Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Lion laid down his paw carefully on the snow covered stone, his eyes gazing up at the mountain ahead. There was something about this place that felt familiar, though as to why he could not say. With each step that he took, his heart pounded in his chest. Flashes of deep snow filled his mind, even though the ground was only lightly covered.
Each step he took him unknowingly farther and farther into WinterClan's territory, that ground felt like it was made for his overly large paws that had always been a hinderance, his coat keeping out the bitterly cold wind with ease. It felt like he was coming home, and yet he had never seen this place before.
The sound of running water captured his attention, as he made his way over to the edge of the icy river. It had been a long journey, and he lowered his muzzle to soothe the aching dryness in his throat. The water was crystal clear, his golden gaze starting back at him like lightning against the stormy sky.
One more flash, this time jumping across the small slippery stepping stones that bridged the gap between them, brushing a feathery tail against his back. Diamondstar was a powerful figure, literally and politically, yet she never let her body language show it. With a face and body as symmetrically perfect as hers, she was very obviously not Clan born- even mountain born- at all. Yet, she made up for it with her jade eyes as cold as gems themselves, and spoke with a booming voice, "What is your business on our land?"
Behind her stood one of her Knights, a large framed tom with the claws to match.
"Diamondstar, what's the matter?" Came a voice, and out stepped a pretty she-cat with black splashing against her ivory white pelt, mismatched eyes wide with confusion. Though, as soon as she saw the form of the outsider, her fur bristled. Instead of asking them the same question, Blizzardglow chose to come stand by Diamondstar. Blizzardglow was a large she-cat in her own right, some say even larger than Bearshadow himself; rest his soul. She was mostly mainecoon, afterall, with a strong lineage of WinterClan cats backing her up. Her claws unsheathed and dug into the cool soil below, waiting for the tom to either throw himself at them, or answer Diamondstar's question. Blizzardglow was ready for anything.
One ear flickered towards the sound, as the she-cat moved through the rocks. It was the only indication that he was aware of her presence, even with her standing before him, he seemed to look through her rather than at her "Getting a drink" was his calm reply, seemingly unconcerned to be confronted by the two cats. He was a traveler, and he often crossed lands belonging to others.
He stood, water droplets falling from his whiskers onto the newly fallen snow. Even though he was outnumbered, he moved with confidence and grace. "I shall be on my way soon enough, I'm just passing through"
Diamondstar squinted. Her gaze was cold as she scanned the supposed vagabond. "Is there any reason you chose our land to get your drink from?" Her tone was just as harsh as her eyes. When she heard her Crowned emerge from the brush and stand by her side, she gave the molly a quick nod followed by a tail flick- a sign to stand down, at least until she gave any further commands.
"What is your name, and where do you come from, intruder? You're on WinterClan territory. We don't take kindly to any sort of trespassing. Now, we can avoid unnecessary bloodshed and do this the easy way. Although," she looked back at her Knight and Crowned, both obviously ready to jump at a moments notice, "my soldiers here aren't all opposed to the hard way. Whichever you prefer." She ended her sentence with an unsettling sheepish grin.
He found it almost comical that this cat would find it necessary to question him, much less threaten him with a fight. Even though she was probably serious, her words sounded hollow. A slight smile tugged at the corners of his lips "Not particularly, a whim you could call it" The way this black cat projected themselves made it obvious that they were the leader of this group.
The large tom yawned motioning towards the two cats standing behind her "If I wanted you dead, you would have been dead before either of your...soldiers" he paused, the strange word feeling unfamiliar upon his tongue. It seemed wrong, out of place although he wasn't sure why "had the chance to retaliate. I have given you no reason to be rude, and it is only polite to introduce yourself before asking the name of another" he sounded more like he was chastising an unruely child at dinner than an intruder speaking to a land's inhabitants.
Diamondstar rose a browbone. Most would have run away by now or begged for their forgiveness. WinterClan was not known as a Clan you could mess with or talk back to, and yet, here was this mysterious tom, giving the Sovereign the most backtalk shes heard since Sleetpaw. It made her chuckle.
