Ferventprayer had been trying to put it off, but she couldn't deny the truth any longer. She refused to go and see her biological mother, but she had confided in her sister Resilientbloom whom had once been a Janus and had it confirmed. She should have been happy, after all it is what she and Teneberousrequium had been wanting. It was her duty as a SunClan she-cat, and a blessing from the Sun God... So why didn't she have the rush of positivity that other she-cat described when finding out they were pregnant? Why didn't she want to scream and shout the big announcement from the mountain tops? In the back of her mind she knew why.... but struggled to admit it even to herself.
Still her long fur would only be able to hide it for so long, and Teneberousrequium had the right to know the truth... But how to tell him? Jetclaw
Tenebrousrequiem had noticed Ferventprayer was pulling away from him. Had he pushed too hard?
He'd given up on trying to persuade her to stop caring for Bloodycrow. But he couldn't bear to see her continue to blame herself.
But perhaps he just had to accept it, as much as it made his stomach churn. Or at least stop pushing the issue, just support her and remind her... gently that it wasn't her fault.
Except Tenebrousrequiem had never been able to really do gently in his life. But for Ferventprayer he'd do his best.
But first he had to reassure her and get back on her good side, so he'd gone out and gone for a good long hunt coming back with several prey options for Ferventprayer to take her fill.
He returned to camp laden down with his catches, managing to acquire an admittedly scrawny rabbit, a mouse, a shrew and a sparrow. Plenty of options for Ferventprayer to take her pick.
Now to just find his mate, he looked around camp for any sign of her. Eyes light up when he spotted her, padding over. racer

The tortoiseshell she-cat, had begun her descent down the path, when her mate emerged through the tunnels carrying some fresh kill. He was always working so hard to impress her, so hard to prove his love for her. It only made her feel that much more guilty, that she couldn't let go of the past and simply just be in the moment with him. He looked at her like she was the enter of his universe, and she wanted to see him in the same way but her mind was still clouded with grief, guilt, and pain. It wasn't fair to Tenerbrousrequium...
She let her nose brush against his cheeks "I know you just came back, but I was hoping we could go for a walk? There is something I wanted to talk to you about" she looked like she was on the verge of tears, and just barely managing to keep them contained
Worry immediately stabbed into Tenebrousrequiem's heart, he nodded immediately setting aside the fresh kill in a shadowed spot, someone else could pick it up for now. If this discussion was so serious that Ferventprayer was on the verge of tears already, it meant it was a 'drop everything we need to talk' sort of thing.
Once his mouth was free he responded quickly. "Of course," He said coming up beside her brushing against her, "Lead the way, where you go, I'll go." He assured her.

Ferventprayer took in a deep breath, leading the way out of camp while trying to avoid drawing any unneeded attention to themselves. She let her long fur brush up against his as the walked, her tail finding his for comfort and gently wrapping around it. Even with all her misgivings, she found herself needing his touch just to get through the walk itself
When they were far enough away not to be overheard she stopped burying her nose in his fur, unable to hold it in any longer. The words coming out in a long stream, that would make him wonder how she was getting any air "I just went and saw Resilientbloom, and I.. well I asked to meet with her. I hadn't been feeling well, I'm fine.. I just... I didn't want to go to Littlestar, so I thought my sister could work... and now I have lost my train of thought. I can't focus, and now I'm rambling on and I still haven't even managed to get to the point yet. Tenerbrousrequium, we are going to be parents. I don't think I'm ready yet, and I just don't know how to tell you. It's such bad timing and I...II...." her voice trailing off when she realized she had just told him, in probably the most undignifie manner possible
Tenebrousrequiem stiffened when she said she'd gone to REsilientbloom and that she hadn't been feeling well. He opened his mouth stepping close to her about to go into a worried litany of questions and ask her if she was okay, what had Resilientbloom said, did she need anything?
Then she revealed that they were going to be parents and he froze up.
"Parents?" HE echoed. "Us?" His eyes widened. That meant... his blood would flow to more kits.
He hadn't even given much thought about his family... hadn't seen any of them in so long.
Would he tell any of them? Would the kits be okay being descended from his dysfunctional bloodline with a grandmother like Frozenfire... if his mother was still alive, he wasn't certain.
But he pushed all that aside because his worries about his bloodline, about how his family might react if they were all still alive was irrelevant because Ferventprayer was looking at him with big worried eyes.
He took a breath then let it out. "I admit... I don't know if I'm father material, but I will do my best for our kits." He said softly. "Are you... are you happy?" He asked uncertainly, given how she'd delivered the news.

