Southpaw had been gone from sunclan for over a moon now, never showing back up when she and her family had been expected to return from the regime. SunClan was beginning to grow worried, and Littlestar had order the clan be on alert for any sign of the missing family. Not that Southpaw knew any of that, nor that if she was found she wouldn't be allowed to return so freely to the regime. She saw SunClan as her home still, and what she needed right now was her best friend.
She crossed the border, still limping from her shoulder injury caused by Shule, finding and following his scent. Luckily he happened to be near the border, as she-cat came rushing out of the bushes "CARNAGEPANIC" she wailed, throwing herself at the tom and wrapping herself around him "I MISSED YOU SO MUCH" Cleaver
Today was a good day, this was a good week, honestly, it was just a good patch in the middle of a good life. His early life had been so rocky, but with Littlestar in charge and Valleystep at his side, Carnagepanic was finally happy, and nobody was trying to change that. It hadn't been perfect, or easy... he still hurt, thinking of his lost sibling; he had felt the emptiness when their bond was broken, but he still didn't know whose body it was that he had lost, and he was afraid to ask... but he was learning to forget. To spend his mind elsewhere. To enjoy dates.
Southpaw had been helping with that, but she was gone now too. He tried not to worry. She was probably happy and distracted down in the tunnels, not even thinking of him and how much she had worried the clan.
He was walking near the border when a sudden blur exploded from the bushes. Carnagepanic shrieked and fled but he was too slow and the intruder tackled him to the ground, yowling in his ear, and--- she missed him?
"Southpaw?" the calico tom, writhing in her grasp. "is-- is that you?"

Southpaw was now on top of Carnagepanic, looking down at him with puffy eyes and a uncharacteristically disheveled coat.
"Of course it's me, you silly goosey woosey" she replied, just being here with him enough to help calm her down some. She reached forward and pressed her nose to his, before nuzzling at the crook of his neck and holding on tightly like a kit might to a parental figure "I missed you so much. Shule is a big ugly meany, my mom died, and if it wasn't for Prince Ily I would have lost it" she pressed her head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart "I can't do this on my own any more. Won't you come back to the regime with me? Pretty Pretty please with cherries and chicken nuggets on top? You can even bring Valleyrose. Please? I just really need you right now"
Carnagepanic hesitated, but as his racing heart started to calm, he wrapped his paws around her and awkwardly rested his chin on the top of her head, mumbling an occasional "uh, there there." His head was still spinning from the whiplash of fear to relief to excitement that she was here. She was too close for him to see the state she was in, but she sounded so sad. "Your mom died? I'm.... I'm so sorry, Southpaw," he murmured, his throat thickening. "I.... my mom died recently too." It hurt to lose Lorelei, but not as much as losing his sibling. "That's.... it's...."
Wait, did she say she wanted him to join the Regime?

The white apprentice was cuddled in almost impossibly close position. Her tail wrapping around Carnagepanic as he spoke, not caring if it was proper at this exact moment. Right now she just wanted her best friend and that was all that mattered "That is just dreadful!!!" Southpaw gasped when Carnagepanic said that he had lost his mother as well "That just settles it best friend, you need me and I need you to" she clung to Carnagepanic like he was going to leave her
"It was awful Carnagepanic. Just awful. I wanted to talk to her and dad in the morning, to set up a meeting with my Prince...and...and..." she paused, trying to choke back a sob "I asked if I could sleep with them.. I made up some excuse, I think I said I had a nightmare but I don't really remember.... When I woke up, she didn't stir so I turned around and there was blood every where. She wouldn't wake up" Southpaw nuzzled her nose down deeper into the crook of his neck
"I'm not supposed to be here, but I had to see you" she pleaded "Last time I tried to come see my big brother, Shule got so angry with me. She told me all there terrible things about SunClan. Mommy was going to let us come back and visit you soon, but I don't think dad will.. If Shule finds out im here, she will yell at me again"
Best friend? If the circumstances were different, he would have been overjoyed, maybe even cried, but right now he could only manage a fleeting smile. Her story was... oh, it was horrible. He couldn't imagine it. All of that blood, from her own mother, while she slept right next to her. It made Carnagepanic sick.
He murmured sympathetic words in her ear as he cradled her close, becoming more comfortable by the minute. "I don't want you to get in trouble, Southpaw... Why don't I walk you back to the Regime? I---I can't come live with you, but I'll make sure you get home safe..." Did the clan know her mother died? Was he supposed to tell them? "Maybe... maybe Commander Shule will let you come up for a few nights, and... and we can collect some flowers for Unseenlights... she liked flowers, didn't she?" he tried weakly.

