He didn't understand why his sister traded one set of rules for another. Frankly, there were plenty of things Hywel didn't understand about his sister. Like why in the world she'd want to settle in the city, or why she was so utterly obsessed with exactly the same concept of eternal life as those in the north were, or why she'd leave one cultish group and trade it for another. It had been dangerous back home, but how was this anything different?
It wasn't like he cared about it all. Foreign affairs, whatever that was. He was only here to watch over the cat he had practically raised, and more often than not, he found himself just wandering the city. At least he had gotten the hang of the layout by now, he thought with a certain air of amusement as he passed through the district, eyes flickering from one cat to another. Well, at least things were never boring. It seemed like there was another event, whatever it was. A fight? A party? He had no idea. Passing by another cat, he felt his shoulder bump into another's, and while he might've said something in annoyance, it didn't seem to bother him this time.

The bangal she cat was lost in thought not paying attention to where she was going when she bumped into someone. Orion had been thinking of either "finding" food in the city or risk sneaking into the forest to nab some fresh prey. True that would mean she would risk running into another cat or patrol or something and start a fight but wasn't like that everywhere? The feeling of brushing up against someone brought the tall cat back from the depths of her mind. "Oh hey sorry about that." Orion recognized the scent of League on him but couldn't place the name to the face. "I uh hope I didn't b-b-booother you...uhhhhhhh..." Not only was she caught off guard by her random stuttering that liked to pop up at the most inconvenient times but felt like a babbling bumbling band of baboons. And she still couldn't remember his name. Internally she wished someone would just take her out and put her out of her intense embarrassing misery.
With the city cats, Hywel could never really guess what their reactions were. Some of them would immediately lash out, clawing him in the shoulder for an offense such as bumping into them, others would have a couple of angry words to say, and even more would simply flee, but a half-stuttered apology made Hywel look up. Brow furrowed as he stared at the she-cat, he wasn't sure whether to be amused at her embarrassment or concerned.
"Don't worry about it," he shrugged it off. He didn't seem to know this cat's name either. "Sorry, I don't think we've met yet, have we?"

"Probably not, I don't talk too much or to too m-many people. But I'm Orion. I tend to just do my thing like hunt or scavenge for things so I'm not in camp a whole lot. Sorry but I can't say I know your name either." Her ears flicked a bit but the bengal she cat felt herself becoming less ruffled up.

Ah, another cat out of place, Hywel's whiskers twitched in amusement. "I'm Hywel," he spoke, the word holding an accent different from those who lived by here, "I suppose I'm not much of a fighter either; I suppose that's rather unusual in a group like this, no?" It seemed like city cats were always ready to go to blows over any scrap of food or for any minor offense. "I don't suppose you know where those famed big parties are around here?"
Post by ashestoashes on Jun 9, 2021 17:57:31 GMT -5
Hywel? He was an interesting cat for sure, but found his accent to be nice. Different but nice in a way she found to be cool. While she was surprised he admitted freely he was not a fighter she also found his honesty intriguing. Not many were like that in Primal Instinct, honest and non aggressive for the most part. Huh. Orion thought hard on where these parties were. "While I haven't been to one I have heard they usually o-o-occur over in that direction. If you want I can accompany you i-i-in case someone wishes to start something. Lately the rouges and loners have had a bad habit of t-t-trying to ambush League cats. More of an annoyance than anyth-th-thing." Damn this accursed stutter of hers!

Company? Some company certainly would be nice, he thought, even if she wasn’t exactly his type. No, he certainly preferred those of his own gender, and as lonely as he may seem, a newcomer to a city that seemed to shun its outsiders, he was always the type to be the life of a party.
“Sounds good,” he gave her a grin, “you don’t seem like the party type at all though; you sure you’re comfortable going to one of these? I don’t want to force you to babysit me; that’s what my sister would call it.”
Post by ashestoashes on Jun 17, 2021 13:15:56 GMT -5
"I mean I have nothing better to d-d-do anyway. Plus I've never been to one and am curious what these parties are like. So I'll happily ac-c-company you to uh this event." The bengal she cat stretched and shook her body looking ready to go. "With that I'm r-r-ready to go when you are."

He nodded with a smile. Hywel was never the best at accomodating others; he was more of a live for himself kind of cat when it came to things other than Rhiannon. Still, he could entertain another for at least a little while. "So Orion," he prompted, "were you born in the city or did you come from afar like I did?"
Post by ashestoashes on Jun 22, 2021 20:56:41 GMT -5
"Me? I am from the city. Born just south of h-h-here to some rouge like most of us born around here. I mean you see what you get but at least it's st-st-straight forward. The two legs usually don't bother us but some are rather d-d-dangerous to be around. Don't know much else life but from here. Well that and now The L-l-league. What was it like where you are from?"
A simple life, he thought, to be born in such a place, to live their whole lives in the walls of the city. He hadn't known what life was like outside of the loch either, and yet he found himself here, strangely...adapting, to most anything other than the searing hot pavement on the sunniest days, in which he simply chose to go elsewhere, either in some far off ledge with shade or into the surrounding greenery that always encroached the city.
"I came from up north," he spoke with a chuckle, "far away from the clans, I suppose. There's not much city up there, mostly...stretching plains and heathers, and the large clear lakes that peppered the uneven ground, "there were the occasional village here and there but even then, there were mostly only wild animals out there, and the great sky and forests."

