Serenity had been sent to the Garden to meet a raiser cadet. Apparently the two of them were supposed to go out and find fresh herbs to plant in the garden. It was honestly the first time the young tom had been trusted enough to be sent out on a solo mission with another cadet. Were they testing him? Probably. Either way he would do what he had been told and that was to protect Cadet Pike while she gathered the necessary herbs. The only problem was that he had no idea what Cadet Pike looked like. He was walking around the garden with an uncertain look on his face. She should be waiting for him somewhere right?

She tried her best to slink through the garden plants as she made her way towards Cadet Serenity. As she tried to keep her paws light, she completely forgot about her tail trailing against the ground behind her. Cadet Pike leaped out of the fronds behind Serenity and gave a little purr. "Did it work? Was I quiet enough?" She purred, her voice soft like feathers. The young she-cat was known for her soft-spoken voice and sweet personality, but she did have a playful streak occasionally. "Oh, I am Cadet Pike."
Of course he heard the sound of her tail dragging the ground before he actually saw her so he hadn't been all that surprised. Instead he was giving her a flat look as if he were surprised that she had actually tried to surprise him with such a poorly thought out sneak attack. He wasn't mean enough to verbalize his thoughts however and so he just offered a nervous smile. "No...I'm sorry but I heard you...Your tail was dragging the ground the entire time. It's nice to meet you though. My name is Serenity." He was sure that she knew that already, but it seemed impolite not to introduce himself. "We're supposed to collect herbs right?" He wasn't familiar with the territory yet so he could only hope that Pike knew where she was going.

For a moment, Cadet Pike looked shocked that her plan didn't work, but then she gave a little giggle. She lifted her tail high in the air and shook her head. "I guess it's true that I am simply not meant to be a mercenary." She laughed in response then dipped her head. "Yes, we are going above ground today. It's a bit scary up there, but with you around we should be alright." The white feline had a sincerity and softness to her voice that simply elevated the kindness in her eyes. Being Lani and Milo's daughter, she got her dad's sweet personality and her mom's sense of adventure. It was a good mix for the guider cadet.
"Going above ground really isn't that bad and it isn't as dangerous as they would have you believe. You just have to know what to look for." Of course Serenity had grown up on the surface so he wasn't afraid of it like the rest of them might be. He honestly felt more uncomfortable in the tunnels than he did out there. He just didn't want the others to know that.

Her ears pricked in surprise at his statement. She had always heard to stay away from the above-ground areas because of the danger. Then again, the only time she had been told that was when she was a tyke. It was a rule in the Regime that cadets could not go to the surface alone, so she just assumed the stories were true. A new flicker of determination lit up in her eyes and she gave him a nod. "Then let's get going. I want to explore every inch of the territory. For herbs, of course." She gave him a little wink at the end of her sentence then began to trot ahead.
This drew a small smile from Serenity, perhaps the first one since he had come to the tunnels. At least Pike seemed like enjoyable company. He still wasn't sure whether he really wanted to get all that involved with too many cats since he didn't know if he wanted to stay or not, but for now he would at least try to go with the flow and ignore the nagging thoughts in his head. "I suppose we can explore together. I'm still trying to learn the Regime's territory honestly." Learning the tunnels and the above ground territory was difficult. He was beginning to learn the tunnel paths but he had been neglecting the surface honestly.
