The morning was silent.
Hushedmask had grown accustomed to the grief that sprung like weeds in his chest, choking out the little bit of life he had built their in the past. His black and white coat was scrappy from little grooming. He just wasn't himself anymore. Not that he was really a cat of worth before. At least, that is what he thought of himself. The depressed exhale that he let escape his lips made the grass around his muzzle quiver. Was it always going to feel this way? He knew better than to think like that, but sometimes you can't see past the despair.
He shook his head as if it could clear away the dark clouds around his thoughts before rising to continue his patrol. Fallclan had finally become familiar to him, so that was good. It gave him some comfort to know he had a home again. If that's what he needed to focus on to ease the ache, then so be it. He would pour every breath into Fallclan.
It wasn't until rather recently that Acorncharm felt like she could finally fall back into her old routines. The kits that she had been looking after were just recently made apprentices, and while there was a small hole in her heart at their growth, she was also proud. They had pulled her out of her sorrow, so it was the least that she could do to be happy for them, despite the void of loss around her. There had also been another that helped her find a bit of happiness again, but she pushed the thoughts of Rivergale to the back of her mind as she continued her hunt.
When was the last time she had added something new to her collection? She couldn't quite remember, but the search kept her mind occupied at least. So, she continued on, her nose to the ground as she looked for any interesting bugs or rocks to bring back to her collection, completely unaware of Hushedmask not too far away.

Hushedmask was also preoccupied with staring at the ground in self-pity so he didn't notice Acorncharm until he was practically trampling over her. "Ah, sorry." He apologized in a quiet, but still flustered voice.
Of course, Acorncharm had also failed to notice Hushedmask until the moment that she was falling to the ground. She wasn't sure who had actually run into who, so she quickly shook her head at the tom's apology. "No, no! I'm sorry! It was my fault!" Or, at least, she believed it was her fault. Her nose had been glued to the ground, after all, and now her entire self was there. This was definitely what she got for not paying attention to anything.

He shook his head at her insisting it was her fault. There was no way when he wasn't looking where he was going. The large tom swallowed in attempt to regain his composure before giving her a glance over. "Are you alright?" His voice was barely audible, which was common for the usually quiet warrior.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine," she said, lifting her head to actually look at Hushedmask. "The ground is quite comfortable sometimes." It was a poor excuse, but since she was still on the ground she had wanted to make some sort of reasoning for it. Maybe she should stand up. It was another moment before she actually followed through on the moment, but once she was on her paws again she focused her gaze on the tom.
Acorncharm had not really been paying too much attention to those around her lately, so she wasn't quite sure who he actually was. Had she seen him around before? She really couldn't remember. The way that she tilted her head and the curiosity in her gaze fully gave away what was on her mind.

Hushedmask sat back in relief for a second before becoming equally confused at her gaze. Why did she look so curious? Did he have something on his face? He did eat a bird earlier... OH. Could it be that she didn't know who he was? Ah, that would probably make more sense. His jaw opened to explain and then closed out of fear that he could be suspecting wrong and might offend her.
Great. She made things awkward, didn't she? Or did her silent question offend him in some way? "I-um," she didn't know what to say, so she decided to just drop the question before it could be voiced. She would just have to figure out who he was later then. Instead, in her current state, only one question was able to make it out of her mouth.