She had messed this up... big time...
At least that was the thought in the front of her mind. She had meant to tell him more gently, but the time for gentle was well past now. Worry ate away at her, as she waited on his response. She could see the flicker of something that she couldn't make sense of in his demeanor, but at least he hadn't turned tail and fled "I should be" she replied her gaze falling "It's what we both wanted, but Teneberourequium...I'm so scared" she was shaking "I don't know how to be a mother, I never had a mother... not really. What if I am a terrible mom? What if all the kits grow up hating me? or I mess up and hurt one of them?" it wasn't that being pregnant made her unhappy, it was was simple the nerves and fear of the unknown getting the best of her "What if I turn out like Bloodystar?"
Tenebrousrequiem scoffed. "You won't end up like Bloodystar! You couldn't unless you went up to another queen, stole her kits out from under her and claimed them as your own!"
He took a breath then let it out. "You are a very kind cat, you were kind to me and you'll teach our kits to be kind. You'll be as gentle and kind as you always are, and so steadfastly loyal, and love them so fiercely that anything tries to hurt them or make them cry you'll make it pay. OR you'll have me to do that." He said lightly.
"The most important thing to be a parent is... love. And I love you, and I know you love me, do you love these kits?" He asked.

"Of course" she answered almost immediately
"but what if love isn't enough?" her nose buried into his fur with a quiet sob "I loved my father and I thought he love me to, but that wasn't enough to stop him from hurting me in the end" she closed her eyes, taking in her mate's earthy scent as she tried to calm herself, but once the sobs started it was hard to reign them back in "I don't ever want to hurt them like that, but I don't want a good parent is suppose to be like. I thought Bloodystar was a good father... If I was that wrong about him, how can I know if I'm being a good mother?"
Tenebrousrequiem sighed. "I don't know what it takes to be a good parent." He admitted. "But we can learn!" He said straightening up. "There's some good parents in SunClan, we can ask them for advice. We'll learn! It's like learning how to be a warrior we'll find a mentor and then we'll get trained on parenting!" He said.
"We've both had apprentices, it's like that I imagine except a little more intensive."

She had never thought of it that way. A parenting mentor?
The whole idea seemed rather ridiculous, but she it was just strange enough that it was able to pull her out of her sobs. It was something to look forward to, a shred of hope "I have never heard of such a thing before, who would we even ask?"
Tenebrousrequiem hesitated. "Ah well, that's because I just thought of it." He admitted sitting down. "But it makes sense, and um.... well Mountainsound's raised kits. We could go to her for advice."
After she'd initially spooked him when the dead rose while in MoonClan, he had a lot more respect for the former medicine cat. (And he was very glad she hadn't actually been undead because as tough as he'd liked to think he was back then, he was certain she'd have made crowfood of him)
Plus Mountainsound was a good neutral party. Not connected to Ferventprayers family, and a cat with much knowledge.

"Mountainsound?" she paused, looking down at her paws, but her eyes slowly lifting
It was well known that the old healer was wise and had great character. Even cats in other clans knew her name, and respected her greatly. She was always the first to stand up for what was right, and even better she could go see her for help with the pregnancy without having to face Littlestar. Truly it did seem like a good solution to her fears, even i she couldn't quite shake them
She bit her lip nervously, but nodded in agreement
"Can we go see her tonight? I'm just really nervous, and even though my sister knew what was wrong she couldn't tell me how many kits there were or if they were healthy" Honeystorm
