Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Flame had completed her initiation at last and was now free to roam. The stunning ginger she-cat with a nasty scar between her eyes, exited camp and confidently strode through the league territory. Her turquoise eyes sparkled in the dim light that filtered through the dense canopy of trees. She had a grin on her face that could either be taken sweet or malicious. Though her eyes held something far darker. Her tail was held high with her nose in the air, showing off her beauty.
Solaris E'tan, with a similar ginger coat but a much larger frame, crossed her path in his usual patrol of the territory. "Good afternoon, Flame." He spoke cordially, greeting the newest member of Primal Instinct- the initiates had always held his interest. Though he wasn't swayed by things as unimportant as physical beauty, Flame seemed to be an interesting character, and the analytical part of his brain wanted to dissect her personality. "Where are you off to?"
She halted in the presence of Solaris E'tan, her fur slightly bristling. Great. Thats just what I need right now. She thought. She didnt believe Solaris deserved the position he recently received. He was too soft to lead the league. He was the last cat she wanted to see. But swallowing her pride, she dipped her head to him. "Its been a while since I was able to stretch my legs."
Solaris E'tan noted the bristling of her fur, amusement in his gaze. So she wasn't a fan. Good, this would make things more interesting. "I fear I'm facing the same predicament. Would you mind if I joined you for a quick walk?" He retained his courtesy, knowing the she-cat didn't know the first thing about his ability to lead.
"Lovely." Solaris E'tan tilted his head before setting off, surprisingly nimble for a cat of his size. "So Flame, how are you adjusting to the League since your initiation ended?" Unlike some others, Solaris was interested in the experiences of new initiates, and those who had already passed the process.
She was skeptical to put her trust in this tom. Yet, there was something charming about him. However, she forced herself to keep a level head. He was not fit to lead and therefore, she would not support him. She flicked the tip of her tail, pretending to be annoyed though deep down, she somewhat enjoyed someone being friendly. She was picked on her whole life. That is why she joined the league. She wanted to become more powerful than the clan cats that teased her. She feared Solaris E'tan would make the league weak and therefore making her weak as well which is something she didnt want. She never used to be hard like she is. Though she put up a wall to protect herself and created an image for herself in which had taken control and caused her to forget who she really was. Solaris E'tan showed interest in her which wasnt something she was used to.
"I'm getting used to it." She said bluntly. "Its different from clan life."
"I can imagine." Solaris E'tan chuckled faintly, weaving his way between the large tree trunks as he walked. The sun was blaringly hot today- the first hint of greenleaf on the horizon, and the air had its usual salty tinge from the nearby ocean. "What clan did you come from? What was it like there?" Solaris had been born and raised in the League, and he knew that he knew very little about what clan cats went through, or how they lived.
"Moonclan." She answered, not looking at him as they walked. What was the point in this walk anyway? Why was he asking her about her past life? "Similar to the league, they follow what they call the warrior code. Though the code is softer than that of the leagues. For example, warriors arent allowed to eat until the queens, kits, and elders eat first." She began to wonder if she was doing the right thing by telling him about the clans. Then she reminded herself that she was no longer a clan cat. What happens to them doesnt effect her anymore. "I was born and raised in Moonclan. My mother being Silvershine and my father being Leopardblaze. My father is a direct descendent to Moonstar." She explained, starting to feel pride in her heritage. "But my family is weak. Moonclan is weak. They are too soft and I felt that I didnt fit in there."
"Too soft." Solaris pondered that as he walked, mulling over the information he'd been given. "I've heard of the Warrior Code. It's more about honor than obedience to a leader, though. I does suppose it makes the clans weak. Cats rarely have honor of their own." The tabby glanced at Flame, curious. "How do you like it here in Primal Instinct?" The question was innocuous, but underneath the exterior it was a little probing.
"It beats living with clan cats" she mumbled but loud enough for him to hear. She gritted her teeth. He was quite nosy but she supposed he wasnt the worst she has ever had to deal with. "I'm just glad to finally be out into the open. I felt like a caged animal during my initiation. I suppose it was worth it, though." She left an awkward silence trail between them before speaking again, "did you want to become Nemesis?" Did she dare question him? After the abuse Scenescence put her through during her initiation, she felt she could handle any beating if she were to retrieve one for her curiosity and wasnt afraid to speak her mind.
“Yes, though I couldn’t have turned down Vera if I didn’t want to.” He shrugged, faintly amused. “I’ve always been a well-known hunter in the League, and I was handpicked by Vera to be a Proxy. I worked my way through the ranks from there.” Solaris E’tan had always had a drive to lead, to conquer and improve the League, and he would be a fool to relinquish it now, because of a little tension. “My parents went through initiation as well. They were rogues.”
"Were you born in he league? Or were you born a rogue first?" she asked, now quite curious about this tom. She felt she needed this information anyway. She had to know who was trying to lead them.
"I was born in the League, shortly after my parents joined. I grew up here." Solaris wound through the dense trees, feeling the stifling lack of a breeze. "I know many of the cats in the League today, though there are a lot of new additions. I always respected Vera, and she eventually came to respect me- at least enough to promote me."
"Well, Primal Instinct kills deserters, for one." Solaris E'tan chuckled faintly. "And I made my own life here in the League. Maybe it's because I've only been here for one generation, but I never felt limited among these cats." Particularly because his level-headedness was what let him rise to power among the many deranged or impulsive cats who made their homes here.
"Are you going to follow the rules of the league now that your nemesis?" She asked, still walking and finding Solaris quite interesting. "Would you kill if someone left?"
""That's an intense question. Most of the rules will stay the same, but I've already changed the rule on killing the runt of each litter. Now we only execute kits if they're sickly at birth. I don't know if I would execute someone for leaving- it depends on the reason. I knew a she-cat during Vera's reign who left to save her kit, who would have been killed for being the smallest of her litter." Solaris remembered their conversation from Glowstar's gathering, and the conflict he had felt over how the rules had treated her. "Even though Primal Instinct is for the outcasts, there is no reason the rules should harm the cats of the League."
She narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. "Why are you taking interest in me anyway? Why are you talking to me?" she asked at last, looking back at him, raising a brow.
“I’ve always felt that a strong leader should know his cats. You- and others like you- are the lifeblood of the League. I need to know the group dynamic before we can return to our old territory and take back our power.” Solaris E’tan gave her a small, genuine smile.