Southpaw sniffled, not ready to let go just yet "Please?" she begged
She knew it was futile but she had to try "I don't have any friends in the Regime, everyone there hates me and is mean to me. Well except for my Prince. He is wonderful!" but it was still awfully lonely there on her own. She had her prince, but no one that she could really talk to. No one to gossip with or to do their fur. Cats of the Regime didn't really seem to care what state their pelts were in, much less enjoy a good spa treatment the way she didn't "Mom... she never even got to meet him" but she reluctantly pulled away, looking dejected and defeated, far from the bubbly out going cat he had known her has.
Now that they had some distance Carnagepanic would be able to see her stained fur and tightly wrapped shoulder
"You don't understand, Shule won't let me come back. She said its dangerous" Southpaw looked rather sad "Do you think a sunflower would grow there...? Mom would have liked that" refereeing to the tradition of planting a sunflower over the body of the deceased
His heart ached for her, and he felt horrible for sending her back. But what else could he do? Her Commander wasn't wrong, their clan could be dangerous... he still remembered the explosion from a few moons ago, when Littlestar returned, the smoke and the chaos as they tried to find Valleyrose's mother, the warriors blocking the exits, the river of fire blazing around their paws. The territory they lived in was unstable, not to mention the cats that had brought them to the ceremony springs. Bloodycrow was gone now, but not all of his followers had left with him.
His mismatched eyes took her all in now, her eyes puffy and her coat ruined, her shoulder injured, and he knew he couldn't let her go so easily. She was lonely, just like him. Hadn't he been in her position before? First, he was sent alone to SpringClan, and when he was finally settling into the clan, he discovered his family had abandoned him, and SwiftClan moved on. He chased them, tried to fit in again, only to find Romulus was in danger; they tracked him down in SunClan, and this time he started fresh with his siblings by his side, but he still felt more alone than ever. He had to make friends on his own. And he did, he met Brightdawn and eventually he met Valleyrose and Southpaw, but it had been so hard.
"Okay, okay," Carnagepanic mumbled, his pulse racing again just at the thought of what he was going to do. "We'll go find a really big, really pretty sunflower for your mom. She'll love it. And then you can go meet your family and your prince and be with them... or... if you're really so sad there... you can come live with me." His voice became very tiny and high. "You can live here, in SunClan, and your Commander will never find you."

He had been wondering why Southpaw's scent was going in the direction of, well, away from the Regime. He had a suspicion he knew where she went and the direction her trail was leading, but there was only one way to find out. He followed it, every twist and weave that she did with his nose to the ground like a hound. Normally, he wouldn't follow her because that was just plain creepy. But, if Commander Shule caught her out of the territory and near Sunclan... let's just say Ilius didn't have a good feeling about that. He didn't want Southpaw to get in trouble for any reason.
He crouched and made sure he was downwind as the sound of voices reached his ears. One of them was certainly Southpaw but the regime mercenary did not recognize the other, he stalked forward and peeked out of his hiding place. It was some Sunclan tom. His heart dropped. He stood tall and moved forward, appraising the other cat curiously but without hostility. Whoever was a friend of Southpaw was a friend of Ilius Jaeger. "You might want to hide your scent better, even if its just for social visits," He was a little ashamed to admit that he had followed the white she-cat all the way from home.

"Prince Illy!!" came Southpaw's loud gasp, as her head spun to see him standing over them.
She hadn't expected him to follow her all the way out here, especially after she had crossed over the SunClan border. She wove through his front paws with a warm purr "What are you doing here? I thought you were afraid of SunClan??" but that would have to wait "Prince Illy, this is Carnagepanic. My bestest friend. Caranagepanic, this is my sweet Prince Illius"

He purred at her affectionate gesture and a warm feeling spread through him. He was nervous she wouldn't be happy to see him, but he was thrilled thrilled meet one of her sunclan friends. Best friend at that! "It is nice to meet you, I am Ilius Jaeger." He followed up her nicknamed introduction with his full name. He did take pride in his family name, after all. He enjoyed her nickname even if it still made him blush a bit. "Carnagepanic is an... interesting name." He would never quite get used to clan names, they did not roll of his tongue as easy. Southpaw was a nice name though.