Orion was thoughtful," That sounds really pretty a-a-actually. I got to admit though it is hard for me to try to imagine what a p-p-place would look like with no buildings around. I have never let the city limits myself so a place with no towers or m-m-monsters or lights seems weird to me. But lakes sound like fun to swim in..." While she wasn't one for swimming when it got hot in the city it would be a dream to take a dip in water that didn't have salt in it. City life was rough and not very beautiful to live in unless you knew where to go. "If you don't mind me asking w-w-why did you leave?"

Hywel's expression was thoughtful, but the moment she asked for the reason of his departure, it darkened. "Let's just say we weren't welcomed there all the time," he replied quietly, "there are places beautiful beyond our imagination, but only because all the darkness and ugliness isn't around them, but in the hearts of the cats that live there."
Perhaps Primal Instinct wasn't the right place to speak of this; the cats around here had a darkness within them too, but the darkness was driven by a need for survival, by a need for the next day to come. The cats up north, they had everything they wanted and still found themselves hungry for more.
He hated the subject of his home, and he rarely shared more than necessary to those he had yet to trust, even ones as kind as Orion seemed. "Why don't you try out the forest?" he asked with a tilt of his head, "I'm sure there were plenty around here; I passed by plenty of them too."

"Being born within the city the forest seems...different. Not bad but just different. There w-w-wasn't a need or desire for me to check it out since I had most of my r-r-resources from within the city. However as time goes by more cats have come in like P-P-Primal Instinct for example. So it's made resources rather on the thin side. Still I was able to survive it and decided to join The League. I-I-I mean there are so many benefits to living within the group. And it's been well even if there is some s-s-struggles here and there. However if I was asked to go in...I would. It's just not my area of expertise. You could say I am a c-c-city slicker." Orion noticed the change in conversation but didn't bring that up allowing the change to happen. Most cats within The League were closed in so this wasn't a surprise to her by any means.

"City slicker, huh?" he grinned. He could understand that, staying put where they were born. He would've done the same had their situation been different; even now, the highlands felt like what true home was, even if he could never go back. "I guess having others around you makes things a little less complicated. You get your job done and that's all that matters. Don't need to fend for yourself much, huh?"
A chuckle left his mouth. "So what advice would a city slicker give to a country cat like me?" he smirked.
Post by ashestoashes on Jul 13, 2021 20:34:35 GMT -5
"Hmmm," the hunter pondered for a moment before giving a response, "N-n-not surprising but almost everyone out here is for themselves and does things for their own self i-i-interest. Not because they are nice. It's a r-r-rarity in the city since it has a tendency to get you killed but there are some cats that are like that. A-a-anyway though I would probably add that the alley ways can be both a blessing and a curse around here. Some are d-d-dead ends that can spell trouble for you but some are gate ways to h-h-heaven when you need to make a great escape. It's important to know these alleyways for your own survival... c-c-could be your downfall or your second ch-ch-chance to live." Orion chuckled," There is probably m-m-more to add but that's all I can think of for the t-t-time being. What advice would a country cat like you g-g-give to a city slicker like me?" This was probably the longest conversation the she cat had had in a long time.

He nodded, eyes scanning the walls of the alleys they moved through. That made sense; he still had to learn the layout of the damn place. "What advice...well, if you see a tree with the pretty white flowers in a small bunches, the flowers smell sweet and they taste the same, but the leaves will kill you," he snorted, "Elder trees are tricky like that."
Hywel smiled. "How about showing me a couple of those alleyway death traps or escape routes to me?"

Orion made a mental note to not forget what Hywel taught her before thinking quietly for a moment. "Yeah I can show you. Unfortunately I don't have a m-m-map of them anymore, but with practice you'll be able to memorize them of course. Maps are just so much m-m-more useful. The first one is actually up ahead to the r-r-right of us. It is a common dead end that most cats usually find themselves in. Not the worse place to have a dead end but still t-t-terrible. The next one is..." And with that she explained and showed him around the dead end marks around them. She was actually having a good time. The hunter could even say she truly liked how Hywel was so far. After all he didn't judge her for her stutter so with that in mind he was already a cool enough guy.

He nodded at her words, meandered through their little tour as they explored the city. It was fun, actually, to see it all as if led by a tour guide. She was good too, surely there was no information as detailed as Orion's observations. "You know, that's probably the only tour I've been given around this town," he chuckled, jokes and humour alight on his tongue, unaware of how Orion was feeling. He gave her a smile. "Thanks for giving me the rundown."
Post by ashestoashes on Jul 28, 2021 23:55:49 GMT -5
"Oh yes it's n-n-not a problem." Orion felt her face grow warm from the compliment which was not something she was used to getting. "Sooo uh are w-w-we near the party you were w-w-wanting to check out? Parties are not things I know w-w-well or know where they are at but if I know w-w-what place they reside I can find them."
