Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Diana had been in a terrible mood as of late. While she wasn't the most agreeable cat in the Regime, she typically wasn't in this bad of a mood. While she had resumed her duties as a spy now that most of her sons were cadets. While one was still in Post Kilo, he was old enough to take care of himself and she needed to resume her duties. Of course this meant that she wasn't seeing Hurricane on a day to day basis as well and to be honest, that was probably a good thing. At the moment, the two of them could hardly get through a conversation together without getting into some sort of argument. It was frustrating when he just wouldn't listen to her. She sighed, trying her best to keep her irritated mood from spilling out. At the moment she was hunting. She had needed to do something to get her mind off of her current situation and this had been the perfect way to do so.
He was confused. Everything had been going great; they were happy, they had kits on the way, and then it all just... fell apart. Suddenly she was angry all the time and he'd tried to understand why, but it hadn't really made any sense. She was upset that he was enjoying time with their kits? That he liked to play and get along with them and be the fun parent? All he really knew was that something was wrong, and it deeply saddened him to feel this tunnel open between them. Yet every time he saw Diana, there was such tension in the air, it was hard to get a word in without feeling like the volatile feline was about to explode...
He was prowling in search of prey himself when he rounded the corner and came face-to-face with his mate. Immediately the scout hesitated, hope flickering in his golden gaze before he looked away, resigned before the oncoming tide of accusations.
She tensed the moment Hurricane came into view. He was honestly the last person she had wanted to see. She was still upset with him after the last argument and she really didn't have the energy to fight with him again, not when she had wanted a bit of time to cool her head and think things through. Her green eyes narrowed after a moment and she turned away. She had come out to hunt, not to argue and that was what she was going to do. "Adonis lets go. I'm moving on." With the trouble with BrookClan, her brother had ordered mercenaries to escort all hunting parties for the time being and so she had grabbed the first Mercenary that she had seen which just so happened to be Adonis, a large tabby tom that seemed content to follow her and allow her to hunt unless she spoke to him or he found something he thought she needed to see.
When she didn't say anything, he glanced back over, only for her to turn away and call to the Mercenary. Jealousy burned in his chest. "Diana, wait," he called, taking a step toward her before stopping again. What was he supposed to say? He had no idea, especially while they had an audience. "... Just talk to me. For a moment. Alone." He shot a hard sideways look at the Mercenary. "I won't take long, really."
Diana paused, tensing when Hurricane called her back. She glanced over her shoulder at the tom for a moment. Adonis had paused beside her. After a moment, she turned back around, her fur slightly brushing Adonis's as she did so. Of course she hardly thought anything of it since nothing had been meant by it and Adonis didn't appear to react to it either. When Hurricane asked to speak to her alone, he just smiled and dipped his head. "Sure. I'll just wait over here. Let me know when you are ready to go Diana." He left without causing a fuss. Diana just sighed and sat down. "Now what is it that you want?"
His eyes narrowed as he watched the mercenary leave and he felt jealousy prickling in the pads of his paws. He was getting awfully close to his mate. "Is everything okay with him? Is he bothering you? I can tell him to leave you alone," he mewed stiffly, staring after where the other tom had disappeared. Not once did he glance at Diana, suddenly fixated on this stranger that was so comfortable at her side.
"What? Why would he be bothering me? He's just keeping watch while I hunt." Her expression had changed to an irritated glare. "If I wanted him to leave I would have told him to do so already. I'm perfectly capable of handling myself you know." She didn't quite understand why he seemed to be upset about the idea of Adonis accompanying her on her hunt. It was easier to have a mercenary around so she could focus solely on hunting and not have to worry about hawks or enemy warriors should they be brave enough to come this far. She had honestly just been trying to relax for once.
That was true, she could look after herself just fine, but that didn't mean he liked the idea. It was even worse if she wanted him around. Hurricane gritted his teeth as he looked back at her. "Fine," he muttered. "If that's how you feel. Maybe I'll go out hunting with... Gardenia." There; a mercenary and the superior and pretty to boot. He didn't know her well, but that wasn't so important as making his mate jealous.
Immediately he was struck with guilt. Even he could see how childish and rude that was. There was no taking it back, though, so he tried to tumble on before she could get a word in. "-- and anyway, regardless, with that behind us, I just wanted to make sure you were doing good. And the kits are doing well. I haven't been by to play with them in a few days. If you haven't noticed."