Southpaw wove in between Ilius' legs, peeking out from underneath his chest and gazing up at Carnagepanic "We were going to go get a sunflower for my momma... They buried her in the regime, but I think she would like a sunflower to... A little something to remind her of home"
His heart was still pounding from his risky offer when the new cat emerged and Southpaw's act disappeared entirely. He blinked a few times, feeling so lost. Was she actually upset about what happened? Was she putting on a brave face now, or pretend to cry before?
"... Nice to meet you, Prince Ilius Jaeger," he trilled nervously, dipping his head in greeting to the tom. His title was unfamiliar to the warrior, but the naming structure wasn't; his name had once been split in the same way, before the clans had merged it. "Uh, yeah, we were just going to go and find some flowers. Um, look," his voice lowered and he felt a surge of guilt, "I... I don't know you, and it's really risky to bring someone new onto SunClan territory. You could get in a lot of trouble. I don't think you should come with us. If--- if that's okay."

Southpaw looked between them, before looking up at Illius with big eyes "I don't wanna get you in trouble... Shule is already going to be mad at me, and if she gets mad at you to she may not let me see you" she had already lost her mom, and her dad had been distant "I don't wanna be alone" she pouted, before standing up and giving him a little lick on his nose "How about you wait at the border? We won't be long, and I have my best friend with me. He won't let anything happen" uniqcrim

He eyed Carnagepanic for a moment before nodding, if Southpaw trusted him then he would trust her. "I'll be at the border, don't take too long," He glanced at the other cat again. Shule had spies everywhere but he wasn't about to say that in front of a Sunclan cat he hardly knew. "and be safe," He smiled at her. She was cute when she was excited.
"It was nice meeting you, Carnagepanic. Please, just call me Ilius." With that, he gave Southpaw and affectionate smile and headed in the direction of the border.

Southpaw waited for Illius to leave before her tail drooped "Thank you for not telling him that i'm sad..." she replied, making her way over to Carnagepanic's side "Last time I cried when he was around it made him sad to. Which made me even more sad... So when he is around I try to be brave for him" she let her pelt brush her friend's side "He tries so hard to understand, but I don't think he quite understands why I don't like the regime"
"We won't be long! Bye, Ilius," Carnagepanic called after him, waving his tail. He seemed like a polite young cat that genuinely cared for Southpaw; that was good enough to make the warrior happy too.
"It's nice of you to be brave," he told her, "but he's only sad because he cares about you too, and he wants you to be happy!" He steered her back toward SunClan land, glad to be leaving the tunnels behind on their journey. "Look, Southpaw... I want you to be happy too. Um. Are you sure being in the Regime will make you happy?"

Southpaw looked down at the ground "No, I'm not sure that I want to stay in the regime"
The little white she-cat followed along, still limping slightly as she kicked a small pebble out of the way "but right now that is where poppa and my brother is, and I can't just leave them behind" her tail was low almost sweeping the ground as they walked "Then there is my prince. I know he would come with me if I asked him to, but the Regime is his home. Wouldn't that be selfish of me?" She still remembered the time that he had followed her out into the open when she went sunbathing. He had been nervous the whole time, and that wasn't right either
The warrior was quiet. He didn't know how to answer her. What advice did he have to offer? He had followed his family from clan to clan without a second thought; he never wanted to be a part of SunClan, but when Fawnpaw was captured, they agreed they had no choice but to go fetch him. They were a team, they had to be together, and it was in SunClan they discovered their true abilities. But then they had left him again, slipped away one by one, and before he could follow, he felt their bond snap -- felt the fatal moment where his brother's body was no longer available to him, not because he had left the Enchanted Forest, but because he was gone. He would have reunited with his siblings to grieve if he didn't have Valleyrose to tie him to SunClan.
Was it selfish, to ask someone to leave their home? He didn't know. Maybe sometimes it was worth it.

Southpaw trailed at his side, deep in thought "No I suppose I haven't asked..."
The white apprentice had her gaze ahead, blue eyes glazed over slightly "But when I ask him, how will I know that hes not just saying what he thinks I want to hear? Prince Illius is so nice and kind He always puts me first, but I don't want him to give up his happiness for mine" this was the kind of talk she had been needing to have, asking the questions that she was to afraid to bring up with anyone but her best friend. He just always seemed to understand with judging her choices "I'm afraid to ask..."
