The Journey has not been easy on a mostly empty stomach. When was the last time Violeteyes had eaten? The WaterClan warrior breathed in slowly as they neared the sacred place. The place all leaders would go upon receiving their lives. Had Ottermystique been right? Was this truly her destiny to become leader, or a pure coincidence that the violets were left within the leader’s den? Regardless, she was sure to find out, as her and Tobias were now arriving. She looked to the tom, and slowly took in a breath.
“Please don’t leave.” She muttered to her friend, her purple hued eyes glancing to the tom. He’d been a good friend and came to a WaterClan when they truly needed it. Right now, she was scared. Scared of the unknown.
The He night was silent, the cold air getting to her bones, her paw pads aching from the freezing ground. It was a hard journey, and not one she ever looked forward to taking again.

"I wouldn't leave even if you had asked me to, you aren't a leader yet." he joked half heartedly. In reality even if she was leader he was sure he would not have left if commanded to. Something felt odd about this place. As ancient as the many paw prints that littered the creeks bed it still seemed strange. Like someone was watching them. "If my mothers stories were accurate I do believe you need to lay down and lap the creeks water?" he asked and stated. He sat down next to her and wrapped his thin tail around his paws.
“I think so.” Usually leaders had medicine cats to guide them in the ceremony. Medicine cats to accompany them to whatever it was that happened. Without one, Violeteyes felt scared. She swallowed, hard, then slowly moved to lay next to Tobias. The feline laid down, and bent her head to gaze into the starry waters.
It was... beautiful. Sucking in a breath, she finally lapped at the water and an odd sleepiness overcame her. Her eyes drifted shut, and soon her head was laying on her paws.

"Welcome Violeteyes." A long furred silver she-cat blinked glistening green eyes as she padded forward towards the violet eyed future of WaterClan. Starlight in ever paw step she took. When she close she dipped her head in greeting. "Violeteyes. We have been waiting a long while for you to come to us." she purred as she looked beyond the cat to the tom waiting patiently beside her soundly sleeping body. "I see my son has found his destiny."
As the Stars began to lose their brightness she blinked a few times and could finally see. Before her were several cats, cats that made her heart shatter slowly. Each of them were those who perished in the sickness. Ripple cough had taken every single one of these cats from her, and she found it hard to catch her breath.
It was then that the first cat stepped forward, it was Amaryllislagoon. “Y-you have?” What did she mean she had been waiting a long time? How long had they known she would be the leader? Or... did this mean Ottermystique had been right?
“Your son?” Was she talking about Tobias?
Violeteyes was in too much shock to properly take in what was happening.

"Yes. My son Tobias. I prayed in my last moon that when I was no longer around he would somehow be guided back to his home. That one day WaterClan would be a place for him." She purred. "Enough of my past life dreams. This is your time my dear. come closer." Amaryllislagoon didn't wait for Violeteyes to move at all, instead bringing herself to her and resting her chin on the crown of her head. "With this life I give you the power of motherly love. To see each of your clan mates with the unconditional love and protectiveness of a mother." She closed her eyes as the life flowed through her and into Violeteyes.
He was of WaterClan blood. Something she had never suspected. She didn’t have much time to think on this, before the warrior was touching her forehead. A sudden surge passed through her, painful, yet powerful at the same time. Her face wrinkled as she tried to pull away, but her body was frozen and stiff and she found herself stuck and unable to move. When it was finally over, it was hard not to let her legs buckle. Violeteyes breathed in. That was intense, and scary all at the same time. She had felt so much power and pain surge through her.
Would she have to endure this over and over? Would they all be this painful?