Diana gave him a strange look that very quickly changed to irritation. "I'm pretty sure Superior Gardenia has better things to do than escort you on a hunting mission, but if you want to ask her go ahead. "If you haven't noticed, all but Septimus-tyke were promoted and he will be promoted soon. They are cadets and shouldn't be wasting their time playing. I wish you would learn that there is more to raising tykes than playing with them." She had always had to be the strict one, the ones their little ones resented because Hurricane had never even attempted to discipline them. Even when she had tried to speak with him on it, it had gotten her nowhere. She stood and turned away, her tail lashing in clear agitation. "If that is all you wanted then I'm going. I've still got quite a bit of hunting to do."
"Nonsense!" he exclaimed, lifting his head in surprise. "I played long after I was a cadet, and sometimes I still play about! It's fun and it helps you bond and it's good training, all in one!" He shook his head, prepared to go on, but when he noticed how keen she was to leave he hesitated. His ears lowered a little and his face well as he nodded somberly. "Yes, of course," he mumbled. "Um... good hunting, Diana."
Diana rolled her eyes. "You just don't get it do you?" She turned and left without giving Hurricane so much as a second glance. Adonis was waiting for her nearby and when she joined him, the two of them continued on their hunt.
Get what? Hurricane stared after her, dejected and lost, his interest in his hunt abated.
-
There! Almost had it! His paws skidded on the muddy turf as he swept around the turn and launched into a sprint again. The frog hopped determinedly in front of him, seeking a desperate escape from the tunnels, but it was on borrowed time. There would be no escaping from the confident scout as he wove through the tunnels, closer, closer, then pounced as it turned the corner.
Thunk.
Hurricane fell back, dazed, as his leap carried him around the corner only to collide headfirst with another cat.
"Oh pardon me." Adonis had honestly been talking with Diana and hadn't been paying attention to where he was going so when he had run into Hurricane he dipped his head apologetically. Oh hello again." He smiled at Hurricane while Diana stood off to the side. "Are you alright?"
These two again. He stifled his anger as best he could as he looked up at them, though he couldn't prevent the narrowing of his eyes and the slight curl of his lip. "Hi," Hurricane responded stiffly, rising back to his paws and sizing them up. "You spoiled my hunt."
Adonis frowned at his hostile tone. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but you ran into me." He didn't appear to be angry, just shocked at the other tom's aggression. He was also hoping to smooth things over before Diana felt the need to say something since he knew that she tended to speak her mind more often than not and it had gotten her into trouble with her groupmates more than once. Her and Hurricane were having a rough time as it was. He didn't want to make matters worse.
"And if you had been looking before you walked around the corner, or listening, you would've known I was coming and chasing prey. Now all the time I spent stalking that frog is wasted," he replied, his tone oozing false patience. His brow arched as he shot Diana a seriously? you're hanging out with this guy again? look.
"Are you seriously going to act like a spoiled Tyke? You ran into him and now you are standing there complaining like nothing was your fault! It's the same behavior I would expect from children!" She was annoyed mostly. She didn't understand why he was acting this way. She would have accepted it if he had admitted they were both at fault, and kept going, but she would not stand by when he was acting like this. "And were you hunting the frog or playing with it? Before now I've never once seen you take something serioulsy."
Adonis laid his tail on her shoulder as a way to get his attention. "It's really not that big of a deal. There are more frogs on the territory and if he wants to blame me for losing the one he had, I really don't mind. It's not worth arguing over." He had never really been a confrontational person and even now he didn't seem to be bothered by Hurricane's anger. Instead, he was giving him an understanding look as if he had realized something that Diana didn't.
Hurricane's neck fur bristled and he stepped forward, lip curling. "I just want him to think before he steps next time so he doesn't scare off all the prey in the Regime! But it figures you would defend him," he seethed. His golden gaze fell upon the tom's tail on her shoulders and he couldn't tear it away as the anger boiled up inside. Now they weren't even bothering to hide it from him! A low, upset growl rumbled in the back of his throat.
"I think that is enough." At this point Adonis had stepped in front of Diana who was growling and most likely preparing to claw her mate's eyes out. "Hurricane I have no idea what has you so upset, but neither of us have done anything that warrants this level of anger. Diana is your mate. Perhaps you should start treating her as such." Diana had turned to storm off without waiting to hear from Hurricane. Once she was gone, Adonis just gave Hurricane an annoyed look. "If you must know, Diana just wanted my advice on how to handle a certain situation. We've been friends since we were tykes." He shook his head and turned to go. He wasn't going to fight with him. He had no reason to for one thing and he knew that Diana would be upset if he actually did harm him.
"I know how to treat my mate! Don't you go telling me how to treat my mate, she's mine, not yours!" Hurricane snapped. He lunged after the tom, not to attack but to sweep in front of him and block his exit, golden eyes fiery. "I know you want her, but she's mine, so back off before I make you. Leave her alone. She is not yours to have so stop trying."
