Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been a while since Mars had done anything with his sister. That was why he had invited them to explore this new tunnel with him. Mercenaries had already deemed it structurally sound, but they had not checked to see where it went. Most of these tunnels led to a dead end and it had given him time to catch up with them. "...You know, you have seemed pretty stressed here lately. Is everything alright?" Mars was glancing at his sister. Diana just glared at him and pushed on ahead. "Lets just see where this opening goes." She slipped out ahead of Mars who came out right behind her. "This looks like WaterClan territory. Diana was looking around. "We shouldn't stay here long. Now that we know where this tunnel leads, we can warn the others that this opening leads to enemy territory."
A permanent scowl affixed to his features, the lean ginger warrior stalked toward them with his tail low and lashing. He had been hunting nearby when he heard the two start talking - they hadn't been very quiet, at least not to a cat focused on listening for the quiet skittering paws of prey - and to say he was thrilled to see cats coming out of a tunnel was a great overstatement. His remaining green eye was blazing with complete hatred for the pair of cats that stood before him; he had not met them before, but he knew all too well what group lived underground, and it was about the only thing that could still get a rise out of the bitter tomcat.
Chimerahunt came to a halt a few paces from the pair, his lip curling back. "Don't be so impolite."
Mars paused when he heard a new voice and looked back to see that someone had spotted them. Well... this did happen from time to time. He supposed he would just have to reassure them that they would not be using this tunnel and if they were too worried about it, they could always fill it in. It wasn't like Mars had planned on using this tunnel for anything after all. He had just wanted to know where it led. The large black tom glanced at Diana. She didn't look happy, but at least she had the sense to let him handle the situation. "We are sorry for intruding. A new tunnel opened up after a small rockfall. We like to explore such tunnels to see where they lead." He was careful not to show any signs of aggression. Even though this tom was clearly aggressive, they were trespassing on his land so that was to be expected.
"I suppose in this situation, it would be best to introduce ourselves. I am Commander Mars of the Renegade Regime and this is Scout Diana." Of course calling his sister a scout was a small lie, but telling this cat that she was a spy seemed like a bad idea. Using his sister's former rank would probably keep things a bit more civil. She seemed to understand this as she made no effort to correct him on her title. Instead, she remained silent. "I will let my soldiers know that this tunnel leads to your territory so that we can avoid using this tunnel in the future. Now, we would like to take our leave." Hopefully this was all that this would amount to. The last thing he needed was more trouble at the moment.
"Awwwww, did I miss out on all the fun already? You're always such a party-pooper, Chimerahunt~"
A playful, sing-song voice carried over to them as a young black and ginger tortoiseshell bounded across the marsh over to the trio. The pretty she-cat slid to a hault beside her clanmate, regarding him with cheeks puffed in mock annoyance. "Silly tom, did you forget that we were put on hunting patrol together? And then you suddenly go running off like a rabbit and leave poor ol' me behind. I'm hurt, Chim, truly hurt." The warrior, unable to keep a straight face anymore, giggled before turning to the Regime cats with a cheerful grin. Luckily she had been close enough to have a good idea of what the situation was. It had been so long since Waterclan last had intruders, this would be her first time dealing with them since becoming a warrior! What fun!
"Don't mind him; he's always kinda moody. But he does have a point. Violetstar's orders are for all clan intruders to be brought to her for questioning, Commander or no. Sorry friends, but ya gotta come with us! Don't try to run off now, or Waterclan juuuusssssst might get the wrong idea about your little underground group~"
He weighed the situation in silence, defiant green gaze scorching the pair in their tracks. The odds were against him - two against one, and the muscular one a leader at that - but he suspected with surprise on his side he stood a chance of taking one down before they finished him off. It was a tempting proposition, and if his patrol partner had not chosen to show her face, he might have taken his shot.
Instead, he let a low growl at her light tone. This was not a laughing matter. "If they try to run, we kill them where they stand," he muttered softly into her ear, then stalked past to cross behind the pair of enemy cats, blocking their exit into the tunnel. If they wanted to go home, they'd have to go through him, and how he'd relish that chance.
Mars didn't appear fazed at all by the show of aggression. Instead, he just watched them with an even stare. While he wanted to point out that attacking the Commander of the Renegade Regime would be a very bad idea since it could cause a war, he knew better than to antagonize this tom so instead, he turned his attention to the tortoiseshell. She seemed like she would be easier to talk to so she was who he would address. "As I was telling your friend, we were just exploring where this tunnel came out. We did not know that it came out on your territory. If you wish for us to speak with Violetstar, I have no qualms with doing so. I do ask that your friend sheaths his claws however. We have done nothing that warrants an attack." This was a warning really. He wouldn't attack them, but he would take his aggression up with Violetstar if the need arose since he had no place commanding her warriors.
For the moment, the leader was unaware of the situation. She had chosen to stay in the camp for the day, making sure that things were running smoothly. The black and orange feline had been running herself ragged, a new leader building her clan back to glory. It was not easy.
The she-cat could feel the tiredness beginning to creep into her eyes, a soft sigh expelling her lips as she nodded to the passing warrior, the calming sound of the waterfall relaxing her muscles.
"Not happening," he answered shortly, with a warning glare to the younger she-cat to dare and stand against him. Yuccablossom was not his superior and if she thought for a moment he would do as she asked, she had another thing coming. He certainly was not going to listen to a Regime cat; that was even less likely than him dropping his guard around one. His ginger tail lashed. "You're coming to camp, or you're fighting us here, and that's the end of the matter. Follow her to camp and we'll all get this over with as soon as possible."