"There there." the small she-cat meowed. "Before I go and allow the others to present their lives to you I have another message from the whole of StarClan for you." she dipped her head and smiled as she looked once more past Violeteyes to her son. Ever loyal still waiting for his leader ad friend. "Tobias has been preparing unknowingly for a time when he was to help you rebuild your once thriving clan. He has a heart of gold Violeteyes. StarClan wants him to be WaterClan's next medicine cat." She purred and didn't allow the she-cat to respond before walking away and being swallowed by the starry masses.
Her purple hued eyes widened. The shock was slowly leaving her body and she was then able to process what she was being told. Tobias was going to be the clan’s medicine cat? What were the odds of that...? Her dear friend. She smiled softly, and dipped her head in agreement and acceptance.
Doublebind watched as Amaryllislagoon padded back into the shadows, taking a second to let Violeteyes absorb the other she-cat's words before stepping forward himself. He wasn't one for sentimentality, clearing his throat briefly before speaking up. "WaterClan needs a strong, dedicated leader now more than ever," he began, lifting his chin to look the earthly she-cat straight in the eyes. "Without that dedication, innocent Clanmates may - no, will perish. They will be relying on you and you alone to forge a path head." He stepped forward a little more to rest his chin on her head. "With this life, I give you the gift of commitment, so that your heart may never stray from your Clan."
Moments later, another cat was speaking to her. Doublebind. She remembered the tom, and listened carefully to his words. As he spoke, she could feel a heavy weight beginning on her shoulders as he told her the weight of her new position as the leader of WaterClan. She nodded softly, before feeling yet another stinging sensation spreading strongly through her body, like red hot fire.
Her face twisted as she struggled to stay on her paws.
He had been one of the most recent to pass, only a quarter-moon ago, but the gauzy outline of his fur matched like it was always meant to be - like he had always been this opaque, and his time as a living cat had merely been temporary. In the span of the sickness he had lost his son-and-law and his grandchildren, yet it had been almost a victory for the tom, who finally had his revenge on one of the cats who had wronged him. It had taken the butler a long time to do it, but in the end he hadn't minded; he had enjoyed serving the family as he had, and he had grown closer with them than he had ever expected he would. He did not except many cats would be grieving for him, but he knew Chim would, and that was enough to satisfy him.
"Violeteyes, your clan will face many threats, as they have in the past," he announced, "but you will continue to triumph. With this life, I give you vengeance - so you can protect your clan and remind everyone WaterClan is not a mouse for them to play with."
Just as the life had faded and she was able to breathe again, she was approached by another. Violeteyes was faced with the cat whom had once been around Chimerahunt quite frequently. Until, he had passed, that is. He was one of the last that had left the clan before the sickness was faded. She gazed at him with sad eyes as she listened to Ghosttoad. His life was something she needed more than many, and it would keep her strong.
As he touched her, she breathed in sharply. It was intense, and it made her legs shake.

The black she-cat wore a small smile as she passed by Ghosttoad on her way to the new leader. She had lived a long life, and had since watched over the clan from her place among the stars. "You are one of the few who made it through the recent suffering. Violeteyes, you have seen many a cat pass, but what you have seen in this life is all you know. I give you the life of knowledge, so that you may not fall prey to the secrets that this clan holds from you." Her eyes filled with stars, she touched her nose to the top of the leaders head, leaving it there for a second before removing herself, rejoining the starry cats about her.
As Nightcreek retreated, a stunning auburn she-cat loped forward to take her place. White fawn spots dappled her flanks and her plumed tail was tipped with alabaster, and her green eyes glimmered with starlight. Named for a former leader, born to a medicine cat, it was only fitting that Celestialwarrior passed on a life to the new leader, and her life was fitting as well for the she-cat that had never known fear.
"Take my fearlessness! I have no need of it anymore, but you should do well to embrace it. Let your faith in your clan guide your paws and fill you with confidence so you need never fear for their defeat or betrayal." Her chin rested on the warrior's muzzle and she giggled at the tingling feeling that rushed through her from tail-tip to whisker as she offered a life to the new leader.
The next two lives were just as intense. Violetstar had to hold herself steady, yet at the same time her paws were stuck like she had stepped in pinesap. After each life she gasped for air, not realizing she had held her breath when receiving them. She murmured a small thanks to both of the cats, her eyes glazed, wondering if she would have the energy to take on the next lives she would receive from the fallen warriors.