"You're a resilient one, aren't you?" She eyed the tom up and down. He reeked of rogue and didn't look like any sort of clan cat- but he did look like a great fit for WinterClan. She matched his smile with her own devious smirk. "I am Diamondstar, Sovereign of WinterClan, leader of the land you stand on now. Behind me is my Crowned, Blizzardglow," she flicked a tail at the heterochromatic molly, "and my Knight, Barrenfrost." She flicked again in the direction of the massive tom. "Now, as I said, we do not take kindly to strangers on our land. You're lucky Barren hasn't already pinned you to the ground." She chuckled rather darkly. "You can tell me your name and where you come from, and we can keep this nice and civil. I don't particularly care for getting my clean snow all dirtied up."
WinterClan? Why did that words stand out to him? He had never heard of winter before, and yet images of thickly falling snow came to mind. However, it was her last words that really struck him, as the image of a lion and lioness appeared behind her, blood dripping from their throats into the snow. Even staring at this horrific sight, he forced himself to remain clam. He couldn't show weakness in front of these cats, although they had probably caught him staring off into the distance appearing disinterested in her threads.
After a moment his gaze snapped back to Diamondstar, satisfied with her introduction "Well my lady, since you have now given me a proper introduction I am honor bond to return your courtesy. I am known as Lion. As for where I am from, that answer varies based upon who you speak with. I am a traveler. I go where the seasons and my whims take me"
As he finished addressing the leader, he turned his piercing eyes to Barrenfrost, a challenge to do just that. He wasn't afraid of the cat before him, even though most cats would have already began trembling. Had he seen this cat somewhere before?
She felt her skin tingle at his introduction. He definitely looked like a threat, that was for sure, though the energy Diamondstar felt from him.... it was not what she expected. "A traveler, hmm? And your whims have just coincidentally brought you to my land?" She hummed almost musically. Diamondstar was never one to beat around the bush, so when she saw a potentially useful soldier... or even more, perhaps, she snagged the opportunity to invite them into her ranks. It is why she condensed the Trials and Convicts into the Runways; to give any and all a chance at redemption and stability- as long as they proved their worth, that is.
"I do not believe in coincidences. I believe in fate, however, and it seems that fate has brought you to WinterClan, Lion."
"Fate?" he questioned firmly, allowing silence to fall between them. She believed in fate, of course she did. Fate was a fairy tale, something that parents told their children to make them behave. Nothing in life would just come easily to you because of fate, you had to make things happen. No, Lion didn't believe in fate. However, he couldn't deny that there was something about this place that he was drawn to. The flashes, the de ja vu, the words he felt like he should know.
"Call it whatever you like. There is nowhere you can be that isn't where you are meant to be" he looked directly into her eyes "If you have something to suggest than you should speak clearly, and get to your point. I am not cat that will wait around while you make up your mind"
"Hm. Straight to the point. I like that." She flashed the rogue a toothy smirk as her tail flicked wildly, telling her Crowned and Knight to back down now. She had a good feeling about what was about to come next.
"Come and join my Clan, Lion. I could use more cats like you in my ranks." She had even more in stock than what she was leading at. Diamondstar was planning something. Something big. Something specifically just for this rogue here before her, who gave her so much excitement it made her skin tingle. She liked it.
His first reaction was to tell this she-cat that he wanted no part of whatever she was trying to sell him on. He had come across other 'clans' before, and they were all the same. Mindless sheep following along with whatever was demanded of them, without a concious thought in sight. Fools, the lot of them.
Yet, he hesitated. While he had no intentions of becoming someone's mindless follower, he did want to figure out what it was about this mountain that had captivated him If he refused, perhaps he would never know.
"I might consider joining this clan of your, if only to sate my own curiosity. However, if you are searching for another mindless pawn to order about than continue on your search elsewhere" he stood to his full height, the cold mountain wind ruffeling his long fur