What a pain. Yuccablossom rolled her eyes at her companion's tasteless shows of aggression towards the foreign clan leader, making a face at Mars and Diana that said; 'can you believe what I have to deal with?' Honestly, these two intruders didn't do anything wrong...besides intruding, of course. But unlike Chimerahunt, she believed them when they said they had done it on accident. The pair looked to be decent, civilized felines; what reason would they have to lie to her? Thoroughly done with her clanmate's attitude, she made a swift turn on her paws, smacking hard Chim upside the head with her long, whip-like tail.
"Yeah, sure, go ahead and singularly start a war with the Renegade Regime. Don't let me stop you, Violetstar would absolutely loooovvvvvveeeee it." Her voice dripping with sarcasm, she padded around to the back of the group, standing between Commander and his sister and the tunnel entrance. With a warm smile, she gestured for them to start walking, only pausing to shoot Chim a smug look.
Mars glanced at Diana who really just appeared to be annoyed with the entire situation before he started to follow Yuccablossom without so much as glancing back in the tom's direction. If he insisted on being hostile then Mars really had no interest in dealing with him, especially since he'd been reasonable about this entire situation.
(Perhaps we should skip to where they get to camp?)
The way to camp Chimerahunt was behind them every step of the way, but as they drew near he melted away. Leaving Yuccablossom to lead them in, he slipped ahead and into the camp.
“Violetstar,” he called, entering her den without bothering to wait for her to invite him. “The Commander of the Regime is here to see you.” He showed his teeth. “Caught him trespassing. Should we send him home with a nice reminder not to other us again?”
Mars remained outside of the den however, waiting to be invited as that was the polite thing to do. He gained nothing by being rude here. He would simply explain the situation as well as her warrior's behavior and then he would be on his way. He honestly hadn't expected to be out this long anyway. He glanced over at Diana who was clearly getting more annoyed with the tom by the second. It was all she could do to hold her tongue, but losing her temper here would solve nothing so he did hope that she would behave for the time being.
Violetstar blinked sleepily. The she-cat listened carefully, ignoring the tom’s tone. She gave a small nod before pushing herself to her paws and giving her furs a quick over, only attempting to make sure that she seemed somewhat presentable. “Send them in, Chimerahunt.”
He stalked out without another word, jerking his muzzle back toward the den and glaring at the pair of foreigners. "Head into there," he rumbled shortly. "And give me an excuse to skin you alive while you're at it."
"Ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" This time, Yuccablossom actually groaned out loud at Chimerahunt's threat, slumping her shoulders in both exhaustion and pure annoyance. "For the love of Starclan, Chimerahunt, learn some diplomacy why don't ya? Can't we all just get along? Life would be so much easier that way."
She turned back to the Regime cats with a more genuine, tired smile. "Violetstar's actually a pretty reasonable leader. We've just made it through a rough patch, so everybody's still a tiny bit stressed."
By this point, Mars's patience was running thin. While he was doing his best to hold his composure, a flash of annoyance escaped his otherwise stoic face. Diana was openly glaring at Chimerahunt at this point as if he was daring him to try anything. She still kept quiet though since she knew that it was important for the Regime to maintain their innocence in this situation. "It seems we've found ourselves in a bit of a difficult situation here. We were exploring a new tunnel that opened up and it seems to have led onto your territory. I can say that we have taken nothing and were planning on returning to the tunnels when your warriors spotted us." He wouldn't start out with his complaints of course since that would look bad, but Chimerahunt's name would come up before the end of this.
“I see.” Violetstar responded, her purple eyes never leaving the tom. “A tunnel that leads right to my clan’s territory. I cannot say that I am pleased to hear this information.” She was sure he knew why. It meant another clan had full access to her land. Hunting their prey was now possible, despite the fact they mainly relied on fish.
Mars shook his head. "If you want to close the tunnel from above feel free to do so, but I will not intentionally collapse a tunnel. That carries far too many risks for the stability of the surrounding tunnels. We honestly have no use for this tunnel so if you want to close it, we will not fight you." He held her gaze evenly. "However, I do not appreciate the aggression your warrior Chimerahunt showed towards Diana and I. He openly prevented us from leaving, which is what we were intending on doing when we were stopped. Although we cooperated fully he continued to show undue aggression and threatened violence. Should he have left things be we would already be back in the tunnels and the tunnel in question would have been deemed useless. The regime has no use for such tunnels." Mars didn't appreciate Violetstar attempting to order him around, especially when what she had said to do was very dangerous to the tunnels.
She kept a calm demeanor about herself, never flinching or missing a word that was shared between the two. Violetstar shook her head,”Commander Mars, I am not asking you to collapse a tunnel. Perhaps you misheard me, I only said that I wanted the tunnel closed off. I understand there are risks in many things, but I do not know the ways of the tunnels like you.” She paused, her whiskers twitching.
Upon his words of her deputy she did not show any shock, almost as if she already knew his nature very well. “I see. Please, take note that Chimerahunt was only following orders. Due to WaterClan’s most recent events, all patrols have been ordered to bring any trespassers straight to me. Intended, or not. It is simply for the safety of my cats, I reassure you of this.” Another pause. “However, I will speak to him about what you’ve said about acting aggressive after you willing cooperated. My deepest apologies.” Violetstar closed her eyes momentarily, dipping her head to show she meant it.
“I do not wish for bad blood between our clans.” She stopped, correcting herself. “Groups.” Violetstar knew very well that they did not consider themselves a clan. She was a fair leader, it seemed. Unwilling to start wars, but careful, all the same.
