Cloudcloud was dying.
Her fluffy body wriggled and fought desperately through the heavy mud around her. She was up to her nose in it, bright white fur stained dark brown. Her nursery aid lifestyle didn't prepare her for death by sinkhole or mud puddle or whatever this was. She couldn't swim in water, let alone this.
"Help me!" She called out. "Please somebo-" Her words gurgled out as the disgusting substance overtook her. She was suffocating. She couldn't open her eyes. If no one came soon, she'd be done for.

It was chance that he happened to be walking nearby in that moment. Hushedmask had finally taken a step out of the camp after recovering from his injuries when the sound of someone crying for help caught his attention. His ears shot up as he tried to pinpoint where it was coming from before it disappeared. Veins pulsing with alarm, the large tom sprinted in the direction he thought the sound was coming from and was shocked to see a shape struggling under what looked like a mud puddle. Hushedmask took a few steps back, remembering the ground falling away beneath him when he was at.. that place. He shook his head in desperation, knowing that if he didn't act quick, that this cat, or thing, was going to suffocate. "Hold on, I've got you."
Lunging forward, he grabbed a mouthful of fur and mud and began to pull with all the strength he could muster.

The sound of another cat's voice barely reached her, muffled as it was with mud in her ears, but hearing it sent a shock of hope through her. She wouldn't allow herself to think of the possibility that she was hearing things that weren't really there. Luckily, that wasn't the case as Cloudcloud felt teeth sink into her scruff. His efforts to pull her out were working better than she could have hoped, and even better once she started kicking her hind legs to propel her further up. Soon enough, she was tugged completely free of the puddle.
Flopping onto her stomach in a heaving mess, Cloudcloud looked nothing like her usual self. All of her fluffy white fur stuck flat to her body and was completely covered in the brown substance. It smelled awful, but it was the last thing on the nursery aid's mind. "Th- Thank you," she coughed. Though her eyelids were caked in mud, she could still make out the image of Hushedmask. How lucky it was for her that he happened to be nearby. She almost died. The realization made her body quake even though she was safe now. "You saved my life."
