It was the strangest sight that Firstpaw had ever seen.
Cats walking through another cat.
When Lastpaw and Firstpaw were made apprentices Glowstar explained that training would be different from them. The next morning they would be approached by a spirit guide, a cat of StarClan who would mentor them that only apprentices could see, and once they were made warriors they would no longer be able to see them. Glowstar had explained it with some questionable logic about blessed land and underground currents from Mooncreek, but she had insisted that they would wake up to find their spirit guide there to mentor them. When Firstpaw had intially woken up, nothing had seemed amiss, but as soon as she stepped outside the apprentice den, there it was.
The ghostly figure was of an adult she-cat, with the fluffiest, messiest grey fur that Firstpaw had ever seen. Despite the shiny glow of stars that made up the spirit guide's form, she could swear that there were bits and pieces of leaves stuck in the ghost's pelt. The spirit seemed content and relaxed just sitting there, taking in the hustle and bustle of morning Dayclan duties with obvious amusement sparkling in her dull green eyes. She didn't even seem to mind that some warriors were walking right through her. After a few moments, the Starclan cat seemed to notice that she was being watched, and turned to glance over her shoulder at Firstpaw with a kind, gentle smile.
"Good morning, sweetie. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Despite The oddity of the whole scenario, Firstpaw did not care to be rude. "And you as well, ma'am. Are you the spirit guide I was told about?" She asked with a respectful dip of her head.
The she-cat nodded, dipping her head respectfully to the young apprentice. Her movements appeared to be very formal, and despite her youthful appearance, she spoke in a way that greatly resembled cats in an elder's den. "You may call me...Pebbleflight," she responded, though not without an odd hesitation before giving her name to Firstpaw. "Yes...Pebbleflight. I was a Medicine Cat, a long, long time ago, long before you were born. Perhaps even before your parents. Even so..." Pebblelight turned her head to look around at the warriors hustling through camp. "Not much really changes, does it?"
"I'm not sure. In not from here. I think I somewhat understand what you mean." Firstpaw mewed, amber eyes glancing about. She tried not to worry about others thinking she was mad for talking to thin air.
