The silver tom rarely stayed in camp. He had never exactly liked the way everyone seemed to...just understand. Everyone always did, the way they chattered and gossiped, the way the others laughed and joked around, the way everything just made him feel so....so....
He found his mind drifting as he wandered through the ochre forest, every branch and bramble marking the paths and routines he took every day, the softness of his paws barely making a sound, even on the carpet of dried leaves, branches and mosses that seemed to line the ground like a second skin. The birds were singing today. Their songs were a little different. The notes sounded like a separate pattern from the ones he heard the day before. A crow was calling. Was he calling for his home? Or to signal the sun setting beneath the leaves, lighting the world in gold?
So absorbed in the world around him, Silverspectre didn't seem to realize there was a bit of a drop–it had been moons since he had been to this part of the territory, rather far from camp–and with a slip of his paw, he found himself letting out a sharp yelp as he tumbled down the hill, only saved by the thick pelt his father blessed him with.

Hauntedmelody had been out and about as she usually was. Looking for feathers and bugs as gifts for her clan mates. Feathers for those she liked, bugs for those who.... were less than her favorites. She was almost tempted to leave a bug for Hystericstar and see the leaders reaction. His lack of reaction was also so amusing to her. The white pelted she-cat had been humming softly to herself as she carefully lifted a piece from a rotting log with her dainty paw, smiling at the gruesome display of creepy crawlies that scuttled about. However, her ears quickly twitched at the sudden rustle of undergrowth and a loud yelp that could only come from another cat. Dropping the log, the mysterious she-cat slowly made her way to the source of the sound.
When she saw the sight of one of her clan mates sprawled out on the ground, she couldn’t help but laugh and hum out loud as she made her way over to him. “To me way-aye, blow the man down... a pretty young damsel I chanced for to meet”

Ouch. He could feel a bruise forming, and ugh, what happened to cats always landing on their feet? Certainly, he wasn't the right kind of cat for that. Stumbling to his paws, a paw rubbing the top of his head, he glanced up to the sound of...a shanty? Was that was it was called? It was certainly some kind of song. He wasn't really certain whether she was making fun of him or not, but he gave her a sheepish expression, embarrassed that she had caught him in a moment like this.
Shaking his fur, he still felt the ache in his shoulder that he had landed on, limping forward a couple of steps to get a steady footing once more. He gave her a look, a silent 'what are you doing down here?'

Hauntedmelody sat down, seeing that he was fine and needed no help getting up. She wrapped her silky tail around her paws graceful as her golden eyes glinted mischievously. She tilted her head at the question in his eyes before Hauntedmelody let out a small chuckle.
"Me?" She purred with a twitch of her whiskers. "I'm here looking for gifts, of course. What brings you tumbling down below?"

Huh, so the other cat understood him; he knew his face had always been an open book, but even then, he could only count a couple of cats–mostly his family–who understood what he wanted to say. Gifts, huh? He glanced around, wondering what exactly these 'gifts' were; when she asked about his little tumble. A snort left his mouth, his own whiskers twitching at his accident. He glanced up, towards the top of the small hill he had rolled off of, pointedly at the sudden drop, before turning to Hauntedmelody once again, a sound that sounded like an embarrassed laugh leaving his mouth. He hadn't been careful, that was clear.
He gave a look around, gesturing towards the berry bushes that he had thankfully, not rolled into. Were those the kind of gifts she was looking for?

The plump white she-cat let out a small chuckle as she shook her head.
“Oh no.” She purred. “Not the berries. My gifts are particular. I give them to those I like, and to those... less then likable.” Hauntedmelody had no problem admitting it. She enjoyed being blunt. It allowed others to know what she was thinking without hiding behind rose colored glasses.
“My gifts are more like... feathers for those I enjoy. Bugs for those I do not.”

A purr of amusement came from Silverspectre’s throat, the only sound that had left him since they had met. Hauntingmelody was funny, he decided. She seemed nice. He couldn’t say the same about everyone else, but the tom had grown up like this. He was used to it. Regardless, he gave her a tilt of his head, before his gaze looked up to the trees, listening to the birdsong that had continued despite their conversation and the tumble he had.
His tail gave a gesture, a silent question. Did she need help? Surely, he knew a couple of places that could be good for feathers; he had spotted a magpie’s nest nearby. He blinked at the she-cat, before gesturing down the slope, asking her to follow along.
