even lines, shortest in the front, tallest in the back, with their Head Cadet standing a pace before the rest, correcting stances and whacking her tail sharply against the nose of any cat she spotted so much as turning their head towards her.
"Face forward, stand still, and keep silent. From this point on, you will no longer be treated as tykes. If you are meant to be a Mercenary in the Regime, then by the Blind Protector you will act like one. Now.
- You will not speak unless spoken to. If asked a question, you will respond with 'Yes, Superior', or 'No, Superior', loud and clear so that I and all the other cadets can hear you. If I want you to elaborate, I will ask you to. I am not your friend, I am your Superior, and you will call me such while on duty. If the Commander, Chaman, Superior, or Head Cadet asks something of you while on duty, your answer will end with 'Commander, Chaman, Superior, or Head Cadet' in accordance with their rank. If it is a full soldier of the Regime, you will answer with 'Sir, or Ma'am'. Only with Cadets or Tykes may you use a cat's first name while on duty.
- While at attention, like you are now, you will keep your head up and forward, and stay absolutely still. You will not twitch your ear or swish your tail, you will not scratch that one itch or move into a more comfortable stance. Get used to this.
- When I tell you to do something, you will wait until I finish speaking then answer me 'Yes, Superior', and do it immediately. If you do not understand what I am asking, you will say so. If I tell you to be at ease, you may relax your body, but you may not sit, move from your place, or speak. If you have a question, you will raise your tail straight up and wait to be addressed.
- Mornings will start at the same time every day. This time of day, no matter whether it is greenleaf or leafbare, whether it's dark for an hour, or five while we are training, is when training will begin. You will be up and at attention by the time I or another Mercenary arrive. IF we are late, Head Cadet Ambrosia will be the one to start training. Each morning is to start with a run, followed by breakfast, and then other physical exercise. I do not care if you are tired, you will continue whatever exercise we are on until your training leader states otherwise."
These were the basics. Far from everything, but she would get to that in time. For now, this would do. It was a lot to remember, but they would eventually come to be a well oiled machine. She let their initial outbursts go, having not given them these rules prior, but now that they knew, she would be a lot less lenient than simply being a bit rough with the repositioning.
"All of you will now turn, and go to your nests, when I say 'Go'. You will roll your nest into a ball and then stand at attention behind it. If there is anything softening your nest, you will take it out to the best of your ability and set it to the right of the moss ball you've created. If you have anything else in or around your nest you will place it to the left of the moss ball. If you happen to be wearing anything at all, you will take it off and put it in the left pile and wait until further instructions. DO YOU UNDERSTAND, CADETS?"
Cadet Ambrosia sniffled and nodded, which was a lie. Her ears were ringing, she was pretty sure talk when talked to, stand up straight... Wake up early and take care of nests, something about moss balls. She could already feel a panic attack coming out, but as per usual she held it in if only she could stop from crying. Her paw batted at her eyes trying to make the tracks of tears down her cheeks vanish, but they just kept replacing. Her entire life she pictured this day and it was ruined! No one else even seemed to care.
