Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
When the cream she-cat turned the corner, her gaze was met with walls lined with crystals. Aries had never seen anything like it, almost like she stepped into another realm. At every turn, crystals of all different sizes and colors dotted the hard dirt walls around the cadets. Colors she hadn't seen yet, yellows, greens, and reds. Aries gasped softly and shuffled her paws a bit, a little overwhelmed at the sights. Where should she start first? How deep were the crystals? Could she carry them all back herself? What crystals would Pisces like?
"Did you want to stay here for a bit? The forest is further out." He couldn't help but to smile as he watched her. He did like to collect crystals, but he didn't think he had the same appreciation for them that Ares had. Perhaps he would take the time to bring her back some of the nicer ones later. Well, that is if he had time. He had to work hard at his training so that he could impress his mother. Her praise was hard to earn, but what praise she did give out made everything worth it in the end.
She gulped. "This is incredible.." She just couldn't help but stand in awe of the tunnels. Aries had never been the adventurous type, always sticking to the same routes she's known. "Do others frequent these tunnels? I don't want to bother anyone with my digging but... Can we take a few of these crystals before going to the forest? I've never seen some of these yellow ones before.. I think Pisces would like them. They look like her eyes." She smiled and sat in front of a small yellow crystal just peaking out of the soil and began to softly dig it out, carefully scraping the dirt off the edges of the stone with her claws. When she uncovered something other than her yellow stone, she was quick to signal Decimus over with a flick of her feathered orange tail. "Are these the black stones you like?" She asked as she scraped the dirt off a smooth jet black stone.
Decimus nodded. "Yeah! I like to keep them around my nest. I'm not sure why, but I just feel better when they are around. Some of the mercenaries told me that the black crystals are supposed to help ward off negative energy." He believed it as well since he generally felt better when he was around them. While it was very possible that this was all in his head, he liked to believe that the black crystals did have special properties. "Just be careful how far you dig into the tunnels though. The mercenaries are still working to make sure this part of the tunnel is secure. We've been working on some cracks that are further in." He would hate for her to get hurt if the tunnels tried to collapse. He did enjoy digging out crystals himself, but he had always been taught to do so with caution.
Aries stopped to listen to his warning, looking at the crystal she was digging out and how the cracks in the dirt lead up to the ceiling from all different routes. She looked to Decimus, almost seeking advice. As a scout, she was never taught the nuances of the tunnels and how they're dug out- that was the job of the mercenaries. She knew the basics, but now how much the small holes she created in the walls and floors affected the other tunnels or overall infrastructure. "What crystals do you think would safest to dig out?" She didn't want to be the cause of a collapse, especially when she didn't know who else could be in the tunnels with them. She wouldn't hear the end of it for her entire life.
"It is best to go for the ones closest to the surface that are easy to get out. Or you could go further in where some of the crystals are embedded into the floor of the tunnels. Just don't dig too deep into the wall and you should be fine, but if you notice a crack like this one.." He paused to nod to the crack in the wall and ceiling. "You should probably refrain from digging there because it means the wall is already weak and the mercenaries need to come and fix it." He smiled. "Don't worry there should be more crystals further in. Lets keep going for now."
She nodded and left the crystals she found, though she left rather reluctantly. Orange tipped ears lowered with her matching tail straight down, half ashamed and half embarrassed. When they came to a split in the tunnels, her head swiveled, overwhelmed by the confusion of these foreign routes- foreign to her, at least. Aries looked to Decimus once again asking for advice. Though, this time it was getting undeniable how overstimulated she felt. Her paws shuffled and her newfound confidence at looking Decimus in the eyes was dwindling with each moment of anxiety that passed in her new location. She felt small; suffocating in the open air of the tunnels. She had never been this far out before, never with a stranger this long before, never seen such beautiful sights like these before. The overload was getting too much for her to handle.
(I would have responded sooner, but I sort of lost the thread. cx)
"Hey! Don't feel bad! There's no harm done after all." He felt bad now. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything and should have waited for her mentor to tell her about tunnel safety. He was frowning now as he looked at her. "Are...Are you ok? We can head back if you want..." He had made her mad. He was sure of it. He hadn't meant to. He just thought it might be better to tell her about digging out the gems safely since he didn't want anyone to get hurt.
(its okay bc i lost it too LMFAO) Aries nodded virgioursly before turning around to rush out of the tunnels. She remembered the route they had taken quite well despite only being there for a brief moment and quickly she found herself almost tumbling back into the original tunnel they crashed in. Once out of the overwhelming new sights her demeanor took an immediate 180; Aries smiled at Decimus again and dipped her head in both respect and appologies. "I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you... I just... Sometimes, new places sort of... make me feel weird. They kinda.. scare me sometimes." She felt a little guilty, honestly, worrying her groupmate like that. She didn't expect Decimus to really understand what she meant, though she had enough trust in him to at least be nice about it.
Decimus followed behind her as quickly as possible. He was sure he had said something wrong at this point, but he wasn't quite sure how he was going to apologize. When they came back out of the tunnel however and she explained what had happened he relaxed slightly. He was still a bit on edge though. "You don't have to apologize. Lets go somewhere else then. How about we go by Post Kilo and visit the tykes? There sure are a lot of them this newleaf." Of course playing with tykes wasn't really something he was interested in, but he figured it might be a bit easier for Aries at the moment.
She looked down and thought for a moment. She hadn't been to Post Kilo in a while, so it would be nice to see the raisers again. She looked back up at him with a smile and a small nod. "I'd like that. Do you have any relatives in Post Kilo right now?" She asked, voice almost a whisper.
