Dappledglacier waited on her mate outside of camp. Their kits were apprentices, and well on their way to entering into marriage. She had thought about it for a while now, but perhaps it was time to consider adding onto their family. She had fulfilled her obligation to Emberbrand and could have divorced him if she so choose, but he had proved to be a good mate, and an even better father. Fighting alongside her for her children to get higher status, even going as far as to speak to Wintrystar herself. She found it quite appealing, even though she didn't love him. Cleaver
Emberbrand had never expected his life to play out like this. He had set his sights high: to become the deputy and eventual leader of the clan, to guide them wisely with nine lives and a lifetime of wisdom and deceit. His marriage was an obstacle and that day he had made promises he honestly did not care about fulfilling, but as time went on he found his spirit broken piece by piece. He did not love her, but he felt a sense of loyalty now, and he didn't want to break his promise to support her; he liked having her around, and he liked the little family they had built. Domesticity was destroying him, but he liked it, he liked this simple and comfortable life more than his aspirations.
Stretching his legs, the dark-and-ginger tom headed out of the camp to join his mate, reflecting on how much his life had changed for the better. It was chaotic to be sure, his children were often fighting and they still needed to find Limepaw a mate, but it was a good life. "Dappleglacier," he greeted warmly, touching his nose ever so briefly to her ear. He was fond of her, even if it wasn't love.

"There you are" she greeted warmly, letting her long dappled fur brush against his "I thought perhaps we could take a walk. I had something I would like to discuss with you" they were both rather private cats, making sure to keep up appearances in front of the other cats of the clan. They both played their parts well, at at times... it almost made her wonder if Emberbrand had truly fallen for her. They way her would speak to her even when no one else was around to hear it, the simple gestures of kindness he carried out when it was far above expectations. She couldn't allow herself to dally on that path of thinking for to long. Their marriage was arranged, the terms laid out clearly from the first moment... There was to be no love between them
She led the way out of camp, until they were far enough away from the others that they could speak without fear of being heard "Well... I supposed I should jut come on out and say what is on my mind. I would like to have another litter of kits with you" her footsteps coming slowly to a stop to watch his reaction "Our first litter is strong, healthy, and well on their way to high status within the clan. Now that they are almost ready to be married, it seems like the prime time to begin discussions of the future. You have fulfilled your obligations to me as my husband and their father, so the choice is yours. If you wish to be free of me, I will not force you to continue forward with out current arrangement. However, I wanted to make my own feelings clear. I would like to continue our marriage" Cleaver
A younger Emberbrand never would have anticipated how much he enjoyed this marriage. No other cats had caught his eye, and he had learned to work well with Dappledglacier. He had even pitched in more with raising their kittens than he had originally offered. During their early moons, he had been a little distant, interacting only as far as he must, but he had started to appreciate them much more once they were older. Another litter of kits felt like the natural decision when they had done so well the first time around. The younger Emberbrand didn't want to start a family and saw it only as a necessity, and the easiest path to the high status he deserved; these days, he rarely even remembered that he had lied his way into being considered a pureblood. He had served his clan loyally enough he deserved their respect, and for so long he was confident the truth would never come out.
So when she offered him more kits, there was not even a flicker of hesitance in his face, only satisfaction. "I would like to continue as well," he agreed easily, "and with more kits as well. You've been a good mate to me, and the clan is always in need of more strong warriors." He did not care to amend their agreement, but he did have one question left that hadn't left his mind in a while. "Now that your brother has passed on, what are your intentions for his kits?" Silverfury and Dottymask had left behind a litter in the nursery, but neither cat was around to raise them.

Dappledglacier dipped her head, a slow smile spreading across her face in delight at his answer. She had hoped that would be the case, but also didn't want him to feel trapped into anything if he wanted to leave. After all, she wanted her mate dedicated to her and her kits and forcing someone into that wasn't the way to achieve that.
However his next question caught her off guard "I would like to take them in, should Wintrystar see fit. We have already proven that we are good parents, and those kits are of my blood. It is a big decision to make though. How would you feel about adopting them?"
Emberbrand considered. Her brother had been a valuable warrior for the clan, but he could be harsh and overly strict, in Emberbrand's opinion. Dottymask was much the same, and they had both died so recently... it was sure to have impacted their children. It would be a hard adjustment, and he had never adopted cats like that before. But they were family, and Dappledglacier had already proven herself a good mother.
"Okay," he decided, lifting his chin and nodding to her. "We can ask Wintrystar and adopt them if she permits. But we'll raise them as our own kits. If they don't remember who their true parents are, all the better."

(Want to time skip to where they go to see Wintry? paoCleaver) Dappledglacier nodded "We should speak with her tonight, so that she will know of our intentions"
Wintrystar, like most evenings after the sun had disappeared, was lounging on the edge of her ledge. It was her den but really nothing more than a ledge sticking out from the cavern’s walls. From here, she watched over the clearing as cats mingled and students practiced. The sovereign lazily flicked her tail backs bd forth over the edge as her eyes took in the scenes below her.

"Wintrystar" Dappledglacied greeted warmly, dipping her head respectfully "Do you have a moment to speak with me and Emberbrand? We can come back later if you are busy, but the matter is a little time sensitive" she paused giving the leader time to answer. She was a little nervous about their request, her tail subconsciously reaching for Emberbrands as they stood under her icy gaze
Emberbrand had been here before, and he was more relaxed for it; he offered Wintrystar a tiny nod of greeting as he allowed his mate to do the talking. He liked Wintrystar and he trusted she wasn't going to stand in their way of adopting their family members.
“Very well.” She motioned for them to finish the climb up to her den as she disappeared over the side of it and deeper onto the ledge. It’d offer them some privacy to speak on matters that way. The sovereign waited until they were seated before her once more before addressing them again. “What is you wished to speak of?” Wintrystar rested her cold gaze upon them, mint greens curiously tinted as to what they could possibly ask for. Ember brand had already gotten his wish of a new mentor for one fo their kits and that was moons ago now. None of their kits had been paired as of recently by arranged marriage so that was jog a possibility. Was it for a marriage contract? There was still one of their children unmarried so it was a possibility.
