At some point, he'd become all his kits had left. San was dead, and Kotori was on their collective hit list, and, well, now Limavady was too he supposed. Not that the city tom much minded that their goals involved heavy amounts of violence. If anything, he adored taking part in Noceur's parties, most of which ended up wonderfully bloody messes. But really, there wasn't much for them all. There was Haku and Eclipse of course, but they were Veterans. Who knew how long they'd last?
It was about time for them all to reconnect. They were a weird mishmash of a family, including Evelyn who was the daughter of his first mate's sister, and cats such as Atticus and his siblings, who weren't related to him or San at all, but were Gardenia's half siblings, brought to the Regime to save them from SunClan, and that was good enough for them to be included.
They were a weird bunch, and yet, in some way, it worked. It was rather ironic, really, that Slite would be seen by any of his family in a positive light, considering the rumors that surrounded him and his relationship with a former Commander, Brighton. But, the tom had either grown too lazy to cause trouble, or they managed to cause enough chaos on their own to keep him entertained. Considering the last year, the latter could easily be true.
Today was about bringing them all together. Usually, they were fairly fragmented. His own kits with San, and San's kit, Gardenia, spent time together, but the extended ones, didn't spend so much time with each other. It was a nice day out, and Slite had picked a nice, shaded portion of forest for them to meet. All that was left was for everyone to show up.
It shouldn't have come as much of a surprise that Gardenia was the first to jump at Slite's announcement of a family gathering. After everything that had occurred over the past several moons, her family was just about all she had left. Slite and her weren't related by any stretch on the imagination, but he had been more a father to her than Snowprince of Dayclan had ever been. In the wake of her demotion, it was her step-father and half-siblings that believed her side of the story and stood up against the decision in her honor. It was her family that had helped see to it that she was brought back to health from her wounds, and fought against the slander on her name when she didn't have the strength or will to. It only furthered her resolve to always be there to protect them.
Her large, scarred form pushed through the undergrowth to enter the meeting area, her long blonde fur flowing behind her in the gentle breeze. Gardenia's body language was more reserved then Slite remembered it being; her personal confidence being the only thing that had yet to recover after the incident. It was difficult to say whether she'll ever be that exact same Mercenary again, but perhaps she'd end up better off for it. "Afternoon, Slite," she meowed evenly, dipping her head gracefully to her step-father. The she-cat then turned around to look back at where she'd entered and gestured with her tail.
------------------------------------------
A small grey and white tom, whom Slite vaguely recognized as Atticus-tyke, scampered out of the bush and stopped at Gardenia's side, squinting up at Slite with uncertainty. Though only a few short weeks away from his promotion, Atticus didn't really know his family all that well. He obviously knew Gardenia, Xuxa, and Soigne; they took turns raising him and his siblings. He knew Veteran Eclipse a little bit, she'd occasionally come by when his three older 'sisters' were too busy and tell stories. But he knew nothing of the imposing tom in front of him except that he was Xuxa and Soigne's father. A timid and gentle tyke, he cautiously dipped his head to the senior Soldier, feeling a bit smaller than usually under Slite's dark gaze. "H-Hello," he mewed as clearly as he could. "I'm Atticus, and I'm...um, going to be a Guider Cadet soon...sir!" He lifted his chin proudly, hoping that Slite would approve of him.
"Rasier Cadet, Atticus," the creamy feline corrected as she strolled after him, a playful gleam in her remaining eye. Mercifully she wore no other cat's eye today, but instead a deep blue gem that glimmered near purple in the light as it rested precariously in her empty socket. "Don't you want to work with all of us instead of rolling in plants all day? You'll get to raise the future cats of the clan instead of wandering about the surface collecting leaves." She flicked her tail over the little cat's ear as she passed and joined Gardenia. Her voice was light and playful, though: she really didn't mind what Atticus decided to be, she just wanted to give him a hard time about it.
She truly had a face only a blind mother could love. She had scars that bulged across her ragged fur like maggots burrowed under her skin. Her right ear was torn off with, but the small cusp that remained of it looked picked at and caked in dried up blood. Though her tail was still long and elegant it had once been bushy like a foxes and now there were places of her tail skinned bare from ever growing back again. But more than that were her cobalt blue eyes stained pink where there should be white. They belonged to someone who had been to hell and back, but lost their soul along the way. A demons eyes is what Xuxa's own gaze resembled now.
Her front leg shuddered in time with her head as she sauntered down the tunnels. Not a sound. Her steps were unbalanced and disproportionate on how she stood, yet she traveled forward. Only when she arrived did she smile. Her smile was as shy as the moon in day, faint and uncertain, yet in that moment her family could make out all the details that still made her Xuxa. The button black nose, cautious gaze, and slight curve of her tail. She looked monster inside out, but there was always a piece of her that loved her family because they were the only ones who could understand.
"Hey dad," Xuxa said.
It had finally gotten to the point of no staring. When she had come home as a cadet first looking like this everyone stared, who couldn't? Everyone wanted to stare at her and be mad, wanted to avenge her for the spy mission gone wrong. Now she grew up to want to avenge herself. Now she had earned the respect for her family to not pity her wounds or... At least she hoped so, after all so much time had passed.
Their older sister gave a soft, but genuinely loving smile to both of her younger sisters as they arrived. Perhaps it was a statement to just how messed up their family was, but by now Gardenia barely noticed Soigne and Xuxa's...flaws. Why should she? She was just as messed up as they were, if not more so. They all shared the same burden, and they all dealt with it in different ways. It didn't detract from the fact that they both were loyal soldiers with kind hearts; no change in appearance could change that. Her honey golden eyes flickered brightly with amusement at Soigne and Atticus-tyke's playful banter, before turning her attention to her other sister, only frowning when she noticed the dry blood on the other she-cat's torn ear. "What have I, and dozens of Guiders told you about messing with it?" She lightly chastised with a sigh, leaning forward to lick off some of the dry blood, careful not to disturb the main wound. "It'll get infected again if you're not careful."
The only reply the young tom had for his adopted sister was sticking his tongue out in defiance, before letting out a giggle. Being alone in front of Slite was nerve-wracking, but the appearance of members of their family he knew quickly put him at ease. "I happen to like messing about with plants and leaves, thank you very much," Atticus-tyke retorted with a mischievous grin, staring up at the she-cat cheerfully. His smile only grew when he glanced over to see Xuxa approaching. "Hi, Xuxa!" He chirped, before deciding to settle down between Soigne's front paws.
"Hello Atticus-tyke," Xuxa purred before grinning awkwardly at Gardenia, "What? I get bored? Plus it's doing me no good having this torn up ear, it's so annoying, it should either exist fully or not at all. So rude of Innocentia to not finish her job on me, but seems to do it for everyone else," She hissed lowly.