This question almost made Decimus laugh. Did he have any family? He had family most everywhere it seemed. He ended up giving her a shy smile though. "Well...My aunt Venus is a Raiser. She just had the really large litter of tykes that were born recently. Then there is my cousin Raiser Jasmine, and Raiser Momi's tykes are my cousins as well." As the commander's nephew, Decimus had a very large family in the Regime. It was honestly hard to keep up with, but he was doing his best since he was asked about his family from time to time.
Her blue eyes widened. Decimus sure had a large family! Something she was a little jealous of, quite honestly. "Oh... wow! You.. sure have a lot of family." Aries looked away slightly. "All I got are my sisters, really," she let out an exasperated sigh before continuing, "and even then, Pisces is the only one that cares. Mother just... left us here. I don't.. I don't know if I have any other family.. if shes even alive anymore.."
Aries shook her head as if the shake away the bad memories and tears, looking back at Decimus but this time with blue eyes glossed over like turquoise and a light smile. "I heard about that large litter being born. There was... ten tykes? I could never imagine having that many siblings." She giggled lightly. "I'd love to meet them all- your cousins, if that's okay with you." She shuffled her paws a bit, anxious about the question she just asked him. Was that too personal? Maybe she should have worded it differently. She sighed deeply once more.
"She actually had fourteen. I heard that Post Kilo was in chaos that day." His aunt claimed that Fjord was the father of all the little ones and as far as he knew, Fjord had said nothing to suggest that he wasn't, but he had noticed that a few of them actually did look a lot like Limavady. He had been his aunt's mate for a while as well. It was odd, but he didn't question it since he was sure that was a touchy subject at the moment since Limavady had betrayed the Regime when SunClan attacked them. "They are all adorable though and they are all so tiny. Lotta-tyke is the smallest out of any of them." She was honestly a tiny adorable ball of fluff at the moment. Even he could see that and he didn't really care much for tykes.
He had honestly avoided the subject of mothers for the most part. He didn't want to have to talk about his own mother who was the source of many of his anxieties and the constant fear that he would never be good enough. He was more than happy to distract his new friend with talk of his baby cousins.
Aries smiled as Decimus talked candidly about his newborn cousins. She giggled as he went on about Lotta-tyke, seeming enamored with her small size. She added her own story, "I was the runt of my litter, too. My brother Taurus was the largest, then Pisces and Aquarius. I'm the last born."
She turned and slowly started making her way to Post Kilo with Decimus, excited to see all the tykes and meet his very large extended family. "Do you have any siblings?" she asked rather innocently, hoping she wasn't coming off as too inquisitive or pushy.
"I have three brothers. Primus, Septimus, and Quartus. Quartus vanished a while back though and no one knows where he went." Decimus's childhood was interesting to say the least. He was pretty sure his parents were still fighting over how they were raised and he and his brothers were all cadets at this point. "He was a guider though so I doubt he's gone very far." Or at least he hoped that he hadn't. He did worry about him, but he hadn't exactly spoken to his brothers enough since their promotion to see if any of them knew where Quartus had gone.
She frowned as he spoke about his lost brother. "Oh... I'm so sorry about that. I hope he comes up soon." She thought for a moment. "Have.... have you thought about going to look for him?" She asked, then muttered quickly after, "If I lost one of my siblings... espeically Pisces... I don't know what I'd do. They really are all I have." Having such a close bond with her siblings after their mothers abandonment, Aries just couldn't imagine what the opposite could be like. It made her shudder a little. She felt a little bad for Decimus, for as large as a family he has, he seemed quite lonely.
"I have, but at the moment we aren't allowed to go out without mercenaries or scouts going with us and none of them will agree to go." He knew their reasons. Quartus had most likely left of his own volition and desertion was highly frowned upon in the Regime. Of course he had heard that the commander had left at one point and had been welcomed back so perhaps there was hope for his brother. "My mother is Spy Diana. I'm sure she's looking for him every chance she gets, but for the time being, she's staying in the tunnels and taking care of the Scout Superior duties until another one can be named. Apparently his mother had refused the position when it had been offered to her. It was strange, but he wasn't going to question it. Questioning his mother was never a good idea after all.
One, his mother being a spy. Being a scout cadet, most of her denmate's were always talking about how they'd love to become spies and go on covert missions in the dead of night. It was almost like a superhero fantasy- yet more obtainable. Aries didn't want any part of it, though. While she had no problem hunting and even excelled at it, her problem lies with her complete lack of social awareness. Spies were cool and sleek and skills and just all around awesome; spies are everything that Aries is not. Second, his mother was supervising the scout cadets training. Her training. What if she doesn't like Aries? What if she's mean? Limavady was pretty strict and mean when he was Superior- even making Aries cry a few times due to her more docile demeanor. It never helped that Aquarius, her own sister, always seemed like she couldn't care less about Aries sobs.
Aries took a gulp. She shook her pelt as she tried to shake away the feelings of dread and the creeping timidness that she worked so hard to get rid. She gave Decimus another kind and light smile with an understanding nod to his families struggles. "I hope that he comes up soon. You seem lucky to have such a large family- in a way- I guess." She fumbled over her words a bit and felt her face warm in embarrassment.
"Perhaps..." His ears flattened for a moment. He didn't like to think that he was lucky. He heard that enough though. He was lucky. His mother was highly respected and his uncle was the commander. He supposed that was true in a way but they hadn't had to grow up hearing their parents yell at each other every chance they got. They didn't have Diana's stern eyes staring down at them, observing everything they did... He shook his head. He really didn't want to think about it. Instead he focused on the path ahead. He didn't want to make her feel bad by telling her that he didn't like talking about his family, but at this point the topic was starting to get uncomfortable.
