"You still don't understand" she was nearly quaking by now, "But yes we must get away from here... but the hunters become the hunted" she leaned onto foxbane, and heaviness now hanging over her that hadn't been present on their journey here "I don't fear death... but being unable to die and left in torment. My death at it's paws... that was nothing but a sweet release from the agony"
"Probably not, but that doesn't mean I won't keep my word, either." She murmured, holding Littlestar close. "You've seen how I am when I have my mind set, and I will destroy anything that dares to make you cry, no matter how long it takes, or what I have to do." Foxbane was utterly serious, which for the Priestess, might have been a terrifying prospect at the moment, as she did, in fact, know to what lengths the fox patterned feline would go through in order to get what she wanted. Foxbane would do anything. And right now, who knew if it would be enough. "You won't be stuck in a place like that. You will live the life you want to live, and have the afterlife you desire, and once we understand how to free the souls, so will they. It won't be eternity."

Her steps faltered, almost as if she had stumbled though the ground was flat. Before the High Priestess could speak, she was jerked forward onto the ground like a ragdoll by some invisible force. The air exited her lungs with a loud hiss as she hit the ground hard. Her claws slashed out only to meet with air, before she was slung another few feet and skidded across the ground
There wasn't much time to think and even less to act. It wasn't safe here was all that Foxbane knew, and she would not, could not, let harm come to her daughter, so she moved on pure instinct, a snarl rising up in her throat as she raced after Littlestar, lunging for her scruff and grasping on tightly, almost painfully so, with her teeth. She could figure out what was going on later. Priority one, get her daughter to safety.

Littlestar's head was still swimming, as Foxbane's teeth sank into her scruff. They hadn't taken more than a couple steps when they slammed into some invisible force. She groaned as she was slammed into the wall "put me down, your not going to get out of here that way" Even though Foxbane didn't undestand what was going on, it wasn't the first time Littlestar had faced this threat "You can't just run blindly through this or you are going to get us both killed"
"If I put you down, you'll go flying again." Foxbane protested. "I just have to follow the guide, right?" Well, that's theoretically how easy it should be, but things were probably not that simple, so for the moment, the ex-Priestess was left without a course of action. Well, beyond run and hope.

"Unfortunately our guide isn't going to be of much help here. Now put me down" she ordered firmly, even as she jerked suddenly in her mother's jaws. This time jerking both of them into yet another wall and slamming them hard "We are caught in the shifting maze. THe faster we are able to get through this, the faster we will stop getting jerked around" Taking advantage of the distraction she pulled herself free of her mother's jaws "It's the walls themselves that are pulling us, they are constantly shifting"
Foxbane's grip loosened on Littlestar right before the leader broke free, tail lashing with ill disguised nervousness. She didn't like this, or the fact that she didn't know what was going on, which, in the waking world was something that rarely happened. Even at her most powerless, she'd still had influence. Here, there was nothing to do except rely that her daughter knew what she was talking about. Which she didn't doubt, but also, she despised this feeling.

Littlestar took in a deep breath before taking up the lead "once you enter into this maze, the only way out is to go straight through it. The ground is going to shift under our feet, but we have to keep going in the same direction" she took a moment to feel the invisible wall in the darkness "The shifts are meant to disorient you and keep you walking back and forth until you tire from exhaustion" she was still sore from being slammed into the walls so many times, but it probably wouldn't be the last "The key is to keep your eyes locked onto a target and to keep going towards. See that light up ahead? That is our goal" the walls shifted again, but this time she used her paws to keep from slamming into it "what ever you do, don't go backwards"
She had no choice but to obey. So she focused on Littlestar and followed her steps instead, fighting the urge to glance around instead of keeping focused on her daughter and where she was going.

Littlestar kept her eyes focused on the light up ahead, walking firmly in a straight line. Each time the walls turned, she anticipated the movement and used her paws to keep herself from getting injured. She would occasionally stick out a paw to trace along the wall as the walked, until finally her paw reached only air. "There, its over"
She was most definitely relieved for that. "... Thanks. Where to now?" Honestly, what more was there to say? Foxbane hated this whole thing, she felt so useless, but she kept her mouth shut about it. Littlestar didn't need to hear her complaints, what they needed to do was go where ever they were meant to be going.

"Now we can follow the tether...." but something didn't feel right. It was almost like they were being watched. She wasn't sure how to tell Foxbane without revealing that she knew to whomever it was that was watching them that she knew "It will lead us back to our bodies, and once we are back in the material world we can start planning"
Nothing about this place felt right, and Foxbane had to force herself to take a deep breath to calm some of her nerves. It didn't shake the unsettling feeling though, or the sense they were still in danger. Something about Littlestar's hesitance also seemed off, but if she wasn't willing to voice it, then maybe now wasn't the time. "Lead the way."

Fortunaly their journey back to their bodies was uneventful, and the two of them were soon awake. Laying in the temple of the sun with the flame burning brightly over head "Something was following us..."
"Should I be surprised? You bringing someone along would pique the curiosity of anything at some point." Foxbane nodded slightly. It confirmed that feeling she had, though luckily they'd gotten back unscathed. "It seems we made it back safe though."

She shook her head "No that wasn't normal... but whatever it was, it can't hurt us now that we are awake" there was still worry in her voice and a lot of things left unsaid... but what was to happen next time they entered into the astral flame?
"Mm. Based on the things that have happened recently, that doesn't quite appear to be true, does it? If they're all connected." Foxbane answered, watching the flames. "Better to be cautious just in case."

She let out a little puff of air "Your probably right..." but she wasn't sure what was to be done about it. "So you have seen it for yourself now. Any ideas?" She knew the lost souls were being kept in the mist, but how to get to them was another story entirely.
"Could be something to run by Autumngossamer. If she could curse a god, she might have a method to get through." Foxbane suggested. "At least, it couldn't hurt."
